God of War: Ragnarök (2022)
I feel complete
This is one for the books. I've been playing god of war since its inception and this is the most satisfying installment in the series by far and that's saying a lot. The journey Kratos has took over 8 games defies description but I will do my best to give it justice. This man has became a God by slaughtering the Pantheon. You sympathesize with Kratos, knowing he's justified in all his actions. Sure, they're out of anger and malice but that ill-will is well deserved. Then we have the Norse version of the games and I'm taken aback by this much more reserved and wise protagonist. His redemption arch sets a bar I don't think another game will top for a long time. To watch him become a father and a fully-realized God is a sight to see. Anyone who has a Playstation I urge you this is a series that cannot be missed.
The Bear (2022)
Well done
This show is easily the most accurate portrayal of working in a kitchen I've ever seen. I was a chef for years and can tell the writers really get the whole vibe down.
Severance (2022)
It's a slow burn but boy what a pay-off
The premise is there's a company that installs a chip into it's employees brain that separates their consciousness outside of work and in so when they leave they have no recollection of what happens there and vica versa. It's very well written and the cast delivers superbly. If you're on the fence give it a shot.
We Own This City (2022)
Spiritual successor to The Wire
It's a slow burn, getting better and better. They capture the issues of modern policing without being preachy, just laying the truth bare. The casting is great, using a lot of familiar faces from The Wire and the writing is excellent. This is Jon Bernthal's best work in my opinion. He plays a veteran Baltimore cop so convincingly. If you like cop dramas, don't miss this one.
Atlanta: The Big Payback (2022)
Garbage
The first 2 seasons were amazing and had me excited for the end. Now, I'm not even sure if I want to bother continuing it. 2 out of 4 episodes so far are just short stories with no bearing on the main characters. Just more white guilt nonsense. It's like the writers wanted to do a social commentary and couldn't figure out a way to relate it to the main cast so they just hamfisted this bs.
Doom (2016)
Everything I wanted from a DOOM reboot and more
Somehow id found a way to stay faithful to the original series and use new technology to just blow us away. It's a fast paced fps filled with nonstop violence, blood and gore set on Mars and Hell itself. The graphics are stunning with a buttery smooth framerate. If you enjoyed the originals or just like mature fps games in general, do not miss this one.
Mr Inbetween (2018)
A superb ending to an amazing show
This has been a consistently interesting series but I think the ads were misleading, possibly on purpose. They reel you in with all the action but the truth is it doesn't happen that often during the show, which I think makes those moments that much more exciting. Without any spoilers, I can say it's a series about a hitman who's also a loving father and friend in his off time. It's only 3 seasons and I wish there were more because it's easily one of the best FX shows I've seen next to Snowfall, Fargo seasons 1-3 and Sons of Anarchy. There are episodes that will have you on the edge of your seat, hanging on every word, wondering what's going to happen next. Don't miss this one.
Your Honor (2020)
So far so good
While this isn't exactly groundbreaking, the show is very enjoyable so far. I'm 3 episodes in and the quality has not dropped at all. The first episode really pulls you in with a horrible accident that kicks off the story. I highly reccomend
Supermarket Sweep (2020)
Could barely make it through an episode
I love the original so I was excited to hear it was rebooted and then I watched it. What a disappointment. The host is not funny at all and keeps trying every 30 seconds. Nothing but obnoxious and corny jokes. This is a failed attempt at reviving what was a hit game show. If I could score it lower I would.
The Devil All the Time (2020)
Well worth the watch
I was reluctant going into this but my friend really wanted to watch it so I figured what the hell and boy I'm glad I did. I'm not too crazy about the cast but in my opinion they all gave their best performance yet, especially Bill Skarsgård, Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson. I definitely can see some Oscar nods coming for this one. If you like gritty movies and have Netflix check it out.
Wiedzmin 3: Dziki Gon (2015)
One hell of a ride
This game was my introduction to the Witcher, so I had no clue what to expect going in. Seeing my decisions in the game have long-reaching consequences is what really immersed me. It reminded me of Mass Effect in the way that no choice was ultimately good or bad. There's always a grey area just like in real life. The combat is tricky to get used to but once you level up a build that suits you, you're nearly unstoppable. Level requirements for quests were annoying at first but after a little bit, it's not a problem for the rest of the game. The writing for the quest lines and dialogue is where I think this game really outshines the rest. Voice-acting is bar-none. While it doesn't have a karma system per se, it does give you complete freedom in your choices to be the 2nd coming of Jesus, Satan himself, or anything in between. This is an RPG that can't be missed. Easy 10/10
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999)
20 years later and I'm still in stitches
I wasn't even going to bother writing a review until I noticed this got a 7.7. That's criminal. Trey Parker and Matt Stone really outdid themselves with this comedic masterpiece. All of the jokes hold up so well. I realize now after my thousandth watch that time has only aged it like a fine wine.
Ghost of Tsushima (2020)
I have a new found love for Japan
Jesus, where do I even begin with this gem. I'm just some dirty white boy from Northeast Philadelphia and I get giddy every time I turn this game on. I'm sitting here right now trying to think of a bad thing to say about it and I am just unable. To compare this to assassins creed would be blasphemy. It is so much more. If you're reading this right now trying to decide whether it's worth your hard-earned $60 I would say yes without a single doubt in my mind. The sword fighting in this game sets the bar so god damn high I'd love to see others compete.
God of War (2018)
Magnificent
I've had a lot of free time because of the shutdown so I went through the whole God of War series and literally just finished the last one. I'm watching the credits right now and I have to say thank you to everyone at Santa Monica Studio for this masterpiece. It exceeded every expectation I had going in. Everything from the gameplay to the narrative had me blown away. You guys have really outdone yourselves with this one. Bravo
