Saw X (2023)
Hilarious
Funniest horror movie I've ever watched. The scene when they kidnap the cab driver "where are we going?" "To hell" 🤣🤣 then Gabriela getting smashed in the face by a public bathroom stall door and pepper sprayed with *her own* pepper spray? So funny!!! The scammers at the end thinking they were one step ahead of Jigsaw just to land in the *actual* trap? Ironic!
The acting was decent and the plot felt like the plot of a Saw movie, but the execution was absolutely hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud for at least the first 45 minutes. Once everything gets underway it gets more serious, but half the traps were only so-so. Specifically, the eye trap seemed too easy (I've broken a finger and didn't realize it was broken before), and the brain surgery trap unrealistic. It would be impossible to do without causing SEVERE, irreversible brain damage. Other than that, a good watch. I gave it a 9 because it was just SO FUNNY.
Death on the Nile (2022)
Almost good but not quite
I'm not sure where the problem lies (direction, script or acting) but the solution to the first murder was very obvious.
I also do not care for Mr. Poirot's backstory, as it is pure fabrication on the filmmakers' part. Nowhere in Agatha Christie's books can you find a single mention of this Katherine.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus (2022)
To the ones complaining it's not complicated enough
Pokemon is and has always been made to include Nintendo's target demographic: children. This is not a typical RPG, this is an introduction to RPGs using Pokemon. Stop having unrealistic expectations from a children's game and go play an RPG geared towards young adults or adults if that's your complaint. End rant.
Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
The characters are spot on
As a fan of the game and of Riot in general, I'm really happy with how some (if not most) of the character traits implemented in game also shine on-screen. The animation is stunning. The voice acting is great. The villain is captivating. Good watch so far, can't wait to see the rest.
Anne Boleyn (2021)
I'm just wondering
Why instead of taking the actual history out of "historical fiction" didn't they do the same thing as Bridgerton and create a story that isn't based in our traditional history but in an alternate world where the main character could tell us HER story, rather than the story of a white girl that's been told 100 times before. I'd be much more interested in that.
WandaVision (2021)
Stopped 10 mins in
If I wanted to watch something like this, I'd go watch I love Lucy.
This Is Us: Forty: Part One (2020)
Okay.
The episode was just okay. It felt like it dragged on sometimes, some stuff that needed to be addressed was, but overall it felt a little rough, like they had to rewrite (they most likely did). It's my least favourite season premiere but the episode was okay overall.
Kinda wish they hadn't ended it the way they did, someone coming back from the dead, again (remember when Nicky was supposed to be dead?), is dangerously toeing the line into Soap Opera territory.
Roswell, New Mexico (2019)
a round of applause for the cast!
I was very young when the first Roswell aired. I enjoyed the concept of the show, but somehow Liz and Max always rubbed me the wrong way in that one, and I ended up staying for Michael, Alex, Isobel and Maria.
This version fixed that within the first 15 minutes! I LOVE the new cast. The chemistry between Liz and Max doesn't feel forced at all!
Enola Holmes (2020)
Meh
The movie felt to me like it couldn't decide what to focus on. The characters were pretty good but the story itself was pretty much unwatchable. I would recommend it to an easily distracted child, considering it feels like that's who wrote the script.
All 4 stars are for the acting. Even the side characters were well cast.
This Is Us: Strangers: Part Two (2020)
Intense
As usual, the reveals were perfectly executed and hit home, but I didn't cry for one simple reason: Randall and Kevin's massive fight distracted me from anything else that had happened this episode.
Grey's Anatomy (2005)
Do yourself a favour...
And stop watching after Sandra Oh leaves. It becomes mediocre at best.
Lady and the Tramp (2019)
Excellent modern adaptation
In my opinion, Disney was able to find a near perfect balance between beloved scenes and content from the original outdated film, and new or modernized content they added.
Disney was able to change what needed changing, while giving us the feeling of the original, and the content they added to the story felt like a natural extension of it.
I really enjoyed it and will be watching it again.
Tall Girl (2019)
Most of the movie was a 6-7 but the end
How is it okay that she would end up with any of the male characters in this movie? The guy she chooses in the end manipulated her the entire movie and the exchange student ended up being an a-hole.
Disappointed that they had to see her squared off with someone so badly that they wrote her this ending.
Don't let your daughters watch this, bad example of what's okay in a relationship.
Grey's Anatomy: My Shot (2019)
They ruined Bailey for me
Over the course of the last few seasons, in my opinion, the character of Miranda Bailey was absolutely butchered. She was an amazing, strong, lovable character even though she was a bit rough on the edges. They made her turn petty and vindictive, and made me hate a character that was once one of my absolute favorites. Her insinuating that she was never close to Meredith, or that Meredith named her kid Bailey for any other reason than to honor her is like a slap in the face. Again, just my opinion.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Refreshing take on the superhero genre
As a DC and Marvel fan, I've seen a lot of superhero movies and tv shows, most of which have the same basic plot line: hero discovers powers, learns to control them, saves the world. Although still a bit predictable, this show has some of the most interesting characters that I've seen in a long time. In my opinion, the characters alone are worth the 10 episode binge. It also has an amazing soundtrack (I found myself singing along during certain scenes) and the overall style of the show is different (in a good way!) as well.
