Out of Exile (2022)
A generic bank robbery drama with a bit of flavor add to it!!!
This film is your generic bank robbery thriller but it does add a little flavor itself with a plot of about a man finding a way to redeem himself for his past transgressions while also trying to find a way to escape his criminal lifestyle before it is too late. This kinda of plot is a little different compared most bank robbery films as they are usually about guys trying to make it rich while escaping the law. This film does it differently as Gabe is trying get out of his previous bad deeds but also move on with his life and start a new one with his estranged daughter. Now I did enjoy the performances by Adam Hampton and Ryan Merriman both, I liked the story that Gabe had in this film as he is broken man that has paid for his mistakes by serving prison but due to not knowing life outside of crime, he goes right back into it. It is only when his brother botches the bank job and kills an armored bank guard does he see the errors of his ways. This story of Gabe is really a story of redemption and rebirth. As he tries to redeem himself from his sins by trying to fix all of the issues that he caused plus he plans to get himself a rebirth by starting a whole new life without crime involved. Now Adam's performance is very strong in this film and you can tell that he truly embraced the character that he is acting as. Which I very well enjoyed. Now Ryan Merriman may have just had the best performance of his career in this film. As Merriman usually is an actor who casted in very small time b Rated films or horror movies and isn't really take serious as a A-listed actor. But his performance in this movie was quite impressive as he plays an intimidating and cunning FBI agent very well. In fact as audience member I was blown away with how convincing his performance was as he looked intimidating onscreen which is incredible to say given Merriman's previous work. But hopefully this film may open the door for Ryan Merriman to have more serious and A-graded roles in the future. Now the one problem that I had with the movie was its ending as I felt it was a little too dark and depressing especially after the redemption arc that the story takes you on plus the ending is one of the those open ended cliffhangers that make you have to have own interpretation. I don't mind open ended films if they are necessary, I just didn't think that this film needed an open ended ending and should have had a more grounded and solid structured ending instead. But that is just my critique and opinion on the film. Overall though I had a decent fun time with this film and I could definitely see myself watching it again.
Missing (2023)
Missing is a truly superior sequel and masterpiece of a thriller film!!!!
This is film a true incredible and intense thrill ride that was brilliantly written and is filled with lots of twists and unexpected surprises throughout it. "Missing" is definitely superior to "Searching" as it takes all of the suspense and drama from that film and triples the intensity to it. It has honestly been a long time for me in the theater watching a film where I was completely blown away and wondering what was going to happen next. As things seem to get worse and worse for the character June as she tries to search for her mother. I love the fact with this film that the more June goes through rabbit hole trying to find the whereabouts of her mother, the darker things seem to get for her. The thing that I love about this movie is that there is no calmness for the characters, everything is in panic and the intensity is sky high. As audience member with this movie there truly isn't a time for you to relax and compose yourself with what you are seeing like some films do, cause this movie certainly does not allow that. The plot twist and the third act really blow me away and caught me off guard cause the shocking reveal of what has happened to Grace and why she has went missing was something I truly did not see coming. Plus the third act is also quite darker and more disturbing than anything that "Searching" tried to do with its plot. Now I give praise to Storm Reid for her performance in this film as you could truly feel the fear, intensity and emotions of her character in the performance that she put on. The fact that June wasn't always the best daughter to Grace and knowing that June regretted a lot of the stuff that she had done to her mom and the fact that she might not ever see her again to tell her that she loves her and how sorry she truly was for her past transgressions was real gut punch at times. June is definitely a character that the audience can get behind and feel for throughout out the film. The whole time I was watching this film I was alongside her hoping that she would see her mom again. I honestly think that Storm Reid deserves a Golden Globe nod for her performance in this film, that is truly how amazing this young woman did with this movie. "Missing" is truly a film that I recommend that everyone go see this weekend and is also must buy for your Blu-ray and DVD collection once it becomes available.
The Devil Conspiracy (2022)
Incredibly brilliant horror action fun!!!
My review on "The Devil Conspiracy" is that it is a surprisingly brilliant film that is fueled by its mix of horror and action elements and while it has a blasphemous and crazy plot, the storytelling and its characters are well written and the CGI is incredibly driven. "The Devil Conspiracy" is directed by Nathan Frankowski and follows a young scholar and artist Laura (Alice Orr-Ewing) who is invited to the Vatican by her friend Father Marconi (Joe Doyle) to witness and celebrate the opening exhibit of The Shroud of Turin, a document believed to be covered in Jesus Christ's DNA and is shrouded with the light that is supposed to have covered Jesus during his resurrection. As Laura visits the exhibit, she studies a sculpture of the Archangel Michael (Peter Mensah) banishing Lucifer (Joe Anderson) to Hell and is accosted by a group of Satanists who come to the Vatican to steal the shroud, inorder to use Jesus's DNA to create a vessel pure enough for Lucifer to inhabit and walk upon Earth in. As the Satanists enter the church who are led by their leader Liz (Eveline Hall), they are confronted by Father Marconi who dies trying to stop them and also kidnap Laura in the process but with his dying wish he asked for Michael to possess his body and stop Liz's plot. As Michael possesses his Marconi's body, he is forced to take on Liz and her cult of Devil worshippers as well as stop the implanted baby made from Jesus's DNA that dwells within Laura from being born before Satan possesses it and unleashed reign of Hell on Earth. "The Devil Conspiracy" is a surprisingly brilliant film that is fueled by its mix of horror and action elements and while it has a blasphemous and crazy plot, the storytelling and its characters are well written and the CGI is incredibly driven. Now this film was brilliantly written despite its very blasphemous tone and subplots as its story is quite different from any type of related property out there. I loved the horror elements and the action elements in the film. Especially the film's views on possessions and demonic entities. I like the fact that just like the film "Legion" this movie didn't go overtop with its story and tried to maintain balanced premise that doesn't go over audience's heads with its religious themes and subject matter. I honestly think that if you like films like "Legion", "Prophecy", "Hansel And Gretel" and "Underworld", you will have a blast with this one like I did. I also thought that CGI was incredible as well especially with the sets such as this film's depiction of Hell as instead of being this place covered in fire, it is more like a dark desolated place surrounded by powerful storms, lava and rocks. As the film depicts Lucifer as not being the ruler of Hell but instead as Hell being his eternal prison where he is trapped there by Michael alongside his followers who wait for Lucifer to be freed. I also liked the characters in the film as well especially Liz who I thought stole the show with her performance as actress Eveline Hall was quite terrifying and intimidating in this movie. She does a fantastic job as dark cult leader who I hope becomes a bigger part of a new film if this movie gets a sequel which I really hope it does. Now if I have to say anything negative about the film it would be that I kinda wished that we would have gotten a big battle sequence between Michael and Lucifer instead the ending that we get in the film. Which I completely fine with the ending as the ending is very spiritual and comforting in a way but I kinda wanted that big CGI fight sequence kind of an ending. But beside that criticism, I had a blast wit this film and I hope more people go see it as the marketing unfortunately hasn't been very successful so far promoting the movie. So guys please go check this film out as it definitely is worth the watch. Overall "The Devil Conspiracy" is a surprisingly brilliant film that is fueled by its mix of horror and action elements and while it has a blasphemous and crazy plot, the storytelling and its characters are well written and the CGI is incredibly driven. I really hope we get a sequel or franchise with this film I loved the concept and plot that this movie had and the characters are quite driven. Plus with the ending that the film has I really believed that there is a lot more story to tell in the world that film is involved in.
