So, everything BUT the story is excellent... which is weird. The animation is beautiful. The voice acting is wonderful. Lin Manuel Miranda's music is sensational. If my kids wanted to watch this 100 times, i wouldn't mind listening to it while i read a magazine or did dishes or something. But the characters and story aren't very engaging. Neither of my kids got sucked in, and i definitely did it. Its a simple story and moves real slow. Jokes are repetitive. I'm writing this review while watching it. Cuz its kinda boring. I'm pretty bored. Oh wait, another song, hold on... .... Oh, that was beautiful! Yeah, songs are amazing. Watch the movie once and then just listen to soundtrack. But that soundtrack... is sensational.

This movie is like eating popcorn with no butter or salt or other flavors; its not gonna hurt you, but why bother? A lot of folks are harping on the obvious anti-oil stance. Its not the anti-oil part that bothers me at all, its the obvious part. This movie has the subtlety and charm of a mid-90s "family life" educational film. Every plot point is explicitly explained in the dialogue, and we all know that explaining the jokes makes them funnier. This movie is completely devoid of charm, wit, charisma, character, depth, nuance, and joy. There were several times when several characters nearly died and not a single time did i care either way.

Seriously, just watch Ferngully.

Bigfoot Family has all the subtlety and charm of a mid 90s "family life" educational special. Its the family movie equivalent of a comedian that explains every joke after they tell it.

This movie is just awful. Like, not offensive or anything. Theres nothing in there i would not want my kids to see. Its just bad. It feels like somebody fed the twenty most popular kids movies on Netflix to a computer and asked an algorithm to write a script. Then it was edited and retold by my five year old. And then the voice acting was done by whoever was available at the local community college. Cliche tropes is one thing, but this one is done with no charm, character, emotion, nothing. The story is somehow both standard cliche tropes AND makes no sense. The pacing is slow so there is no excitement, the characters are flat so you really dont care about anything one way or another.

Its just plain bad.
