The War of the Worlds (2019)
Wow that was terrible, it's actually worse than the Tom cruise one in some way's
I don't know if they never read the book, or heard the radio play, but except for the time periode this is nothing like the War of the Worlds. They couldn't even get something as simple as the alien landing ships right, yet they made a lot of unnecessary drama and characters, why I don't know it brings nothing to the story.
This makes me happy I don't live in the UK, because that would mean my tax money would have funded this, and quiet frankly having put them all in one pile and light it on fire and taped that would have been more fun to watch.
Aseudal Yeondaegi (2019)
This is captivating, and the writing is really well done, and the acting is above and beyond.
I really like this show, which surprises even me, but the wait between episodes is even harder than for GoT in the good seasons. The acting is done really well, not just from main characters but even background and supporting ones, and they feel alive, like this place is actually a place that exist. Instead of the feeling like these people are only there to do their job.
The CIG is acceptable, this is not a hollywood production so I am impressed with how much they can get out of the budget. And the sets are also done well, and with story and lore behind them too. You get the feeling that somethings are done because that is how it's always been done.
Again I can't wait for season 3, as the ending took a turn I for once din't see coming. Please keep it up :)
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Nothing made sense, it was pretty and great acting and stunt work, but the writing is still horrible.
Firstly how the hell did the army that left Winterfell, gather the supplies, ready the men that was injured and march down to Kingslanding, and build a siege camp before Arya and the Hound that left before them on horse back got there ?, not to mention Jamie that left almost a day later than them, yet he also somehow over took them, and got captured by the Stark army ?
Something is really wrong with the writing there.
And we have seen just one bolt thrower hit a dragon easy, and the new ones are even more powerful and accurate, that we saw last episode. Then how is she able to avoid the whole fleet armed with them and the city too ?, why didn't she do that before in the last episode, and why didn't she wear amour when she knew there would be archers.
And then we have the how city she made worthless, there is nothing for her there now, the buildings, the goods and the people are gone or killed, so it's not worth ruling over anymore, so she actually lost the in a way.
And then we have Arya that drags civilians out in the open to get killed, why do that, at least they would have been relative safe indoor, instead of draggin them out into the rape, murder and burn street....
Then we have Euron that somehow just found Jamie at the secret entrance to the castle, well everyone seems to be teleportation so why not. He stabs Jamie repeatedly in the guts, but he somehow keeps going, because we know where he has to die in the writers heads. And we are told it was "foreseen", yet they forgot about all the other prophesies like Azor Ahai.
Why is it it seems all the people have lost 40 IQ points in the last seasons ?, they all seem dumber and do things out of characters they build up in the first 1-4 seasons. If this is the level that the writers can achieve then I fear for the Star Wars movies they are going to make, because they seem to just follow standart tropes, and decides the ending they want, and simply shoehorns in the story to fit it, it does not seem natural and is not fun to watch.
Never thought I would ever say this but I am happy it's almost over, this was not worth the 2 years waiting time. And I actually no longer even want to buy it on disc either, the ending is simply too bad for me to want to see it all again.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
- 1 for Miss Marvel, not doing anything, - 1 For Thor and Hulk dumb down and -1 for other "suff"
Okay, again I don't know how to define Miss Marvel, she sometimes seems powerful, but other times seems weak and most of the time completely useless. She claims not to have time for Earth when Thanos snapped, yet if she had been there she might have help or prevented it from happening in the first place.
Yet I don't know if she has the power, as it's all over the place. Okay, she somehow flies and shots energy beams by getting the power from the Space Stone ? Makes no senses.
But at last she's got powers, strong enough to fly through leaser beams and a spaceship, yet not strong enough to get past common foot soldiers ?
Okay a fluke I guess.
Later she tries to take the gauntlet from Thanos, something even Cap. American almost did alone, yet she can't, but she can take a headbutt from him no problem, it is almost like he is all CGI right there. Sigh
And she has the IG for a long time, yet she never takes it on to end the treat, no it has to be a normale human that does that, even though it seems she would handle that power just as good as the Hulk,as she did adsorb powers from a stone with no problems. And she has plenty of time while the female "heroes" assembles around her to help her, becasue her powers are all over the place.
Why did you take so much away from Thor and Hulk, we really needed the two most powerful heroes in this fight, yet they are reduced to jokes most of the time, and Thor just say that he is no leader in the end, yet that was what Thor 3 was all about.
Then there is the death of Black Widow, the one we all hoped would finally get a movie, guess this is Disney's way of telling us no on that.
The death of Ironman felt like the death of the Marvel Universe, the journey that came to a close and was telegraphed from a mile away.
And lastly you made Cap. America grow old, at least with his love, but it would have been better to show his slow aging instead, so he could still be a supporter to the cause.
I feel like this is the last movie of Avengers we will ever get, as they are almost all dead, left or retired, and the supporting actors don't seem like they will go on either. We will get Spiderman and GoTG I hope, but it really will not feel tied in any longer.
Also there is a huge plot hole in the movie, as there is now double the amount of all people again, yet for the last 5 years they have only needed to grow food for the ones that din't die, so there will be world hunger for years on all planets. Not to mention all those that died because the pilot, driver, nuclear engineer and so on was snapped away will still be dead.
So there will be lots of wars and unrest in all the world, not to mention the people that came back is 5 years younger in mind and body, but would be 5 years older according to the justice system and so on, and would have been declared dead so they wouldn't have any assets either.
Unicorn Store (2017)
The movie was "free", and I still feel like I payed too much.
It was meh, best description I can get, feels like it wanted to tell a story but simply never really started to do so. I think it's sad when a movie like this is in generel you shinned by free amateur videos on youtube in both the story and the overall feel of the movie.
If you have time to spare, well still don't see this movie, go outside watch clouds, stars or rain fall and you will have spend your time on something more entertaining.
Star Trek: Discovery: The Red Angel (2019)
So painful predictable it hurts.
Not only is the writing on the lore part really bad, like they never have seen Star Trek before. But the new things are so predictable and boring that it does nothing to lift the rest of the show up, in fact it hurts it even more. It's sad to see something as great as Star Trek fall so low, right now I don't know what the fans sees in the show, it mostly seems like people are trolling with the 10/10 reviews as this is not a true score at all, meaning all the rest have to lower the score to equal it out.
I generally now think they should never have made this show, as it has hurt the IP more than anything else.
The Orville: Identity, Part II (2019)
This makes me mad I don't have a 11/10 option.
When ever you think, "Wow this was the best episode yet" this show proves you wrong and turn up the nob one more level. I mean this is stunning, well written with people you want to hang out with at any time, and even when people you don't know that well gets hurt you feel the pain like it was a family member, because this show makes every damn one on it feel like they are part of the whole story.
We need models, toys, shirts and uniforms of this to buy because this beats out today's star wars and star trek, this feels right.
Star Trek: Discovery: Saints of Imperfection (2019)
Section 31, now this is getting stupid
It really feels like the writers must have seen original trek, as they couldn't get it so wrong just by luck. They don't understand section 31 at all, and have now made it part of Starfleet and a highly know part too, even the traitors and aliens know about them, and Starfleet suddenly controls them too and give them Combadge's that won't be around for 100 years to play with too, so the super secretly organisation can flash them around and be recognized by others. Also what are really the recruitment rules for this new section 31 ?, they will take anybody in that is a threat to the Federation it seems, unlike the canon Section 31 that would remove them before people even would notice them.
Only thing that makes me not writ letters in blood to the studio is the rumors of the show already being cancelled, hopefully it will not damage the ST univers much more, and we can soon put this horrible show behind us.
The Orville: Identity (2019)
Heart, humor, mystifying and a dark path.
Again we see this show doing a sci-fi trope and kicking it up to 11 and doing it their way, this makes me so happy to see and I really hope we get to have this show for decades to come. The only mistake was to call it the Orville, as it's the name of the ship and we need a name for this univers so it can make spin offs and continue forward.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
So promissing, but yet so boring
Episode 1 was interesting, and the story of how number 1 ended where he did seems more interesting than the rest of the series.
It really just comes down to the classic trope of people not talking together and share the Knowledge they have, if they did this would only be 2 spisodes long.
There are two people that makes this better than a 2 star show, they are number 1 and number 5 that by far delivers the best acting and character building, the rest are pretty okay and then Ellen drags it down, it's like she only has one face when acting and that makes every scene with her feel like work and filler in a more interesting story.
Sad to see that the show introduce powers and then basically does really nothing with it, as ordinary people are just as capable as the "superpowered" humans.
It's not even something I would say yo people they can see if they are bored, as youtube offers better things to use your time on. This is a big pass, and I don't know how it get's all those 10/10 ratings, I am guessing it's people that work with it or are paid for it as it does not seem to be the same show we have seen.
Star Trek: Discovery: Point of Light (2019)
Boring and horrible camera work.
Firstly it shows yet again how the writers have never actually watch Star Trek before, but I had hoped they would get some lore people in at some point, seems we will still be waiting. As they show in this episode they have no understanding of Klingons, and that is why we trekkies call those abominations they have made Klinorcs, as their social, warrior and tech don't match what we know about them, let alone their appearance. We also see again how hard it is for the actors to actually act though all that latex and fake teeth, it comes of as something you would see in porn parody or fan film.
Looking at other errors we have section 31, someone forgot to tell the writers the difference between section 31 and Star fleet intelligence, because they don't seem to know that. Section 31 isn't something that is know to the public, even Starfleet does not know about them, a half human and mirror emperor sure as hell has no reason to know about them. Yet here they are, and they are even given invisibility cloaks, changing ships and badges so they can be identified. The whole lore about Section 31 was that unlike all other intelligence agencies in the galaxy, they are actually really good at not making them self know, they are all but a myth, they don't wear bagdes and don't make them self know. That is what is scary about them, they protected the Federation from even before the papir was signed, and from enemies without and within. But now they are just another branch of Starfleet it seems, and even the enemy spies know about them. So dumb.
And the boring part was again provided by Micheal and the story about her and her family, because of course it was, it always is. We already know the red angel is either her or her "brother", the famous one not the other one that the writers forgot about by saying, that the family of four could never get together. But hey we a driving with no hands on the wheel already, why not stick the head out the window too.
I was hoping that we with Pike would focus more on the ship and crew and less on the mutineer, that somehow was forgiven for starting a war that cost the Federation 75% of all their forces, that would be more than a million dead, but again who cares it's not like other people matter.
The Orville: A Happy Refrain (2019)
Not only a great story but what a view.
Not only is this the best done stories of this kind I have ever seen, but the feelings and progression have actually been there the whole time, it's not something that comes out of left field like some shows does it. Great work.
And a speciel mention of the beautiful shots we got of the ship in this episode, it really looks stunning from all angles, and really love the concert in the cargo bay with the doors open. Not only a great in lore idea, but something all people that love sfi ci what to experience them self.
Star Trek: Discovery: New Eden (2019)
Still too dumb to be trek.
It's like the writers have never seen an episode of Star Trek, or only the new movies.
They not only feel the need to explain the simplest rules of nature, but then violates those same rules not even 1 min. later. And the conversation people have are still so bad and feels forced for the most part, only the new captain is tolerable to listen too. And really hate they made a new wesley, like why it's the worst thing to do.
And in this episode they keep talking about the prime directive that are in places, yet they still break them because, well why not nothing seems to be followed anyway, as we have seen a lot of. They should have called it a reboot because they keep digging the hole deeper so it has less and less to do with the old trek.
The Orville: All the World Is Birthday Cake (2019)
The feel of Trek and the comedy of galaxy quest, whats not to like.
Really loved this episode, it feels like it could have been in any of the old trek shows, sadly not the new one as this actually have something to say about society and belief, and they only do action it seems. But here we finally get the questioned asked what if a society accepted ridicules beliefs and went with it for thousands of years, and how would they react if they are suddenly confronted with belief and sciences. Really hope there is more to come for years on :) keep it up.
Star Trek: Discovery: Brother (2019)
Still not great, and wished they would remove Micheal from the show.
It gets 6 stars from me because of the new guys, all interesting and nice to follow. Now it also get minus for Micheal still being the worst character to be on a star trek show, there is nothing likable about her and she feel so forced.
Minus for removing somebody that was interesting, and doing it in a forced way. And for the tech not fitting with the era, and they keep pushing more and more of that in. And of course it detracts from it that we still keep mixing Spock into this.
So in the end we are at 2 stars thanks to the the new captain, that feels like he belongs in star trek, they should just have made a show about him instead it seems. He is inspiring, funny and live up to Star Trek ideals, I would never see him betray a fellow officer or start a mutiny.
The Orville: Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes (2019)
Wow, just wow, no word gives it more meaning than this.
This is what sci-fy is all about, the emotions, the twist and the lore building is fantastic. You get the same feeling like watching one of the great Star Trek episodes, or movies like Enemy Mine. This has the heart and soul all the other shows seem to lack, and it has that something more hope, something we don't get to see much in shows these days, this is what I have hoped STD would have been, but I don't care anymore about Star Trek it's The Orville we need to have more of. I really hope this comes out on some blue-rays soon. And that music was spot on, sad, funny and hopeful again :)
The Orville: Home (2019)
Why are you toying with my emotions......
This was what made Star Trek great in it's day, the story within the story, and that they found a solution to a problem only to be too late or that problem taking a turn.
I must say I din't see it go dark when it did, and creepy as well. Please give us at least 7 seasons of this greatness.
Voltron: Legendary Defender (2016)
It started strong, but ended deflated and being less interesting.
The first seasons where really good, but then it started repeating it self, made the univers seem small, and kinda forgot distances and we suddenly where not traveling between systems in a galaxy, but between all galaxies, so it kinda ruined it self there on the logical scale.
Season 8 tries to be profound but is really disappointing for any anime fan, and it kinda sums up the writing in generel, it ends up being a pretty forgettable series in the end.
It's not as bad as other series, the PC culture is kept relative in check, but it does shine trough and kinda ends with the punch line, as it shows it as the only ending with any kind of personal relationship. Kinda wasted as it could just have been a subplot.
Actors are fine borderline great at sometimes, and the animation is for a western cartoon good. It's really only in the writing it lacks imagination and power. If you can watch it for free and have lots of time, then it's a okay watch for most of the seasons. But don't expect anything like great stories that keeps consistent or pan out to something great, this is Cartoon Network level of writing we are talking about, not adult or anime.
Devilman: Crybaby (2018)
Mostly meh.
It's not a great anime by any means, lots of gore and nudity, but no real story, characters or great animations. If I should guess the hype is mostly because people think it breaks the mold and do something new, but if you have watch more anime you know this is not true, I would guess that most Netflix people haven't if you go by the comments and hype about this show.
There is no real shocking scenes and the nudity and gore is mostly there to say, hey look how out there this show is, but when the story falls flat and there is no follow up on the scenes it just makes it look cheap and dull. There are many shows out there that have got more feeling with less, and that is what a great show is, ho little it needs to move your feelings or make you think. Here the plot and philosophy behind the show was as deep as a puddle, it's not trash but you really don't get much out of it, so unless you need to kill a few hours and don't mind the gore and a little nudity well then go for it.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
So predictable it hurt...
It was really easy to guess what was going to happen, it actually became kinda a game for my brother and I halfway trough, we even nailed some of the dialog by pure guessing.
The CGI and acting was okay to great depending on the actor, but there was any plot holes and bad characters trough it all.
Like the doctor that thinks blood of all carnivores is the same, if they have the same number of claws, and that it would mess up the genetics to get blood from another dinosaur. It's really bad seeing the people behind a movie knowing less about a subject than the average viewers, only people that never had any biologi or common sense would fall for that. Also don't know why they kept the doctor alive, as she was a prick too all, and din't have any more value.
Then there is the teleproting people, and the sheer number of dumb to stupid decisions that are made all from not locking a cage to people not seeing an extra truck fly trough the air and land on the boat they are on, like really.
Then there is the plot of the movie, apparently it was a good thing the park was abandon as it was doomed to be destroyed anyway by the volcano that suddenly was there. How this would cause the Dinos to be extinct I don't know, as there are two more island with Dinos on, and there got to be a lot of DNA samples around the world too. Also why build a large door to the sea, so the the larges predictor know to man can swim directly out, I would really like to meet the engineer that build this place.
ReBoot: The Guardian Code (2018)
This is bad, really bad.
Not only is this more code lyoko than ReBoot, it's also somehow worse in it's execution everything seems to lag behind the old ReBoot even the CGI. What is worse episode 10 is both a nod and an insult to old fans, mostly an insult. It even makes jokes about how the last 20 years waiting have been wasted. I hope Netflix chancels it and brings back the old format, with no Teen drama and users. Even just the old series in a HD version would be better, as it is right now it's really just below mediocre.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
3 Episode and wow it got worse, had to actually drop my score on the show
The 3 episode is just awful in all the ways, if you though the 2 pilots made little sense, boy your in for a ride.
Spoiler:
The Federation now uses slave labor in their mines, and the whole attitude of the MC has changed, not for the better. The whole point about a better engine and faster way to travel, that Discovery is trying to find is already a losing idea, we know they never make a weapon or engine to fight the Klingon with, as we have the history of the war already. They also don't know what they are looking for when bording an identical ship, with the only person that can do the sciences in tow, because why not. They find dead Klingon's all over the place, but where did they come from, as there is no Klingon ship there, did it just beam people aboard and then went on it's way ?. The there is the locks base on peoples breath, in a time where a scanner can tell who you are molecule for molecule, why ?, it makes no sense.
