I due superpiedi quasi piatti (1977)
Slapstick at its best
Another slapstick/action centered Terence Hill / Bud Spencer movie. The humor is on point and the chemistry between Terence & Bud is present at all times. It's that special kind of love/hate relationship like with old married couples. The blind understanding and mutual respect, while pissing each other off in a loving manner - constantly.
The humor excels in the build-up to action sequences but is generally scattered throughout the movie. Timings and body language are perfect.
The story won't win prizes but is actually solid and well-rounded for that kind of action movie. Only negative point I can find, is that its getting a bit repetitive towards the end.
The Last Man on Earth: Falling Slowly (2016)
Catches the essence of the show
This episode includes a bit of everything that makes LMOE special. It's about Phils relationship with the two most important people in his life - Carol and Mike. But also his friendship with Todd. While being able to deliver on darker and more serious topics (Silent Night), this one is more light-hearted yet still well done. Utilizing the shows unique mix of slapstick and character development.
The Last Man on Earth (2015)
Great - especially for a TV show
When I first saw a trailer for Last Man on Earth, I was disappointed, cause I was curious for a serious SciFi approach on that topic. I could not imagine how yet another sitcom would handle this topic - to me, it was prone to fail.
That was until I accidently zapped to an episode of Last Man on Earth. What can I say. I was hooked to it right away.
The main theme is goofy and fun, but there is so much more to it. It covers mature topics like psychological issues of an isolated community. The acting is done really well. So is the production and the story, which, over the first season, mainly explores Phil unlikely relationship with Carol, in a very heartwarming fashion.
Really well done. Rarely seen a TV show with such quality and impact.
The Last Man on Earth: Alive in Tucson (2015)
Great - especially for a TV show
The pilot is especially well produced - it could easilybe a movie if they inteded it to be.
Life Is Strange 2 (2018)
A bad version of Life is Strange
This review is about Episode 1.
Life is Strange Season 1(!) is a unique and one of the best games out there. If you remotely like adventure games, scifi or drama, you will love LiS. So of course every fan impatiently waited for Season 2 to arrive.
Some were a bit disappointed by the decision not to continue with Max & Chloe, but the devs opinion, the story was told and it was time for something new.
While this game still feels like Life is Strange on the first look, I can't help but say that there is still something essential missing. Season 1 was taking a mature stance on things, challenging our views and decisions, having an impactful storyline and drawing characters in different shades. Season 2 falls completely flat on that part (for now).
You got a well working moral "caring-system" for your brother, which will influence his fate, but that's about it. The story makes no sense at best. i do not want to spoiler, but one question sums it up: "Why are they doing this?" The lead characters are sympathic, but not more than the side characters on Season 1. And the worst: all the other characters come along as stereotypical as it gets. Everyone on the country is a racist. Police is trigger happy and racist. Neighbours are... racist. The only good guy is a poor version of Michael Moore. So in the end, there might be an answer to the "why" - but it does not get any better as it is: "because everybody is racist". Point.
This is just so not Life is Strange. Life is Strange is known for elaborating on characters and why they act the way they do. Instead, LiS must have a Trump-Trauma and uses Season 2 as SJW-lecture.
So sad. :)
American Gods (2017)
Weird, but in a good way
First off, the series is rather unconventional. You do not wanna expect typical mystery / scifi stuff, or you'll be disappointed, as so many are.
The strength of Americans Gods is really strong acting, very interesting characters that get you hooked onto, and a carefully, intelligently developed story that unfolds around all of that.
Like I said in the beginning, this series does not want to be action centered, it deals with mythical/philosophical questions and puts it into context to the real world. Yet this might seem weird to a few people, it is not exceeding the boundaries to become pure art-fiction. Though there are lots of artistic pictures and metaphors, it is always rooted to reality. At least if you have a bit of a sense for fantasy or a passion for philosophical questions.
