Warning: Spoilers
I like this movie better than Coming Home and equal to The Deer Hunter. The director really got the confusion of these vets and the times right. Nolte starts to build a fantasy life around Weld and Weld starts demanding no more guns in the middle of a gunfight to the death. I think she kind of represented the peace movement. Nolte was able to project tragic force and Richard Mazur showed what a truly under rated actor he was. Moriarity and Weld were good playing their kooky parts. Haid was excellent as the L. A. Hustler. Nolte's character was just plain tired of games. I love the quote about not ever being ordered around by morons again. Sounded just like every Vietnam vet I knew.

No Time to Watch
2 November 2022
Was this supposed to be a James Bond Movie or what? One of the worst attempts at movie making in history. Even Woody Allen's Casino Blowall or whatever the hell he made in 1966 didn't blow as bad as this. This waste of celluloid was depressing to watch. I will never watch another James bond as long as I live. Please for the love of humanity. In the name of all that which does not suck, burn every copy of this thing. Even The Man from Uncle was better than this. And I'm not talking about the move. I would rather watch a Gilligan's Island marathon than this. At least Gilligan's Island wasn't depressing.

By the time it finally ended I wanted to kill them for Benedict
14 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved a good con/heist caper flick, until I sat through this mess, and it almost put me off them. I swear, no one can ever talk about Burt Reynolds having a terminal case of the cutes again. I don't want to see another smirk for at least a month. Clooney needs to be a guest on Fernando's Hideaway on SNL. Okay. Yeah, I get it George. You're a wary wary handsome man. And yes, Julia Roberts is a celebrity, and they are infinitely more interesting than us mere mortals. We are honored just to watch them cavort. If there was a plot in the last 45 minutes of this thing, I couldn't stay awake to see what it was.

Dead beat Mom
14 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If the sexes were reversed, the plot would be simplified. The man would be in jail, and he would lose his CDL, so no Trucking would take place. But the scenery was nice. This was a very well-directed and acted film. The cinematography was excellent. I just can't get past the complete lack of accountability given to the protagonist just for having a vagina instead of a penis. This movie would never be made with a male lead because the audience would be throwing things at the screen. Other than that it's an okay film I'm trying desperately to come up with 600 characters for this review. Who decided this? Was this just arbitrary?

Making War for Fun and Profit
1 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know how he and junior escaped being tried in the Hague. This film should be shown as a double bill along with "War Dogs". Both Cheney and his little buddy W represent the complete and utter moral decay of the G O P before Trump. It's funny to look back now and remember those idiots were actually thinking of nominating yet another Bush or Romney. They would have if they thought they could get away with it. Kudos to the makers of this film as well as the actors, all of whom gave great performances. I just wish they had driven a stake through the old war criminal's old heart after its removal.

Come for Wahlberg Stay for John Goodman and Michael Kenneth Williams
25 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I almost tuned out when Wahlberg bet 80 grand after winning 3 consecutive hands at Blackjack. Beyond stupid right? Glad I didn't. For anyone who's had to work for a living and not been able to rely on parents if things went south, John Goodman's F-You speech alone makes this flick worth the price of admission. Michael Williams turns in a Samuel L. Jackson (Gold Standard) worthy performance as a shylock/ fixer.

For divorced losers who've paid alimony ... and love Strother Martin
11 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film is not great by any means but manages to capture small glimpses of a time and way of life. Paul Newman shines here as an unsophisticated cattleman who gets taken to school by crooks on all sides. Strother Martin is perfect as the chief crook.

Feeman to Pitt to Spacey, Triple play!!!
29 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The climactic desert scene should be shown in every film acting course. Perfection! This scene would have been sooo cornball if done by lessor film actors.

Nailed it!
17 July 2022
Simple, believable plot. Well written. Dialogue just one cut below the master, Elmore Leonard. I can't even begin to describe the acting. Everyone on board this thing was at least a notch above solid. If this movie had not been directed and acted as it were, it could have had that "Don Johnson Movie" feel to it. But it was, so it didn't.

Like a minstrel show but with poor white trash
13 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is disgusting. I kept hitting fast forward, hoping for something that never arrived. Watch the first 10 minutes, if you can, then watch the last 5 minutes, and then imagine every curse word repeated 1000 times, and you've seen this piece of Crapp olla. I was raised in a redneck beer joint. This was a disgusting caricature of poor southern people who work, but only earn about half what their northern counterparts make. Like Amos and Andy for rich Yankees.

Watchable, but Barely
22 June 2022
I thought this was going to show inner workings of the diamond trade. I got some adolescent male fantasy directed by a Michael Mann wannabe. The director makes this actually annoying and at times hard to watch. The whole Lady Rah thing is just stupid. They have petite women holing shotguns that would knock them on their posteriors should they discharge them.

The Color of Ham
4 May 2022
First of all, Paul Newman (as one would expect) and the female lead, MS. Mastrantonio, were well above par. Helen Shaver is very good. All the supporting players were great. It's the male lead that brings this thing down. Cruise acts like a complete buffoon. That stupid grin and ridiculous hair start to wear after about 10 minutes. His antics with the pool cue would not be tolerated anywhere that I've played pool. The story falls apart about 3/4 of the way through. Watch "The Hustler" instead.

Mickey Rourke Sleighs

Great acting all around. Especially the interaction between Rourke and Wolff. Rourk at sometimes is channeling Charles Bronson, but this is better writing than Bronson got most of the time. Story could have been slightly cornball if not for the acting and production values.

Should have been a documentary

Warning: Spoilers
This movie shows how our wonderful system works! For the last 50 years we have worked to destroy the nuclear family, and this movie demonstrates perfectly the way our government workers step in and mop up the remnants.

This bunch of Marxist idiots sit around and give their opinions on current events, and history that they know nothing about. It's scary that enough Americans watch this that it actually stays on air.

I hope Newton Minow was tuned in
28 January 2022
Someone once said that finishing a good book was like losing a good friend. Upon watching the last episode of Longmire, I felt that I had lost two good friends: Walt and Henry. That is in no way meant to diminish the acting of any of the other players. The acting here was stellar across the board! Ms. Sackhoff had some scenes that could have come off very syrupy if not done by a complete pro. L. D. Phillips was of course superb. His diction was spot on. Robert Taylor is a cross between Lee Majors and Harrison Ford in the looks department. He was perfect in this role.

Warning! Great acting ahead!
8 January 2022
This was one of the most well-acted films I've ever seen. And by that, I mean everyone from the top down. Not a false note was struck by anyone. Plot did require some minor suspension of disbelief in places, but I thought the tight directing and acting pulled it off. Enjoyed it.

Berenger Does a Watchable One Man Show
7 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film is not going to make anyone's stranded on a desert island list. However, it was thought provoking and had some good visuals. I've sat through a lot worse. Berenger was able to sell it and carry the film. No one else was bad, they just had minor parts.

Sort of like American graffiti, except it's funny
25 April 2021
Only three things prevent this from being another low brow teen romp: the writing, acting and direction. I watched this for the second time at age 60, to see if it was as funny as I remembered from seeing it as a teen. While not a fan of bathroom humor, I find the concept of merging the song "Volare" with flatulence to be funny. Especially when done in the presence of authority figures. Robert Wuhl has a field day as the smartass-in- chief. Gaylord Sartain is hysterical in his role as the buffoon. I think it was Sartain's comedic skill that kept the thing from going over the top. In the sidekick roll Sandy Helberg was excellent by playing low key off of Sartain. Stuart Pankin was perfect as the mommas boy used as a tool by Newbomb to strike at the establishment. Stands the test of time.

If you are a 6th grader you'll love this.
30 January 2021
Let me start out by saying I love Dennis Farina. Loved the pilot and first 4 episodes. Then they started dumbing it down. I expected a show about crime, not about social injustices. Excellent acting by Farina, Michael Madsen, The Dice Man, pretty much all involved shined. I just am not in the mood to be preached to by my television.

Warrren Oates
18 July 2020
Great under rated crime flick! Everyone on board was great. Fred Ward channels the amazing Warren Oates here, taking what could have been a silly goofball role in a lessor actor's hands. Ward, as Oates, completely sells it. Ward gets great support in this from Charles Napier. Jennifer Jason Leigh nails her part. An LA lady playing a simple bumpkin, a role which also could have gone south with many actresses.

This movie, along with Hill St Blues, made me want to be a cop. This is a perfect example of a guy. A guy who is a pr__k, but a guy who has your back.

Film acting 101!!!
9 January 2020
Every performance in this film was strong as an ox. Margot Kidder nailed it! Martin Landau nailed it! Jimmy Caan ditto. Robert Loggia and on and on. It was evident that this was a low budget production, thus only 9 stars. This is how film acting is done boys and girls.

Bela Lugosi
29 September 2019
This movie is so good on so many levels. De Niro is Bela Lugosi as Dracula just watching and waiting for his next kill. He can conjure more menace with a glance than many actors with an axe. Liotta underplays his role perfectly as the lightweight non Italian. And Joe Peschi is his usual dependable homicidal maniac that no one else could do . This is anything but just another mafia movie.

Star Wars for adults
3 March 2019
This movie is all about the acting. Great thought provoking plot, executed perfectly with flawless performances by all. Gene Hackman "don't act, he just bee's" in the immortal words of Jerry Reed. The special effects are used only to illustrate the story, instead of vice versa.
