Misses the mark- and suicide?
11 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
If you want to see a quirky, fun, fast paced Ghost Busters- this isn't it.

It's slick and has some humor, but it's pretty dull and boring for the most part.

Most of the ghosts are gone, and the one we do get becomes a main character. Meh Oh, and one of the characters is So So So disturbed, she actually kills herself to be with her new ghost bff. After meeting her only 3 times.

This arc is just so lame, it should have been edited out and really spoils the whole movie. A Ghost Buster killing themselves, even briefly, to be with the only human type ghost we ever see.

Come on, really?

Plot is boring and predictable and where is NYC?

Heck, even the city plays second string to some lame ghost romance.

See the other ones, this is okay, if you're on an airplane maybe...

High Praise Unexpected Joy
3 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I was not familiar with this going into it, so I had zero expectations.

After watching all 8 episodes, I can say that I felt it was well done and extremely enjoyable.

It a nice fresh breath into the world of Sci-Fi, where science and psychology co-mingle.

Who are the bad guys? Do they really exist? Is it all a "scam"? Are we playing into their hands?

The "humans being humanities best ally and worst enemy" is quite on target as well.

It is nice to have to actually think about motives, players, actions, and "hints" dropped along the way. Also, it's nice to think about these creatures in a non-humanoid way and really stretch the mind of what they could be. Bi-pedal humanoids is so last decade...

Do the aliens exist? Can they not lie? Do they shrivel in the face of heat but can be animated, do they freeze and break?" The "if one of us survives we all do" seems so very prophetic.

I like to guess that relates to them being some sort of bacteria or hive minded virus that has great technology and likes to "deep fake" us.

Regardless, it's been a wonderful ride and I hope it keeps going that way.

Are all new movies just "bad"?
26 January 2024
I like the actors, but the plot, the story, is just awful.

I mean, underwater zombies, lost Kingdoms, and monsters- it's like someone just took a bunch of recent plots and tried to sew them all together. This time underwater.

Wanted to like this film, like so many others these days, but it just seems to lack what makes a good film actually "good." Seems to rely on a lot of CGI to make it look appealing, but again, that is not substitute for a well thought out, well paced, and well developed film.

I get the "tongue in cheek" nature of these films, but this one seemed to go just a little too far. Or maybe, way too far...

One disjointed film
26 January 2024
It seemed there was a lot of potential here, but it never really "got traction." The characters do not seem to have a stable identity, and just kind of go along with whatever and their personality seems to change on a whim.

As for the characters themselves, there is a severe lack of backstory and one is less well known than another.

Was this supposed to be funny, made for kids, made for adults? It seems lost in itself.

As for the story itself, "too many cooks in the kitchen" comes to mind.

Not sure about the plot, but I guess you can pick which one you like?

The term "trying too hard" also comes to mind.

Great series
7 October 2023
Really, one of the most enjoyable spin offs and series to date.

It's got questions, some answers, misdirection, confusion, and everything else that makes Loki, Loki.

Really looking forward to another season as it's a great show to get lost in.

Really enjoyed, but...
7 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Would have given it 8, but I couldn't get over therapist and divorce arc. Meaning, how utterly unethical it is for a therapist to date their patient, never mind apparently forcing them to divorce.

Sassy says that's "borderline unethical"- nope, it flat out is, and while I know it provides an "arc", the viewers deserve better.

They should have had an episode of that guy losing his license, maybe being sued and going to jail. That extreme, yeah.

That part ruined part of the show.

I did enjoy most of the character development, and how it was played out.

His sense of fairness was great and I did not see the "toxic positivity", just a guy trying to forgive, move on, and live life. And how he enriches the lives of others around him.

Don't know what it is, but can always re-watch this
15 August 2023
Not sure what it is about this movie, but it is hard to not re-watch it from time to time. Like, it is never quite enough and you are still left with questions.

Maybe it's the pacing, maybe the presence or silence of Cage's character, maybe the sheer indescribable bits, maybe it's the whole shebang, I can't say exactly what "it" is though, and that makes it really enjoyable.

Don't think it's for everyone, but this movie really does pull something special together. There seems to be a little bit of everything tossed in there, and if you can accept what you are seeing, and the sheer ludicrousness of it, then it really might be for you.

Now if I can just get a can of "Punch" and learn to crush it in that satisfying way. Oh yeah, the sound effects and cinematography were really great too.

Gritty, Dark, Powerful
15 August 2023
This movie was quite the surprise.

I wasn't sure what to expect, and it was one heck of a ride.

The power behind characters with little dialogue, and the deep drive a character to stay alive and push through because that is all they have, it really speaks volumes.

It is cold, unsettling, sad, and showcasing a great sickness. The characters were great and while there were "good and bad" there were also ones that left you wondering. The fog of war indeed and how people can be forever changed due to its horrors.

I look forward to watching it again, and I would certainly suggest giving it a chance.

Heck Yeah
15 August 2023
It is a wonderful flick that will entertain, amaze, and make you wonder just how many other films influenced it.

From the start, it shows you exactly what it is, and stays true to form until the very end. I mean, those "cows" at the end? Ha!

This movie really has no limits and I applaud everyone who put their time and effort into this film.

I will say it isn't for the squeamish, but that's also what makes it so darn fun to watch. No "dialing it down" or trying to appease, it goes and it goes where it wants. I have to say, one of the more entertaining films I have seen in a long time, and that is saying a lot.

Give it a watch, it was worth it.

Did I watch a different movie?
8 July 2023
Hands down the most unimpressive GG to date.

The best part was Rocket's story. And the end.

Most of film just seemed contrived, with poor pacing. Lots and lots of yelling, anger, and just didn't seem to come together like the last films.

Not sure what happened, but it just didn't seem able to "find itself." Sure, there were new characters, which helped, but the main cast just seemed uninterested, lacking that chemistry that made the first two so great. Heck, the Christmas episode blew this one away. Even the laughter of Drax wasn't enough to keep this afloat.

Not sure how anyone could rate this above a 7, not only as a standalone, but especially as part of such a wonderful series. It was, dare I say, boring- with the exception of Rocket and the last few minuets.

Fun, but not really fun
20 June 2023
Was a good movie, a fun way to waste some time and find a little bit of nostalgia. That being said, I cannot believe anyone would score this over a 7, unless they were being paid?

Had its good and not so good points.

Kong, for me, was by far biggest star in the movie.

Given the extremely rich history of not just Super Mario's character base, but even its soundtracks, I was hoping to hear/see/feel some more of that magic weaved into this film.

Overall, I would watch it again, and it does provide some good entertainment at times.

I would also say the setup is just a bit too long, but maybe we'll get a sequel to this film and the possibilities are endless.

What happened?
17 April 2023
I used to really enjoy this show.

Sure, was a bit far fetched and had to suspend a lot of disbelief, but I like Queen Latifah.

Recently, however, it just seemed to "jump the shark." Episodes seem to have become too contrite and lacking of any real plot.

Shame, because it was pretty enjoyable for a time.

Maybe it will find itself again, but as long as it seems phoned in and "shallow", will be hard to watch.

I did enjoy the acting, but even that seems to have become forced and artificial. Not sure what happened, but the heart of the show seems to have been lost and I hope it can find itself again.

What was that supposed to be?
12 April 2023
First off, I was hopeful but rather disappointed.

It was very, very hard to tell if it was the character who was supposed to be angry and brooding, or if it was the actor Adam.

It felt disconnected and disjointed, and the struggle just seemed hollow, for lack of a better term.

At no point was it very memorable and even now, a few days later, I cannot recall most of it. Paced too quickly, too slowly, too much going on, too little going on?

Regardless, it felt pretty messy and I kept getting the feeling that no one really wanted to be there. Kind of like everyone involved just kind of phoned it in for this one.

Wow and Wow
12 April 2023
Just saw this and I was amazed. What a great movie overall.

It sums up darkness, struggle, and a Gotham post Batman. Along with a version of Bruce never really portrayed.

This is one I will be happy to rewatch and it never bores. The film put together such a wonderfully complex array of characters and motivations, shows the humanity and struggle, along with the ineptness and obliviousness many people seem to embrace.

It even does a good job making Superman look like a "punk" and one not deserving of such a title.

This movie has it all, and is certainly not for those who struggle to watch violence or fast paced action.

The lines between good and bad are blurred beyond comprehension in this one, and it makes for one heck of a ride.

Might be good, if you are a child
12 April 2023
I am unsure what the point of this movie was.

It was not entertaining and pretty disappointing.

Perhaps if you are a kid and like these kinds of superpower movies?

Really, it was just missing fart jokes.

I was pretty hopeful given the first one, but somehow this went totally off the rails.

Even the acting seem wooden and somehow a lot of the movie felt cheap. One could almost see the green screen at times.

The plot forgettable, and watching one could certainly understand cheering for the "bad guys." Not even sure there was potential in this, and whatever it was supposed to be, it was not.

Solid Overall
1 April 2023
A very enjoyable anti-hero movie.

Having watched it a few times on long flights I have to say there is always something new to pick up on and enjoy.

It is gritty, and even bold in many instances.

The casting and acting is well done, and I think people need to look past the "Marvel" nature of this film, even though he is DC Universe, and may find it is not your typical "superhero" movie.

Hopefully there will be more of these "darker" films as the "always right" and "good guy forever" films tend to get a bit boring and presumptive.

You can stop reading now as I still, for some reason, need to type more for my "quota."

Hard Watch, second review
1 April 2023
Upon watching it again, somehow it seems even "worse." Like it was a film that didn't need to be made.

Seems lazy, the plot trite and rehashed from other movies.

In a positive note, without sound, it makes a nice screen saver.

If you liked Avatar, the first one, you might want to skip this one.

This one has everything the original didn't which it might be why it's so hard to watch.

The first half hour goes from "paradise" to "war", with the same old tired cliches being used that have made very other movies stale.

I guess it took decades to make, but I am unsure why that might have been.

Also, just too many plot holes, and too much "suspend disbelief" moments in a movie that seems too slow, yet somehow too rushed at the same time.

I was falling asleep by the first 45 minutes and had to take breaks watching it as it did not "pull me in", not even close.

Lastly, and I almost forgot, Jake is pretty much the only person who can fight back, yet he retreats and basically dooms the planet.

Could have just dropped his family off, but then I guess we would have missed all the visuals.

Same movie, new scenes, same bad guys, same story.

Just Rewatched it, with the last season
15 November 2022
I think there have been mixed reviews due to the time it took to get the last season out.

There was so much excitement, but then to leave it off without a conclusion was likely difficult for many, it was for me.

Now that you can watch it fully, with the last season, and without interruption, I highly recommend it.

Unlike many shows, this one just seems to get better with age, and I haven't watched it years.

Even knowing the ending it was superb and highly enjoyable.

The characters, script, sound, imagery, excitement and everything else just really seem to shine even brighter than before.

Watch it, rewatch it- this is one you will not be disappointed with.

Brutal, but not in a fun way
30 October 2022
Not sure what that was about, but we tried to enjoy it for Halloween.

Also, not sure what's going on with the company making these, but this seemed like another poorly composed movie, which seems to be happening more and more. The characters were lackluster at best, and the movie seemed disorganized, and really lacking in any "spirit".

Just a shame, but it was hard to watch and not enjoyable.

I would say to watch the first one, and leave this one alone. It isn't really much like it's predecessor, though I could see why people thought is was. It does have the same actresses after all, but that is about it.

A lot of fun, but then there's Miko
5 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A really fresh and new take on The Transformers.

New animation and new graphics, plus addition of new characters have been really enjoyable to watch.

Even the continuing Megatron and Starscream "saga" has been reinvented, to a degree, and interesting to behold.

Even having human kids interacting has been fun, but there is one big issue.

That would be the character Miko.

At first, like the rest, she seemed fun and entertaining, but as the series continued her character really devolved. I am unsure what the writes were going for, but her continued impulsiveness, selfishness, and narcissistic tendencies continued to put everyone in danger, almost getting everyone killed multiple times. Don't worry though, her actions are quite costly in many ways. Not only was this not addressed, but she never seemed to change. Her behavior was borderline oppositional defiant, a type of sociopathology, where she shows not only a total disregard for authority, but almost contempt for it at times. It is was neither fun nor entertaining, but upsetting to watch. She bullies her way around, both the Autobots and the humans. I can overlook Ralf understanding Bumblebee, a Decepticon clone army, Optimus trying to do what is painfully right, the "evil humans" trying to construct something way out of their league", but this characters nonsense was just too much. It acted like a distraction, not an addition. I kept waiting for them to reveal she was actually some Decepticon spy.

Ummm, maybe good for kids?
15 September 2022
Just doesn't seem to "land".

Despite the wonderful actors, it seems lazy, has too much going on, and is also somehow rushed.

Also seems like someone thought Jar Jar Binks was a great idea, and made a new movie with that character idea in mind. That and Thor is apparently back to his childlike attitude and hasn't matured at all, mostly blundering around and seeming lost. A far cry from the character he had become, especially after his fathers death.

Possibly one of the worst films in the franchise, sadly- unless you are a child maybe?

Maybe this was just directed at kids, trying to entice a new generation of fans.

While I cannot speak to the future, I can say this movie left a lot to be desired and was not even close to the excellence of (most) the previous movies.

Heck, even the CGI seemed "low budget" at times.

While I was excited to see this, it's a hard pass to watch again and I'm surprised it ever made it off the editing floor.

Enjoyable if muddled
10 September 2022
So far, the series seems to be "finding itself' and is struggling to do that.

A host of new characters and new drives makes this interesting, if not a little trite at times.

One has to wonder of they are going for a LOTR series, or a Game of Thrones vibe.

It is visually stunning, introducing whole other worlds and dynamics, though it also seems a bit forced. Maybe that is because there is just so much going on at once it can be hard to recall everything all the time. Also seems that the visuals paper over character development at times, with lots of "noise" but little beyond that in terms of understanding the importance of what we are seeing.

Looking forward to seeing how it develops, where the rings come from, whose "bright idea" that is, and a lot of other character development, but still is not as riveting as I was hoping. Then again, this all seems like one very long set-up, so I would imagine that could change as we get further along.

Quite possibly one of the worst
6 September 2022
This is quite possibly one of the worst movies I have seen in some time.

It is "Jurassic Park" in name only, because it only has dinosaurs.

Evil businessman, sure, completely believable. Wanting to control the works and ultimate power, sure, I can see that. The rest is just lame.

A dull and confused movie that seems to have little bearing on the wonderful movies that came before it.

I am not sure what this is about, but it's clearly not a movie that true to the name.

-Stop reading here, seriously

I need 600 characters? Here are more because I have nothing left to add and don't want to dilute what is said. I guess I could ramble on and on, but that's unfunny and insipid. Lalalalalalalalalalalalalalala.

Wonderfully shot and acted
5 September 2022
Wonderful movie that takes on the instagram fame culture, the idea of trying to live life to the fullest and not fear death while overcoming fears yet at the same time putting one's life in extreme jeopardy, while dealing with loss and desperation, all from 2,000 feet above the planet.

It was riveting while making my hands sweat and at times as you can almost feel yourself trapped up there with them.

Will be showing this at my next Halloween party, in the dark.

The actresses did a great job as well and "sold" this performance. I thought one portrayed the fearlessness that comes with youth, the feeling of invincibility, while the other represented and recognized just how precious and fragile life could be and the duality between them.

Even the ending was unexpected and I really enjoyed how this movie did so much, with very little. One of the few news films where I was very much interested in the characters and ending.

Strongly recommend, even if you are afraid of heights.

Unfortunately, maybe a good cult classic
29 August 2022
As many have said, it may be a commentary on society today. And if you want that, watch his version of The Twilight Zone. It has subtle and not so subtle societal commentary.

As for these movies, it does feel like an M Night Shamlan situation. There was one great movie, and the rest have been lacking that "it" factor.

This movie was just too slow and really did not hold one's attention or interest, sadly. I am unsure what the point of this flick was either as it seemed a mashup of several genres, but didn't really tie itself together in any cohesive manner. Perhaps that was the point though, ending on a Clint Eastwood type vibe. Perhaps a good cult classic in the future.

I thought it had a lot of potential, but just kept fumbling along and never really "found itself". I really wanted to like it though.
