SOUND OF BERBERIA (2023)
Sound of Awesomeness
Synopsis: two musicians from Rif (North Morocco) crossing North Africa accompanied by a journalist in search of the Amazigh sound.
Almost five years in the making. We most eagerly awaited and it became an outmost enjoyable movie with a grand soundtrack. With this project, El Idrissi did a great job with the visuals, the soundtrack, the story, and it's budget to create something of real value. He finished the movies complex editing by raising funds via crowdfunding.
Finally, last month on Wednesday the 27th of September 2023, we watched this movie at its European premier in Antwerpen, Belgium. We're the director as well as the cast & crew we're present. As the debut screening of the movie ended after one hour and ninety minutes, audiences rose and stood applauding for two minutes.
Followed by an Q&A with the Riffian director Tarik El Idrissi. At the end of the night, we briefly got to meet El Idrissi, who was very nice and kind, and took time for small talk and some foto's.
If there's one thing that he as a director has demonstrated, it's that his powerful mind of going all the way! He went all the way into realizing one's ambitious dream project he had for years to the point he almost went bankrupt! Showing his genuine love for cinema.
Because of political struggle and centralized governing of power, local cinema almost doesn't exist in Rif. This does not necessarily mean that they can't produce movies. For example just look take a look at how the cinema of Iran manages itself. Iran, nowadays has one of the best exporters of world cinema. Sound of Berberia can easily be considered a shining moment in Riffian cinema.
Immediately following the Wednesday screening, Sound of Berberia went to the autonomous Spanish- Riffian city Melilla for the next screening. We like to thank and wish Tarik El Idrissi and his cast & crew good luck in future projects. For now, they will be having an exciting season waiting for them, by special screenings, festivals, concerts, movie theater releases and television broadcasts.
Hope more festivals and a distributor
will give this movie a shot in their county or city for the cinemagoers to see.
Over the Top (1987)
"The world meets no one halfway".
Another Cannon Classic.
A solid father & son story, that brought a tear to the eye! Over The Top is a perfect storm of Stallone charisma. Our Tom Cruise of the 80's. In a fatherhood story only Stallone could do.
We have the great Robert Loggia as the very controlling and rich father-in-law. The son played by child actor David Mendenhall, who plays a rich brat, with a macho syndrome. His part in the movie was outstanding and he steals most of the scenes. And the Stallone character, a hard working truck driver, his world and the world his son grew up clash.
A solid father & son story and an ex-wife who should be an example to the world. Totally predictable, but totally lovable. After all these years people still watch and talk about. Mine favorite Stallone movie after Rocky and Rambo!
A beautiful infectious soundtrack and beautiful scenery shots of the truck driving through the American mountains. No special effects, no cheap sex scenes. Very entertaining, with a life lesson. A product of its time. They unfortunately don't make them like this anymore!
Go buy the dvd, vhs, or blu ray and if you can't find it go to your local thrift stores. And watch this movie on a Friday night with your sons and your cousins!
Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)
Before Ghostface went to NYC, Jason did it first
At least they tried something different. The intro is good. However due to budgetary restrictions from the studio the first hour is on a boat. We're the director tries to make the best out of the boat scenes. An interesting setting, with boring characters, did not really work, until we get to NYC. We're we get to see Jason on the subway, and Jason in Times Square.
Finally, after one hour when in NYC, we get to see the real Jason! Fun and inventive. Jason looks to have more fun in this entry, especially in the rooftop boxing scene. The ending sucks, and made no sense, and the running time was unnecessarily too long!
Some call it the worst Friday. Some call it the black sheep of the franchise, I will go with the black sheep one. Common sense should tell you to skip part eight. But I had a good time with it. And watching it with friends makes it more fun! Go and get your dvd or blu ray copy of: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan.
Dark Angel (1990)
Nostalgia
I just discovered this cool classic action-movie last night via a YouTuber called: Oliver Harper. He makes very cool retrospective/reviews videos. Check out his amazing channel.
He did a video about Dark Angel, that got my attention immediately. As I am a big fan of 80'90 action movies, i had honestly never heard of this one.
So I searched on YouTube and voila a complete Blue Ray Version has already been uploaded in 2015, and is still working.
Go check it out! A must see gem, if you like the 80's and 90's action movies! A good story, a nice supporting cast, good camera work and nice music. With a very little budget the makers did a very GOOD job.
