Infidel (2019)
So many 10 and 1 Stars...
Going through the reviews, you see a lot of 10 stars and a lot of 1 or 2 stars. So you might think the this is a thought provoking movie and a manifestation of how polarized we are.
IT IS NOT THAT.
This is a low budget rushed-in production with few modest action scenes and a conflicting and hallow plot. How hallow? In one scene Covid is mentioned but through the whole movie you don't see a single person wearing a mask. (obviously was added post-production). But most of all, the plot doesn't make sense.
Although there are a few surprisingly fresh dialogues but those few are not enough to balance the cliche and half-hatched rest of the movie.
SO WHY SO MANY 10 STARS?
I think its because no matter how weak the movie is, it is extremely appeasing to those who have already made (and closed) their minds and believe in their own righteousness and the absolute evil. Its their attempt to support their "truth" as much as they can.
And as for the 1 and 2 stars, they just try to balance the bias.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
The jury is still out...
Trekkies are loyal and patient. But they're not stupid.
After watching the frustrating first two seasons of this show, I couldn't help thinking: damn, they're going to pull another "LOST" on us.
But, the story line was just part of the frustration and it was amplified by many other issues that is the core of many negative review here.
Frankly, it would have been fine with me if they had cancelled the show, hoping that by cancelling the show, it would let Gene Roddenberry's soul rest in peace. .
HOWEVER,
After two seasons of nonsensical story line mayhem, it looks like this show FINALLY may have found a story line that it can meaningfully develop and hopefully make sense at some point. Just have to skip the first two seasons and consider it a fresh new start..
Lets hope that producers are smart enough not to think that making a good Star Trek series is just based on a dry recipe of contemporary social issues with a pinch of original series reminiscence/characters.
It has to make sense, be faithful to the Star Trek concepts, expand the viewer imagination and have some consistency and continuity.
This review was written after watching the third episode of season 3 and it is still a bit early to say they've finally got it.
Lets keep out fingers crossed.
The 2nd (2020)
how the hell this gets any stars?!!
Written and played by stunts while the director was asleep..
William (2019)
Not for "Star Wars" fans. But if you liked "The Man from Earth" this is for you..
A very interesting movie..
I'm not much into anthropology. But if does touch some anthropological discussions in a very subtle but thought provoking way.
The director laid out the premise very well but then had to squeeze the rest with a 100 minute time limitation in mind while not forgetting to add some relational issues into the mix.
As for the ending, it would have probably be different if the story was set in any other country than US. Can you imagine why??
Another Life (2019)
Seriously Netflix..!!
The dumbest Netflix production ever.. its not just stupid, it assumes you are a moron and makes you feel like that after watching it.
It looks like a 12 year old wrote the screen play (and not any 12 year old, the dumbest 12 year old who can hold a pen or type).
If you watched this you should ask for a refund from Netflix.
The Promise (2016)
Decent Cinematography.. most everything else like an "express made to fit" Hong Kong Suit..
I am yet to see someone make a movie (or even a book) with an objective, or at least, "not paid for" take on this subject. The second decade of 20th century was a very busy and most controversial one. This subject is something that still hangs over us. This really need a closure. But Closure comes through steps.. or through research and untainted productions.. As long as there are people who have the money and the will to spend $90 Mil. for some nice scenery and a slight appeasement of their own survival guilt, Hollywood would be ready to take the money and deliver. Anyways, if you have an extra couple of hours to spare and a coupon (or free streaming) then watch it. But please don't use the events in the movie to impress people with your knowledge in history..
