Civil War (2024)
7/10
A shallows look at War, with great set pieces
21 April 2024
If you're going because you want to find out more of the fictional Civil War, I have some bad news for you. It's a shame the Civil War this movie is titled is basically used as a backdrop for a roasters movie, from the eyes of War Journalists, It unfortunately doesn't go beyond that.

Alex Garland does do a good job, with building tension, the scene with Jesse Plemons is terrifying, got me gripping my scene for its entire length. He also does a great job in showing some parallels between Kirsten Dunst and Cailey Spainneys characters.

Great performances all around, Kirsten Dunst and Cailey Spainney have good chemistry and I enjoyed the journey they characters went through and they're development throughout. Although I feel Kirsten Dunst got the short end of the stick.

The script helps you immerse yourself in this world in subtle ways, like when they are buying gas, and Kirsten Dunst says they'll give them 300 dollars and the guy says, thatll get you a sandwich, and she says "300 Canadian Dollars", fun little way of world building.

So although there's a shallow look at the so called Civil War, I still had a good time.

Madame Web has been dethroned
19 April 2024
In my review for Child of Fire I said it felt like a 2 hour trailer for this movie. I don't know how this managed to be even more dull and boring than that one.

The script is so bad, the small amount of dialogue it has is insufferable, the pacing is so bad, it makes an already boring movie even worse. There's a part of the movie that is, montage, small bit of normal scene, more montage, another small bit of normal scene. It's hard to get through.

The relationship between the main team is almost nonexistent. You made a whole movie about them meeting, and in the second movie, they still barely talk with each other. In the final battle one of them tells another, "If I must die" and the other says "together" and it's genuinely the first time they spoke with each other.

The exposition is done so horribly. There's literally a scene where they go around a table and each of them does a summary of their origin story, as it's shown in flashbacks. And when most of them are done, one of them actually says "What about you? You haven't told your story".

Final battle has some nice sequences, but it's filled with just overdramatised moments of sacrifice and death, because these characters are basically cardboard.

There are some cool shots, some with the robot Jimmy, but that's all they are, shots that look cool. 0 significance, because we barely see him in the damn movie. And to finish the fight comes that Rebellion that was shown for like 5 minutes in the first movie? Yeah, the guy with the face paint. They just appear. No idea who called them, idk how they knew there was a fight, they just show up. Idk if I missed the part where they were called, because by then I was half asleep.

Then obviously there's set up for the third movie. Yeah, I was committed to the 2 parts, I don't have another one of these in me.

"I am a God"
5 April 2024
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is disappointing, I know why the legacy characters were in the movie, unfortunately it was for the wrong reasons. Cuz it's for ticket sales and not story related, specially Bill Murray.

What that does is make the good characters established in Afterlife mostly background characters. A good example of this is Finn Wolfhard is just there to say he's old now, and for a side quest, if you take him out, the movie is exactly the same. Which is a shame, cuz they set something up and just forgot it completely, McKenna Grace is good, but her character isn't very likeable.

Script was weak, not interesting, not even funny, the "villain" is bland story wise, character wise and even visually. There are some good things, Kumail Nanjiani is great here, Paul Rudd as well.

The ending tried to be heartfelt, but because I was not invested in the character and their relationships, they didn't hit much. It's a shame, Afterlife was really fun and enjoyable. This felt like cash grab.

This is what a BLOCKBUSTER should be
2 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously find yourself a friend that believes in you and hyped you up like Stilgar does to Paul.

Having rewatched the part 1 just yesterday, Part 2 is a step up of everything it's predecessor had to offer.

Timothee Chalamet is brilliant, he seriously stepped up, his portrayal from a guy who just wants to fight for his people to embracing his messiah destiny is perfect,Zendaya is absolutely phenomenal her character is the most interesting in the whole movie.

Rebecca Ferguson is Masterful she becomes terrifying, Javier Bardem is a fantastic hyphenated and Austin Butler as the maniacal Feyd-Rautha is amazing, I just wish we could have seen more from him.

Hans Zimmer simply can't miss, his score his simply amazing. It's brings this space epic into a whole new bigger scale than the first, I'm no Lisan Al-Gaib, but I see another Academy Award in his future.

Greig Frasers visuals are fantastic, this movie is gorgeous some of the images deserve their own portrait, it just does the most to tell a story without anyone saying anything.

Visual Effects in a much bigger scale and they nailed it, I already loved them in the first, but I don't know how they actually outdid themselves with this one.

Dennis Villenueve has written himself in history books with this space epic, this is what it should feel going into the theatre for a blockbuster. Love the choices he made, there's this parallel I noticed and adored, in the beggining of the movie when Paul and his mother arrive in Fremen city they are surrounded by Fremen who hate thee since he killed one of their own, but as he accepts he is Lisan Al-Gaib he's walking through the Fremen who love him and worship him. It was beautiful.

The hype is real, go watch this movie, support it, we want more of this, we NEED more of this.

Teachers need 200% wage raise
28 February 2024
The teachers lounge follows the story of a 7th grade teacher at a school that's going through a theft problem. And after this teacher decides to investigate this on her own, it's all downhill from there.

This movie is anxiety inducing, and it's crazy, cuz it's not this crazy mega thriller, they're in a high school the whole time. And it just does such a great job of putting you in the shoes of the main character, you're with her every step of the way. Leonie Benesch is fantastic as the main character, she portrays the internal conflict she has in the situations so well, you just want to give her a hug.

Another thing that helps raise your anxiety levels is the score, simple yet super effective. The movie looks great and I really liked how the director was able to portray this situation slowly getting worse and worse.

Me personally I would've smacked that woman that stole my money, and not only lied about it, but made my look like the villain but also used her son as a weapon against me.

Don't forget the tissues
25 February 2024
I've been waiting to watch this for a while and the hype is certainly real. Actually I don't think this had the hype it deserves. This movie not getting more push for award season is just as tragic as the movie itself.

Every performance is absolutely outstanding, Zac Efron gives the best performance in his career and his evolution as an actor from High School musical to this, has been an honour to see. Jeremy Allen White shows that he can be just as good as a wrestler than he is a cook. Zac Efron SHOULD have been a nominee for Best Actor and the biggest snub in this whole thing.

The story moves so well, and the dynamic between all the brothers is fantastic, which is why what comes after is so tragic and heartbreaking, the script takes care of everyone and gives everyone in that family it's time to shine.

Sean Durkin does a great job, it's an incredibly directed movie that showcases a great balance between the heart warming and heart breaking.

Yeah, what more can I say? The movie looks great, the ending the beautifully shot, the score truly carries the great moments. GO WATCH IT!!!

Perfect Days (2023)
7/10
Perfect days captures the beauty of the day to day life.
24 February 2024
I think my expectations were too high here, and unfortunately I didn't get completely invested almost half way in. After that the movie just got better and better with a killer ending.

Our lead man is a public toilet cleaner, very meticulous at his job, very hard working and very quiet. I mean REALLY quiet you don't hear a full sentence from him until you're half way through the movie. Nonetheless he's a great character, that just gets more interesting the more you spend with him, so it was great to watch him slowly get out of his shell.

I just wish there wasn't so much time before we got know who this person really is, after we meet his niece, we get into some great conversations about how everyone lives in different worlds and we get into some really great topics and a great view about the beauty of life and how to enjoy everyday.

The use of music is great, and it contributes to a great ending, probably the best shots of the movie as we see our main character on his way to work for the last time.

Movie is full of heart with great moments, I just wished I could have connected more to this character.

I was scared this was going to happen
18 February 2024
When watching the trailers I was scared they were gonna focus more on the music than on the man, and that's exactly what happens.

I feel like they remained só surface level on Bob Marley, the man, and focused more on what his music brought. And I think that's what happens when family is heavily involved in the movie, because they will want to play safe, and that's what this movie does, with the character of Bob Marley.

The screenplay also didn't feel like a final draft, some of the dialogue felt repetitive, and some of it, quite cringy. And for negatives that's what I have.

Kingsley Ben-Adir and Lashana Lynch absolutely kill it, they are fantastic and an early Oscar contender performances. Another thing I was scared was the accents, because at times they can go to over the top and make it feel like a parody, but they weren't they nailed it.

The music was also emaculate, if you're a fan of his music, you'll love what they did, and how they paid their respects.

I feel like for the right audience this definitely will be amazing. It's a cool movie, fun time. I just wish we could learn more about Bob Marley, not just his music.

This movie is a Masterpiece 10/10
17 February 2024
Except for the villain, like he's so terribly written, not ever written, cuz he was underwritten. 9/10.

Talking about the villain, why did it look and sound like his voice was dubbed over, his mouth was doing something and the words didn't even match. Ok 8/10.

But Jesus, the editing. I've seen YouTube videos with better editing, felt like everything was happening at the same time, but nothing was happening. Let's just give it a 7/10.

Man, that script though, even a movie no matter how bad it is, I almost never end it thinking I can do a better job, but I 100% think I could write a better script. Why is Cassandra Webb so unlikable? It's poorly established that she hates her mom, but when she goes to Peru, all of a sudden she forgives her? We suppose to feel something? And when did her character go from "I will send you to your parents they can't take care of you" to "They are family, they are my daughters". Jesus, ok 6/10 final score.

She's also never once addressed as "Madame" in the whole movie, waste of title. 5/10.

The future where they are wearing the suits looks way more interesting, I would've rather watched that movie. 4/10 for false advertisement, making us believe those suits would have been in the movie way more.

WAIT!!! What do you mean the iconic line "He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders just before she died" ISN'T EVEN IN THE MOVIE... DAMN THIS MOVIE 0/10.

Alright 1/10 cuz the ending was kinda cute in a cheesy way.

Barbie after finding out she has to pay rent, with no qualifications
3 February 2024
This movie is absolutely fantastic, hilarious from beggining to end, Tony McNamara has crafted one of the funniest screenplays of the decade so far.

Robbie Ryan's cinematography is fantastic, it's definitely the most gorgeous movie I saw from 2023 easily. Every frame is a portrait, every shot is purposeful, and the use of Color to portray this world is amazing.

This is Emma Stones best performance her portrayal of Bella Baxter's evolution from toddler to adult is just amazing, her loss of innocence, how she learns to take care of herself, even if by not the best means. Mark Ruffalo is hilarious and Willem Dafoe is sincere.

Yorgos Lanthimos has crafted one of the best movies of the past decade, and I'm so glad I got to see it in theatres. Can't wait to see what he does next.

I think I need a shower
20 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Movie industry: "I think we've explored all the ways to show the horrible things about World War II and the Holocaust"

Jonathan Glazer: "Hold my Beer"

The movie starts innocently enough, as a family is enjoying their time near a river, then doing their mundane house work, as they guide their blindfolded dad to his birthday Surprise, then the background starts to slowly paint the picture.

You see a fleet of airplanes in the air, then, you see the gates of Auschwitz, then you begin to hear the shots and people scream in the background, and it clicks.

They never show what's going on, but you know it's there, it's continuous during the day and night. And as you begin to think, how can they live like this. It shows that, they enjoy it, and that they are actually Nazis and horrible people.

The oldest son wants to be the commander of Auschwitz when he grows up, and the youngest son, shows normality as he hears Jews punished.

The movie makes you hear the horror happening while make you watch this family gloat how they've built a great home for themselves, and how they have a heater because the winter is too cold.

Haunting.

"Who abandoned Snoopy in the Vestibule"
23 December 2023
Im a massive, massive fan of Bradley Cooper, he's part of some of my favorite movies of all time and now as a director he's showing to be quite a force as well, with his first movie A Star is born being fantastic.

Maestro is a biopic more about the man and less about the artist, and I think it works in its favour. Seeing the relationship between Lenny and Felicia is fascinating.

Bradley cooper disappears in this role and I think he's becoming better and better as an actor and I think directing is helping with that

Carey Mullingan is a force here, I love every minute she's on screen. The last scene with Lenny and Felicia is tragic but BEAUTIFULLY shot.

I'm seeing a lot of hate towards this film and Bradley Cooper online and I honestly don't understand, I think this movie, as much as I don't think it's FANTASTIC. I think it's beautifully directed and the 2 leads are phenomenal, and I think it deserves at least some of the buzz it's getting.

Feel like I just watched a 2 hour trailer for Part 2, and it didn't even get my hyped for it.
22 December 2023
There's not a lot to like here really, the movie looks great, which isn't a surprise since that is Zack Snyders bread and butter, the plot twist at the end was interesting, would have been better if it was built up better, and that goes to the my biggest issue with this movie.

All the characters are just cardboard cut outs, besides Kora and a bit of Gunnar, every character is just there. They go to their planet, get their introduction and after that they are just background characters. So if they had done more character work the plot twist would have actually hit, the death that was played with so much dramatic effect had NOTHING going for it, because the character was in the movie 5 minutes. There's a character introduced, in the first act, we never see him again, until the end and that's just a shot, something like, hey remember him? He exists.

The action sequences aren't that interesting as well, and that goes to my second biggest issue with his movie, why so much slow motion? Like, I know Zack Snyder loves slow motion like Tarantino loves feet shots, but Jesus he uses slow mo like a 10 year old who just found out what it is. If he took away all the unnecessary slow mo, there is a solid 10 extra minutes he could have used to actually make a better story or flesh out some of these characters.

Story is boring and gets repetitive after a while, there are so many good ideas in there as well, but they aren't developed properly, that's why this feels more like a rip off of Star Wars or Seven Samurai, instead of feeling like it was inspired by.

There are so many plans for a Universe around this, movies, shows, comic books, even Video Games, and if they do go forward at least they can do those things knows it's quite hard to do worse than this introduction.

"And now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds"
22 July 2023
A Masterpiece in every sense of the word, the editing and masterful score kept me invested and engaged during the whole 180 minutes.

The sound kept me on my toes, and the performances are so DAMN good. Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr. And Matt Damon show that they are absolute elite performers. Alden Ehrenreich was the surprise package, fantastic everytime he was on screen.

The trinity test sequence is one of the best movie scenes this century, my favorite of the year.

Nolan's best movie since Inception and if he doesn't win the Best Director Oscar for this, I'm afraid he will never win it, and I personally thing that would be a tragedy.

Pure Fun!
21 July 2023
Barbie is a movie about Barbie having an existential crisis! Yeah, that's actually the movie. And it's GREAT

All the Barbies in barbieland, believe that they helped woman and young girls be whatever they want to be and empowered them, but Margot Robbie's Barbie finds out that's not true, she completely looses it.

Margot Robbie is fantastic and both sides of the spectrum, the stereotypical Barbie and portraying the existential crisis she is one. But at this point what can't Margot Robbie do, she's fantastic

Ryan Gosling is the real MVP, he puts in a performance of a life time. The "Ken off"... "Ken War"?... "War of Ken's"? Whatever! That whole sequence is amazing, from the song, to the choreography. Ryan Goslings comedic timing is impeccable, and I love the journey he embarks in, and his ending, to finding out he doesn't live for Barbie, he is his own "Ken"

The production design is absolutely fantastic, every single detail is looked after, the costumes are beautiful everything in Barbieland is so colourful and so pretty to look at.

There comes a disconnect when they reach the real world, that is a necessary evil. I say that because I didn't like many of the sequences there, but I thought every was necessary for the rest of the movie to work.

Not every joke lands, but that's what happens when you take risks, the movie is hilarious nonetheless.

It's a fantastic time and my only regret is that I didn't find a pink shirt to wear to the movie.
