Poseidon (2006)
Nicely done
Poseidon takes place on New Year's Eve on a ship which is, incidentally, called Poseidon. A monstrous wave slams into the ship and turns it upside down. A small group of people form together to find a way out, ignoring the warnings of the officers. Well, what do you know? The officers were wrong. 6 people make it out together in the end.
This film had some really cool special effects. Besides the wave turning the ship over, there were plenty of explosions to satisfy any fire-freak. Not to mention all the crash-bang-smash-kaboom paraphernalia.
The only things I felt were not extremely realistic, was the fact that as soon as the survivors jumped out of the boat, there was an inflatable life-raft floating there waiting for them. Also, as soon as they got on the raft, the ship sank. Right out from under them.
I also don't like how Hollywood makes it a point to put in a homosexual and have him survive just to send a message of acceptance to the viewers. But that's Hollywood for you.
But I definitely enjoyed this film. Full of action. Kept me on my toes.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Nicely done
Okay. Definitely NOT the scariest movie I've ever seen. But I still liked the whole idea and setting. I'm sure you all know what it's about so I won't give a summary of the story, but maybe some guidelines.
DO NOT (I repeat) DO NOT... let young children watch this film! It will scare them senseless. I myself would have been scared of it only a few years earlier. But suddenly, hitting my mid-teens, I'm not very scared of movies anymore. But this is the sort of movie that will definitely scare a little kid.
The goriness is minimal. Sort of like Jaws. Nowhere near as bad as Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And some of the violence is overdone almost to the point of corniness. Like, about 400 gallons of blood spewing up from the bed where a young man was pulled down to his death. C'mon. There was enough blood for like five people in that shot. But anyway.
There is NO NUDITY. YAY! Nudity only detracts from a films value. Had there been nudity, my rating would have been an automatic 4 or less, regardless of the other content. There is implied sex however, accompanied with some very exaggerated "sounds" from the bedroom. It almost sound like someone is getting killed. lol.
Also, you might not want to watch this right before bed. Heck, even the bravest people can get nightmares. You have no control over your subconscious.
All in all. A pretty cool movie.
The Uninvited (1996)
It was okay.
I saw this movie on TV last Halloween. I'm not saying it was a bad movie but then again I'm not saying it was good either. It was just okay.
I was hoping to see something really creepy and scary and that's NOT what I got. The story was pretty good, it had one or two spooky moments but it was not a scary movie. And I'm a person that scares very easily. It also had a sort of a cheeseball ending too. The effects were good but it was over done and it just wasn't that cool. But it was interesting.
I haven't seen very many scary movies in my lifetime. Not as many as I would like to anyway. But this definitely wasn't a movie I would buy.
