Evil Dead Rise (2023)
You get what you expect
First of all, its definately not fpr everyone. I can understand everyone who says this film is bad.
For me it was a great improvement to the first part. Its still not the best horror film you will see, but there are a lot of blood and gore in it. The atmosphere is great an the mask did a great job also. It has funny moments as well.
So i definately got everything that i was expecting and more. If you didnt like the first one you shouldnt warch this. I didnt regret it to watch it at the cinema. But you ave to be aware of what you are watching here. If thats the case, just try to lean back and enjoy the ride.
The Gift (2015)
An absolute gift!
Simon meets an old friend from school. What starts with a nice meeting is getting scarier the longer the movie runs. The less you know about the story, the better it is for you. Thats why i will not tell more about it.
Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall and especially Joel Edgerton as Gordo are absolute brilliant in this one. Great storytelling and a good pace also. The tension builds slowly wich was the absolute right decision by the director. If you love thrillers you almost have to love this one. I didnt expect this kind of ending, but i dont want to tell more about it cause i dont want to spoiler you.
The Gift has to be one of my favourite thrillers of all time. Could have even had a higher rating that it has in my opinion.
Kadaver (2020)
Not so bad as critics say
Kadaver is a unusual post-apocalyptic horror thriller. I didnt see many campareble movies. I liked the idea of it and gave it a try, although the critics are not very positive. What i saw was a good and very atmospheric build up to a not very surprising and disappointing ending. To the end it gets a bit predictible and the ending itself coult have been much better as it was. But i didnt regret watching it. It was a good movie to watch for a saturday night. Dont expect to much and give it a try. If you like mystery horror movies you could like it. Nothing thats in your mind for a long time but okay for a movie night in wich you dont know how to watch.
Barbarian (2022)
The one question i was asking myself all the time: WHY???
I was looking forward for barbarian for a long time to start in Germany. But now my disappointment is huge. How many plotholes can a single movie have?
***SPOILERS***
Why does this woman even live down there? Why is she watching a TV show about kids? Why is she treating the intruders as her kids? What the hell is the other guy doing down there in his bed and why did he commit suicide? How could they rent a house that was not beeing rented in the last month?
Maybe i just didnt understand what the director wants to tell me.
But in my opinion this is just a bad movie that doesnt make any sense for me. But it is how it is. Good horror movies are still very rare these times. How could this one reach such good critics.
Ghostland (2018)
Might be hard to watch for many people, but i loved it!
Good horrorthrillers are very rare for now. Even more beautiful that i found this one.
But you shouldnt watch it of you are a bit of a sensitive person.
For me Ghostland delivers from the first to the last minute with great tension unpredictable twists and a breathtaking atmosphere. It had almost everything i wanted to see.
Im pretty sure this one isnt for everyone. Its relentless story and its brutal scenes make this film hard to watch for a standard viewer.
It might also be a bit over the top for most people but as i said, thats excactly what i wanted to see.
You will hear a lot of screaming and you will also see a lot of blood in it.
Its a mixture of psycho, horror, thriller and mystery wich fully worked for me.
If youre a fan of this genre you might not be disappointed. I definetely wasnt.
Smile (2022)
Yes! Finally a good modern horror movie
As a big fan of horror i was searching for a well scripted und creepy film for a very long time. I found it in this one.
Starting off a bit slow, wich was the only right decision for me, to build up the tension and give the characters at least a bit of personality. Of course this could have been done a bit more detailed. But in comparison with other horror films ive watched it actually was enough for me.
The story is told in a good pace and the longer the film goes, the more interesting and creepy it gets. I even found myself with goosebumps at times because of the looks on the characters faces when they "smiled".
But with the ending, there was a last hurdle to take to make this a good horror film. They nailed it for me.
Even after my great expectations after i saw the trailer, i was not disappointed after watching the film. I really liked it at many horror regisseurs should take this one as an example how its done. Im a big fan of "Smile".
Mr. Harrigan's Phone (2022)
Too slow for me
I was really looking forward to this film.
But it wasnt exactly what i was expecting.
Its definately not horror. More like thriller/drama.
The fact that it isnt a horror film doesnt automatically make it a bad film. But the try to combine a coming of age movie with a horrorthriller completely failed for me.
After the slow start i waited for the tension to build up. But i kept waiting till the end without success.
I really wanted to like it but the, in my opinion, very boring story and the slow storytelling made it very hard for me to watch till the end.
As i said: I had great expectations for Mr. Harrigans Phone. This might influence my rating a bit and there might be many people who like this one, but i am not one of them.
The Invitation (2015)
Let yourself be invited
The invitation starts off a bit slow but still manages to build a good and thrilling atmosphere. I completely understand that its not a movie for everyone but fans of mysterythrillers shoukd like it i think. Reminded me a bit on "Get out".
The longer the movie runs, the more exciting it gets. Some good and unpredictable twists in it too. The actors doing a really good job too.
Just dont expect a pure slasher or jump scare horror movie. Its very slow at the beginning and could have been told a bit faster. But for me it completely worked cause of the building tension through it. So it had almost everything i wanted in that moment.
Enjoyed it!
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
A very good, short series
Squid Game is a bit overrated for me. But its entertaining from the first to the last episode. The storytelling is very good and the ideas of the games are very nice. I liked it.
But in comparison to other series there is missing something. I dont regret watching it, but i dont follow the hype.
Coherence (2013)
Sci-Fi/Mystery at its best
Im definately not a Sci-Fi fan, but Coherence is a low budget movie that impresses with great tension and a very interesting and most of the time unpredictable story.
I loved the atmosphere of it and couldnt take my eyes of the screen since the beginning. Absolutely fantastic!
Even if i didnt like the ending very much, this is a movie that will be in my mind for a long time.
Army of the Dead (2021)
I really wanted to like it
I was looking forward to this one since i saw the first trailer. But in the first fifteen minutes i already realized that it was not worth the waiting. Its a mixture of a really bad script, a poor story and absolutely stupid characteres.
Its neither funny nor thrilling. Absulutely disappointed!
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi (2016)
Liked it!
Yes, its a typical michael bay movie from hollywood. But a very intense one, that keeps you at the edge of you seat from the first minute.
Just lean back and have fun!
Black Box (2020)
OK, not more, not less
First of all: Please dont expect a horror film. Its more Like a psychological sci-fi-thriller.
The Idea of that one is very nice and had much potential. It reminds me of one of my Favoriten series: Black Mirror. If you like sci-fi, you could really enjoy this.
But for me, it loses its drive in the middle and gets very predictable. Over all ill give it a average 5.
