Little Fires Everywhere (2020)
Great show leaving with many questions...
... and that is not a bad thing!
I see reviews asking about what the message is and being annoyed with the (not very happy) ending. For me I liked that alot. Life isn't about happy endings and there is no automatic justice for those who work hard. All four mums portrayed in this show are flawed, but they are also human. Even though I don't agree with their actions, I understand where they are coming from which is the essence of good story-telling.
I haven't read the book but will do so to get another angle of this touching drama about motherhood.
Cursed (2020)
Nah...
The show is visually entertaining, sometimes amusing but not very exciting and with very little substance. The plot seems rushed. For all that happens the show would probably span over a year but it feels like a month. Characters show up at too convenient times with too convenient knowledge or assets and it is not believable.
I binged it over a few days and it wasn't a completely waste of time, but the show could have been so much more.
The Plot Against America (2020)
Disturbing must-see in these times
I couldn't binge The plot against America because it woke up too many thoughts in me. In these days with increasing populism and racism it really strikes a nerve and there are many parallells with todays political climate, not only in the US.
The actors are really good. Especially Zoe Kazan and Winona Ryder portraying two very different but still realistic sisters.
The series is slow. At first it bugged me a little but then I started thinking that it is a good way to show how society changes. It doesn't happen over night but slowly creeps up on us, fooling us that everything still is as it should be.
The thing keeping me from giving an even higher grade is probably that some of the male characters are a bit one dimensional.
Do see this series!
Dark Waters (2019)
Great and important movie
I work with environmental guidence and regulations, including PFAS, so I was quite aware about the DuPont scandal. But seeing the movie was still very disturbing but it got so real. The film is really well made and it feels true. I was a bit worried ther they would add too much drama, outbursts in court etc, but they didn't. Instead the film manage to capture the struggle and how tiresome it must have been for Bilott, but without ever getting the slightest boring. Great acting by Mark Ruffalo all way through.
Good Omens (2019)
Wonderful story and amazing actors
I think I could watch David Tennant and Michael Sheen just talk about the weather for hours and love every minute. This is how great this duo is. Add to that a quirky Gaiman fairytale and the result is magic.
Some parts of the series could have been done with a bit more finesse, therefore it didn't get a full 10 stars but it is still a fantastic show!
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
*yawn*
I usually like fantasy and thaught the two first episodes were really promising. But as the relationship between Diana and Matthew grew the story became slower and she became weaker. A powerful witch and aclaimed academic hiding behind her boyfriend. Nah...
I watched the whole first series just to see if it would shape up but it didn't and I will probably not see season 2. Too bad for a promising theme and beginning.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Prom (1999)
This should have ended season 3
Doing a rewatch on the series and as before I get the feeling that this should have been the season ending. I never felt strongly about the mayor as supervillain and after the amazing prom episode the last two episodes is a bit ... meh.
Patrick Melrose (2018)
Future classic
I couldn't manage to read the books. I tried but the story about the boy Patrick, knowing it was based on reality, and being a mother of two boys myself was too much. But tv is another thing and I am very glad for this adaption. Episode one maybe being a bit over the top but after that it turned into one of the best family dramas I have seen. In many ways reminding me of Bridshead revisited.
Benedict Cumberbatch is amazing and so is all the other characters. I can't imagine what it took out of Hugo Weaving to play such a cruel role...
A must see and a future classic.
Jessica Jones: A.K.A. I Want Your Cray Cray (2018)
Flash-back
I loved this episode and how it fills in some gaps in the story and the characters and why they are who they are.
Lucifer (2016)
Should have ended with season 2
I really fell for this show at first but now, at season 3, it's just making me disappointed. The Kain idea could have been interesting but they messed that up by and Lucifer is just beeing childish instead of charming. If the show should go on it needs new ideas and new writers.
Grimm (2011)
For all those who miss Buffy
I finally got to see the last season. It is overall a exiting, funny and engaging show. Reminds me of Buffy with the crew fighting evil and taking care of each other. If you like your supernatural shows beeing a bit more easy-going and not so much gore this is for you.
