A Dedicated Life: Phoebe Brand Beyond the Group (2015)
A Tribute...
Phoebe Brand was a very special lady. Not only was she a pioneer in American theater as a member of the group theater along side Harold Clurman, Stella Adler and Clifford Odets, but as a private teacher, she changed the lives of generations of actors. Beyond that legacy, she had a rich life as well. Did you know she, along with her husband, was blacklisted in Hollywood during the communist scare, or that she worked in the very first Macy's thanksgiving day parade in NYC. Ms. Duarte has done a tremendous job bringing this fascinating story to life. As a teacher herself, a protégé of Stella Adler and as a dear friend of Ms. Brand, she handled the storytelling with grace. See this documentary when you get a chance. Just to see the scores of friends and fellow actors that spoke on Phoebe's behalf at her memorial was touching. Luckily for all of us, Phoebe spent nearly two years working side by side with Cristina on this film prior to passing in 2004.
The Order of Three (2015)
moving drama...
I enjoyed this title. It was moving and well cast. The chemistry between the actors was at the fore front of the film, but this is a character driven story. The scenery was magnificent and the film quality was excellent (4k). All in all, I felt drawn in to the individual stories that inter-wind, from the first few minutes. When it comes back to Netflix, I think it is worth checking out.
Siege at Desert Pass (2017)
Gripping Drama.
This film examines the soldier/survivor experience post deployment. The war scenes were orchestrated well and kept my attention throughout, but this film is so much more. The director did a magnificent job drawing us into the character's experience abroad, but her approach to the experience once home was so much more. I was moved by the lead character played by T.D. Russell. Not only was he able to play a fearless Seal with so much honor, but he brought such a vulnerability to the character once home, that we empathize with him so much that I was moved. As I understand it now, this film was a pilot project for a series. I look forward to it and hope the lead, TD Russell will continue with the project. Check out a few of his clips on IMDb.
