The Swarm (2023)
Review after 3 Episodes
I´ve read the book a while ago. It´s entertaining with a good story and some interesting characters. What stood out the most was how well research all the scientific background was. The book would get a 7/10.
Now the series: The Cast or the Casting i should say is just bad. It´s not even close to the book. But i can look past that if a character is played well. But this is a hit or miss. Some are very well played like Dr. Katherina Lehmann (by Barbara Sukowa) or Samantha Crowe (by Sharon Duncan-Brewster).
Others have no "charismatic acting" at all like Dr. Sigur Johanson (by Alexander Karim), Tina Lund (Krista Kosonen) and worst off all Leon Anawak (by Joshua Odjick) who is just staring in the distance all the time...oh wait these three are the main cast of the series...that´s too bad, and should tell you a lot about the quality of this series.
Sadly it´s just another dull lackluster European book-adaptation which will fade away very fast.
Even the author of the Book Frank Schätzing left mid-production and is speaking negatively about the result. And i can see why...
Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
It has been an honor!!
Thank you so much! Thank you Vince and Peter and all people involved in this series. Thank you for taking your time to tell this story! I fear this was one of the last gems on the television horizon and a masterclass in storytelling through dialog and the cinematic composition! Thank you Mr. Odenkirk for your incredible passion and dedication in portraying Saul Goodman/ Jimmy McGill! You can all be proud in what you've achieved with this serie!
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
It could have been much better...
What bothers me the most is the fact, that so many dialogs just described exactly what was happening on screen so that even a 4 year old could understand why people do this and that. That´s just poor writing and directing when you need to explain absolutely everything. How are you as an audience supposed to get intrigued if the director doesn't use the medium he´s working with.
Dune (2021)
12 years ago i made a mistake...
I did not watch Avatar in cinemas...watching it later it was just mediocre at best. Hearing from people who watched on the big screen i always regretted my decision.
So this time i went because of some high expectation (Also i personally had some nostalgic reasons because i played Dune 2000 as a kid.) .
And my expectation was not only matched but surpassed big time by this EPIC adaptation on so many levels. I was speechless...
So my advice is simple: Go watch it on the big screen!
Snowpiercer (2020)
The overall rating does not match!
This show is not sensational but it is entertaining! I watched both season in about a week. Compared to other dystopien series it´s holding up well.
Story: 8/10
Setdesign: 9/10
Acting: 7/10
Acting of Alison Wright (Ruth. Wardell): 10/10.
