Marriage of Lies (2016)
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!!!
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! I feel ENTIRELY robbed of the last hour and a half of my life. The acting and casting, the storyline, the writing... Everything about this movie was purely awful. It already starts badly in not giving us any opportunity to know and connect with the characters before things go left. Right away, the husband is missing. The description of the movie stated they had a perfect marriage. How do we know?!?? We don't see anything of either of their marriage before he just randomly doesn't come home one day. And so much of the acting was bland... Much of the writing felt very cookie cutter and cliché -- like a high schooler was writing what he *thinks* a detective might say... Or what he *thinks* a teenage girl or a lawyer might say. Nothing felt genuine or organic in this film. None of the charged had depth. Oh! And not to mention the main "detective" constantly having to explain and remind his partner detective THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE FILM of things I would *think* would be investigation 101 -- not jumping to conclusions (which he said about 55 times), not making assumptions, following the evidence, etc. Between them and the wife, soooo much exposition included throughout the script. So much they had to explain to one another that was really CLEARLY for us because the movie does such a poor job setting things up naturally. Horrible horrible movie. And that's saying a lot from me -- it's been a while since I've rated a movie... really anything less than a 4 (out of 10). This barely deserves a 1. Barely.
Ugh. What a waste of time. Life.
Triggered (2020)
Last laugh is on the viewer. And not in a good way.
I'm 3/4ths into this flick and only just now noticing the "comedy" genre assignment. 😐😐😐 Reeeaaally wish I'da known this over an hour ago. I wouldn't have watched it. I did notice it had an unusual number of corny lines, like it's supposed to be part humorous, but just thought it was... corny writing. Even still... It's corny writing. I see a lot of reviews mentioning bad acting in this. I don't think the actors are bad. I think the script is horrible. Began with potential, ranked the more it went on. I'm gonna finish these last 25mins., because I've already committed to over an hour of it, but if I knew two hours ago what I know now, I definitely wouldn't have watched it all.. and don't recommend, unless you're a fan of wanna-be-comical horror time wasters.
Gone Missing (2013)
A-quality TV/Lifetime-type movie!
Definitely one of the best TV movies I've seen in recent years. I was VERY pleasantly surprised by it. Solid storyline, characters, acting, and production as a whole. I'm glad I gave this one a chance!!
The Voices (2014)
Reynolds' best performance yet -- sooooo underrated
Extremely underrated film. I'm so mad I JUST finally checked it out. Definitely not a lighthearted, true "comedy," if that's what you're looking for. It gets very (very, very) dark but is incredibly fascinating and believable in its portrayal of the ill mind and distorted perspective of a very troubled man. The writing, acting, directing, production, and cinematography are 👌🏾👌🏾 all superb. And this is quite possibly Reynolds' best performance (or at least of what I've seen of him) yet -- Oscar-worthy. If you can go into this film with a very open mind, I highly recommend it. It's sad and interesting and weird and somewhat humorous and eerie and shocking and tragic and thought-provoking all at the same time.
