Ki Hwanghoo (2013)
A woman breaks the class system and her heart for becoming an empress.
OK. So this is the best k drama that I have ever watched.Even as a historical drama its one of the best I have ever seen. The plot is unique. Its about a woman who had to betray her lover for higher political aims and for vengeance. I think I have never seen a more mesmerizing and stronger female character than empress Ki. She is brave. She is an amazing strategist, an emotionally strong person.I honestly love her. But more than that I loved Wang yu and it broke my heart to see him dying and to see maha dead. The acting of the characters was brilliant throughout. Everyone from bang and jombak and YomFeisu make you cry. There was too much tragedy in the end. I could never get over the fact that wang yu had to lose maha and eventually himself but the emperor gets to live happily with nyang. The relationship between them was nothing compared to that of yu and nyang. Nyang may have been a huge support for the emperor but nobody loved and protected nyang like wamg yu. I have honestly no idea why people ship the emperor with nyang. OK. Personal opinions aside. Some may find the final ten episodes as predictable or unnecessary. But I think it was important to highlight on the character development of both Bayan and Tal tal. And how eventually even the most patriotic of men can turn corrupt with power. There was one tiny problem though. I felt that the reason we love Nyang and Wangyu so much is because their idea is too romantic. They are too perfect and too white to exist in reality. And maybe that's why they weren't meant to be together.
Dastaan (2010)
A brutal exposure of the tragedies caused by the 1997 partition
This is one of the most underrated serials of Pakistan. I can't even recount how many times I broke down while watching this serial. A mudt watch for lovers of historical fiction and romance. Brilliant acting by all the characters especially Sanam Baloch. Brilliant scriptwriting and brutally tragic and realistic plot. This show is brilliant in every aspect and I honestly wished it was more famous.
Humsafar (2011)
A couple fall prey to a misunderstanding created on purpose
I think this serial was a huge hit because of the leading actors and theor chemistry. Every actor fits perfectly in their character. The on screen chemistry of asher and khirad is too good. The storyline is not unique but dialogue delivery and script writing is definitely worth applause. The soundtrack is beautiful and so is the direction. I have a bit of a problem with khieads character(typical desi good girl) but overall the serial is well made.
Alpha Bravo Charlie (1998)
Three army buddies end up in different places
Brilliant. Just brilliant. I have no words to describe this show. The characters are too amazing. There's no bad and good guy. Its just about the life of three friends who have different aspirations and end up differently. Its so realistic and relatable. Its almost like hearing an everyday conversation. It exposes us to the hardships of army life. It introduces us to intriguing characters like Shahnaz and in the end, it makes us cry. The script and the characters are brilliant. I cant exactly describe why I love thid serial so much but its honestly a masterpiece.
Revenge (2011)
A destroyed woman vows to destroy her enemies.
The most attractive factor of this serial for me was that the hero was a female (AND I LOVE EMOLY THORNE SO MUCH OMG ).And the other protagonist was also bisexual(diversity!!) (Although it was sorta whitewashed) . Now to the entertainment part. If you are one of those people who love action, drama, romance, thrill all encapsulated in one package. THIS IS THE ONE! This show is full of surprises, plot twists, heartbreaks and touching characters. Brilliant acting by everyone especially Madeline and Emily. All the characters will make you cry and attach yourself to them (except victoria & her hubby). A MUST WATCH.
Kkotboda namja (2009)
4 bad boys and a damsel in distress
This serial started out nicely but it became so cliché and predictable that its fame shocks me. There is nothing really going on other than a rich bad boy falling for a clumsy dorky but fiercely loyal girl. Jandi was really nice initially and different from the typical damsels in distress but sje soon turns passive and dependant like all other female characters. Other than her,no character was even good to begin with. There are barely any scenes where we witness phenomenal acting or brilliant scriptwriting.its overrated in my opinion
Ask-i Memnu (2008)
A story about a passionate love affair between a young woman and her step nephew
The most attractive factor of this serial for me was that the hero and heroine were also the villains. There were no angelic romantic characters bathing in pure love. Bihter was a selfish bitch while behlul was a spineless coward who always betrayed bihter. But we still cry and grieve for and with bihter because her passion for behlul redeems her. Beren s aats acting was honestly brilliant. I couldn't help breaking down in season 2 despite knowing how bihter is responsible for her own state. The ending can be criticized as traditional but in my opinion it serves behlul best that bihter dies. Had she survived behlul would have made a life with her and would never have to repay for the sins he committed. I think adnan was the biggest victim of all. He devoted everything to bihter and behlul and yet they betrayed him. The reason I am giving this an 8 instead of a 9 is because season 1 was a bit boring and stretched out in my opinion. It took 28 episodes for behlul to pursue the forbidden love. The music, direction, acting, on screen chemistry and the dangerous and sinful nature of the love shared between the couple- all served to make this serial an amazing experience.
