City Slickers (1991)
Love this film
Mitch Robbins (Billy Crystal) is hit the dreadful age of despair, 39. He fears there is more he could've done in life and fears he will never get that chance because of his advanced age. He's not alone in this as his friends Phil Berquist (Daniel Stern) and Ed Furillo (Bruno Kirby) feel the pinch as well. So the trifecta embark on a two week sabbatical to redeem themselves by saddling up their horses and ride off into the Old West from New Mexico to Colorado. They are led by an experienced cowboy named Curly (Palance) who shows them how it's done and gives them a life's lesson about the meaning of life while driving cattle to the open country.
Even though the story is rich in character and performance, the plot is actually quite weak and predictable. We know that the triad will learn that that midlife isn't the be all to end all in the cycle of life. The real fun underlies within the interaction between the city folk and the country folk and though it might be a bit stereotyped from both party members, Curly's lessons about life lingers the whole way through.
The juxtapose of witty comical banter and slapstick moments are carries the film in its entire 1 hr. 52 min. Duration. The laughter is always there and holds up like a stampede can be caused due to the sound of a coffee grinder or the cynical gripes from Billy Crystal's Mitch. And sure the set pieces are there for a surreal goofy film that lampoons the Western genre, it all seems to be in place like it was intended to be. This may be due to the trio's realization that they had a good thing coming for them all along and that they are novice ranchers and are not cut out to hold this job. It never feels one-sided and gives equal balance between the witty banter and slapstick quality this movie has making it feel more organic and less forced.
Freedom (2014)
Timothy Chey's greatest work.
Timothy Chey did a good job producing and writing this movie, and it's an epic story that flows really well. I just saw his current film 'The Islands' in the theaters right now. It's also really good.
This is one of those movies that will last through the ages because it's always going to be relevant. The acting in this movie is really stellar. This isn't a movie that you can sit down and watch over and over and over again, however every once in a while it is a great movie to just sit down and enjoy.
10/10
The Islands (2019)
A Classic of the New Historical Faith Genre
Some spoilers ahead.
This movie deserves Oscars in a perfect world, but glad it's won accolades. It s a wonderful film of the "New Historicals."
Great acting and a lovely score round out this classic film. My favorite scene is at the very end, where the macho warrior tells the missionary, "can't you see that you are my friend?" Watch it!
Over all this film is great there is never really a boring part in the film it keep me entertained through out the hole movie. My rating is 10 out of 10
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
good!
With Silence of the Lambs comes some much needed recognition for the horror genre. It is a first- rate production all around. It boasts a witty and suspenseful script based on the Thomas Harris novel, full of great lines. It has marvelous direction from Demme. Demme creates suspense very well throughout and uses some great directorial shots such as the twin frames of Clarice ringing a doorbell and the FBI men breaking into a home. The two lead actors won Oscars for their performances...each deserved. Foster is very good in her role, but it is Anthony Hopkins that literally lights up the screen with his complex portrayal of a complex serial killer. Hopkins does the seemingly impossible. He frightens you with his outrageousness and yet illicts some pity/compassion(albeit not a lot) for his situation. He says his lines with reservedness when needed and brashness when needed. The rest of the cast is also quite good with Anthony Heald a standout as a unethical, petty doctor in charge of Hopkins. Of course the story of the other killer is very very chilling as well. A quality film in all aspects!
