Excellent movie
5 September 2023
This is not one of those special effects blockbuster movies.

So most people here who saw and reviewed this just don't get it.

The woman who made "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" co-wrote this great movie.

Because of that, this movie has a real human touch.

These are things that are really happening now in this country.

Like the writers pieced together a great screenplay from stories and personal experience of friends and family.

A very relatable movie.

All of the actors did great work in this movie. Some even went on to bigger roles in popular movies.

So the rest here is filler because my review is too short.

Classic will never bore you.

Very good social commentary about life in America in the 60s.

Can't believe some of these reviews where the people who saw this are clueless about what is really being said in this great movie.

This movie also shows where the grown-ups came in and ruined the sexual revolution for the young people.

Just like the adults do now with Halloween.

Great cast. With some excellent acting from Dustin Hoffman, Katherine Ross and Anne Bancroft. And the mayor of Shark City who plays Elaine's dad. Great supporting cast.

American society in California really was like that for the upper classes.

The man who wrote the original story in a book actually passed on the residuals offered to him from Hollywood to turn his book into this great movie.

The writer asked that any of his profits be donated to charity.

Very good time spent watching a bit of American society from the 60s.

Actress is very beautiful.

The French movies are good.

Very creative. They can take a man's moustache and write a whole movie about that and fill it with intrigue and implied sex and suspense.

The only reason I wanted to see this and others with this very beautiful French actress was for that.

Very beautiful woman.

Good movie.

The actress is very beautiful.

The cinematography of France is beautiful.

Great story about a woman who creates fragrances.

The movie is more a drama/comedy.

Very well made movie and very entertaining.

The situations are all very believable.

Very good movie
12 June 2022
Take a nice break from the Hollywood film factory movies and watch this very funny movie.

Two very good looking young women struggling to get by in big city New York.

Funny and believable situations with all the people in this funny movie, esp the people in la la land.

Excellent "indie" movie
12 June 2022
The very cute actress with the glasses from "Apartment Troubles" is in this highly entertaining and very funny movie. Existential humor if you can see that as you sit and watch this in your living room coffin.

Great supporting cast. Great story.

This movie is another great break from the Hollywood film factory movies.

Sad bits thrown in with some mystery to make it worth your time. Very good movie.

Highly recommend. Tell your friends.

Dull for a sci-fi flick.

Long, long story and very little of anything else.

This movie was just a disappointment.

Glad I did not spend good money at the local theater to see this.

And it made some good box office when it was first released.

Excellent movie about Alzheimer's
14 April 2022
Great cast. Great cinematography, esp of Venice. Great story.

The movie only seems "silly" to some because it makes a great effort at making light of a very difficult disease of the brain that afflicts many people today. And this movie does a great job of explaining Alzheimer's and the behavior of people with Alzheimer's.

This movie really raised my awareness about Alzheimer's.

I am a senior citizen now and I could fall victim to that sad disease.

Nick Nolte's portrayal of an old but formerly very successful man now afflicted by Alzheimer's is excellent. Some great acting. His own young daughter's acting as the deeply sympathetic and cheerful grand daughter is also some great acting.

A very real feel to the whole movie with a great supporting cast. An excellent drama/comedy. Strongly recommend this movie esp if you have older family or friends with Alzheimer's.

Good slow paced movie with great images of their country.
17 March 2022
Good story. Retired guys living in a beautiful country want to move somewhere better they think.

They start saving money and in the end they decide on something else.

If it had been me in real life as a retiree myself, I would have suggested taking a grand tour of the beautiful European continent they live in. They have special tours for senior citizens.

Still a very good movie because you believe that it's not a movie but something that is actually happening to three retired guys as you watch.

The social interactions of the movie characters are funny and endearing.

This very good movie deserves more viewers. Strongly recommend.

Very funny. Sometimes.
1 March 2022
But I still tune in because I need a daily dose of good humor, what with the idiots we think run things in the world not knowing what they're doing. That's a nightmare.

Good down-home humor on this TV comedy. Folksy?

Good cast.

I start to believe that place and the people actually exist.

And they do. Just not like portrayed on this light-humored TV show.

I was disappointed that the gas station prop building was recently demolished.

That was really a good Canadian landmark that would have brought in the tourists. And I'm from Texas.

The acting. The story. Funny and highly entertaining.

Hard to believe this movie was made by the guy that played "Eric the Clown" in that Seinfeld episode.

Extremely creative. Great dialogue and cinematography in this superb movie.

Great movie.

Kroc was already in his early 50s when he got the idea to expand McDonald's.

Great movie based on true events.

At first, when I heard about Ray Kroc, I did not think much.

But after watching this, I admired the man's determination to do something great at his age.

When I was a kid, McDonald's burgers were something. Like a treat.

Highly entertaining movie.

The end of LIFE.
14 December 2021
Everyone after this is nothing but a corporate automaton.

Only the real creatives get to live their lives fully.

Great that they used the daydreaming of Mitty to carry the story, but what this movie is really showing is the end of life as well as the magazine.

Everyone else has to goose-step to the mostly empty lives given to us by the LIFE-less corporations ruled by dead-from-the-neck-up idiots like the corporate headhunters depicted in this very good movie.

Even dating is corporatized now.

This great movie is not in any way a "re-make" of the old Danny Kaye movie.

Well worth the time to watch and it's a very funny movie.

Great story. Great cinematography.

These are things that happen to real people every day.

Women with small children are esp. Vulnerable.

But they are not the only people who struggle as this movie will show.

Powerful film. Great story. Great acting. Great cinematography.

Very good movie. Strongly recommend.

Excellent 21st century sitcom.
2 December 2021
Finally. A situation comedy that deals with issues of and in the present time.

Love this new show. Funny and believable.

Great acting from all.

I like that the children in this sitcom act like how real kids are, and not obnoxious stereotypes of spoiled children like what is usually used on other sitcoms.

Hope this great new show stays on for several seasons.

Looking forward to that. Thanks ABC.

Turkey Boy was mad that the human couldn't save Sweet Pea.
23 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The female killed at the end. Probably the mother hen of Turkey Boy's brood.

Excellent documentary that I saw when it was first released on PBS.

You might be able to watch it for free on a PBS app. But I rented a HD copy from Amazon.

I will watch it again and recommend it to anyone interested.

I know the director has a good rep for horror movies, but this newest movie of his falls flat on its face.

Was looking for something new to watch on Prime. I chose poorly.

The story is extremely weak.

This movie should have won for Best Film at the Academy Awards.

Block buster, big name movies get old fast, those are like every year now.

This movie has great cinematography and great music.

The story is excellent and the actors were their best in this great movie.

So good, that I bought my own copy from Amazon.

Excellent movie
2 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Well written sci-fi-ish thriller. I actually became a fan, which I never really do, of the actor Bradley Cooper with this movie. It would really be great if, and there probably already is and we just don't know it, if there really was a drug that would greatly enhance your intelligence like the drug that is depicted in this movie. The movie itself was filmed in a riveting style with all kinds of things really happening to this guy now that he has enhanced his confidence with the drug that made him extremely intelligent. Things really start to happen as soon as the main character takes his first pill and that is what drives the viewer to keep watching this great movie. Plus the interesting manner in which the movie was filmed made it very good to look at. Sorry to say I missed this at the theaters and only started to watch this now that cable will play this on the tube. Action. Suspense. Mystery. Thrills. Very beautiful women in compromising situations. What more can a guy ask for?

Whitney Cummings: I Love You (2014 TV Special)
1/10
Lousy comedy for late night viewers. Torture really.
12 July 2014
Stayed up late today to watch this on Comedy Central where it was on at 2AM. Thought I'd get some good laughs but that did not happen. I started to surf around about 15 minutes into her "act". Whitney is a very good looking woman I'll give her that, but funny she is not. I think that many people make the mistake that because she is a comedian then her material is funny. I could call myself a comedian too, but I know that just saying that I am one does not automatically make me funny. Some people might even go so far as to say something dumb like, she's edgy or her humor is cutting edge. Not. Sorry to say, but looks alone will not get me to tune into any future "comedy specials" by Whitney Cummings. I still do tune in whenever she makes appearances on late night talk shows, although I did notice that she never does stand-up on any of the late night shows I've seen her in lately. Could be a reason for that. So if you see her listing on the cable TV schedule for this unfunny stand-up, I say keep surfing to see what else is on because you're not going to miss anything on "I Love You".

Kandi episodes are probably the funniest of this show
9 May 2014
All 16 episodes starring "Kandi" are friggin' hilarious. And I have only seen several of them and I'm looking forward to watching the rest. The humor written into these episodes is really funny. And I am one who doesn't really like this show only because most of the times that I've watched it just wasn't funny to me. But the "Kandi" episodes are really good. Plus it helps that the actress who plays "Kandi" is really good looking and very shapely. She played the part perfectly. If you're looking for some really funny episodes from "Two and a Half Men" look at these episodes with "Kandi". They are great. And I haven't even seen them all.

Kick-Ass (2010)
9/10
This movie "kicks ass". In a comic book way.
18 August 2013
I scoffed at first when this movie was released because of the tiny girl unrealistically kicking butt. But I finally saw the whole thing on cable which tuned-down the ultra-violence a little and I saw a great movie.

Great story and unexpectedly funny. Great cinematography. It has a high-color comic-book look to it. Like someone laid the whole thing out comic-book style and then shot each frame for the movie. Storyboard I believe is what they call it.

But in this case, the creators insisted that the look of the storyboard, the action, the feel, the look, they insisted that it go up that way on film or video or whatever digital-computer stuff they use now. Fantastic job. I'm sure the uncensored version is really sick, but to many people today "sick" is good.

I did not know that Nick Cage was in this movie since it seemed that the star focus was on the young kids in the movie. Cage played his role very real. He passed onto the viewer the feeling that this is life in New York now and these things are really happening and he intends to do something about it. Like many good comic-books the movie is also funny. The New York Times called it "giggle and guts entertainment". That's it exactly.

Of course, this movie was excellent for that demographic that Hollywood wants to watch this so they can spread the word to their friends. Great writing and movie-making talent here in this very good movie. And I'm not even a kid anymore, but in the comic-book genre little kids can kick-ass.

Rome, Open City
8 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
First time I've seen this. Great dialog. I liked the scene where one of the German officers who has had too much to drink just comes out and tells everyone that the Germans are just mass murderers. I did not expect that from this movie which was somehow made in 1945. I thought the end was dumb because you have a German officer telling a squad of Italians armed with loaded rifles to execute an Italian priest who refused to talk. Italians in those days were more loyal to the Catholic Church so I was hoping that the squad of Italian executioners would have just turned and aimed their rifles at the German officer and those 2 Italian collaborators wearing trench coats. That would have made for a better ending. Unless of course this movie is based on a true story in which case it had to be told the way it really happened and not the way the audience would have liked it to end. Good movie. End could have been better. You have to give people hope in a hopeless world.

Easy A (2010)

Just plain awful
16 November 2012
This movie is a joke. IMDb has it rated at 7.2?? How is that possible? This movie stinks. Emma Stone is not going to be the next big thing. She really doesn't have it. They put her in outfits in this film to try to make her look sexy and it just doesn't work for Emma Stone. She doesn't have the looks or the body. I hope that other movie makers aren't inspired to try to get her into another movie because Emma Stone doesn't have it. Whatever it is, she ain't got it. All of the other actors in this goofy flick all act like this is just a job and they're happy to get the work. Bland acting all the way across. And the writing. It looks like there are certain producers and movie makers out there who will get people to brainstorm an idea for a movie and they don't even have to try very hard. Just get a few "big" names onto their movie and they are all set. "The films of a nation reflect its mentality in a more direct way than other artistic media." - Siegfried Kracauer

Doc Martin (2004–2022)
8/10
Great alternative to American Television
21 September 2012
That first receptionist on the first season of Doc Martin makes that season unwatchable. Happy they did not keep her for that role. The accents on Doc Martin are all good here, all different. Except for the accent used by that actress. Very difficult to hear. Grating. The absurd braided hair she wears is almost as if the writers are mocking an obnoxious black actor but decided not to look for any people of color to be on this series.

Other than the very obnoxious actress in her role as "Elaine", this is a great English comedy with a good dose of drama to keep it really interesting. Plus its location filmed in South England with beautiful background shots of the area. If I ever could afford to expatriate myself from the increasing madness of the late great USA, I would move to the South of England. I love the clever writing in Doc Martin with its very warm humor throughout. Great characters here too. I love the way they play the calm understated emotions they show in all of the tense moments portrayed in each episode. Are the English like this in real life? I have only recently discovered this great show so I have many more unseen episodes to watch as all are now available on DVD. So again, if you want to watch something that I feel is infinitely better than any American TV shows past or present, go with this Doc Martin series.
