Collateral Beauty (2016)
A+
A good script well acted, well-directed, well-filmed movie. Worth watching to the end.
Road to Nowhere (2010)
A film about a crime from so many blended points of view that you have to see it twice.
This film is a pleasure to watch but a veritable conundrum to figure out. Watching it a second time will sort an incredible amount out. It is told from the point of view of a blogger, a filmmaker, several of the actors, an insurance adjuster and, most interestingly, contains spin-offs of possible plot lines in the mind of the filmmaker. I think this is where most of the confusion comes from. If you like puzzles, this is the film for you. Wonderful acting, interestingly filmed. Trying to sort out the various plot levels becomes the challenge. Those who say there is no method to the madness haven't looked closely enough. Everyone within the film is trying to figure out this crime so it is only fair that the audience is let in on the game as well.
I Love Dick (2016)
Incredible, Original, Risky, Brilliant. Not for the faint-hearted or easily shocked.
This is the most exciting new series I've seen in years. It follows no precedent, is in no way predictable. Every scene is a work of art. Any artist whose muse is not pricked by these 8 episodes should do a bit of self-inquiry. Wow!!! It is like beautiful and tasteful pornography. So much of what passes for erotica on the internet is just explicit and cruel sexuality. These eight episodes, as raw as the sex might be, are never brutal. The sets, casting, directing, writing and acting all get an A+ in my book. No wonder Kevin Bacon is the pivotal point for six degrees of separation. He is riveting in this role, as is Kathryn Hahn.
