#Horror (2015)
Well that was a mistake
Holy hell! What a waste of a movie. There are so many things wrong with this that I have a problem knowing where to start. I suppose we can start with the glaring issue. This movie is a mix of Mickey Mouse Club, Scream, and To Catch a Predator. Its a movie that consist of 12 year old girls being stalked and slashed to death.
Even though the basic plot of 12 year olds being brutally killed isn't something that I was overly excited to get to, it took what felt like an entire movie to develop the characters. The constant and sudden flashes of a cellphone was more than obnoxious after minute 15 of the movie.
Just. Don't. Watch. This. Movie.
The Veil (2016)
Jump Scares for Lack of Substance
I can see where they were trying to go with this movie and where they fell short. At first, I loved the concept and basic direction. But then the movie's plot holes and overall less than stellar writing make its appearance. At times I was almost offended how the director apparently assumed that the audience is stupid.
On the opposite side of that coin, the movie has an all-star cast of great supporting characters. Lily Rabe basically just brings her AHS character over but it fits well. Meegan Warner is just as believable and talented as she is in Turn. Shannon Woodward really steals almost every scene she is in. Alba is serviceable in the movie while Jane is guilty of overacting at times.
Overall its not the worst horror ever but with the cast, it falls way short of its potential. It fell into the same trap many horror movies do, relying on jump scares to overshadow bad writing.
Absolutely Anything (2015)
Not terrible...but not great
This movie did a lot of things right, but also failed on many levels. Kate Beckinsale is a wonderful actor and is usually a great leading lady. Unfortunately, her work in this movie came off as forced and generic. Simon Pegg delivers as best he can without Nick Frost. I felt like the movie overall was an "R" rated Bruce Almighty but instead of God, we got Scientology. Not a bad watch but you really do not want to watch it expecting Shuan of the Dead or Hot Fuzz.
