Rise of Empires: Ottoman (2020)
Well made, but...
There were some historical inaccuracies, and that ruined the show for me.
Why, oh, why, do we see a tour guide giving historical info? She talks about the sultanate of women, when that started during the rule of Suleyman, with Hurrem Sultan? Gulbahar Hatun would never be the most powerful woman in the empire, what was that about? She would be the mother of the sultan, a valide, and she would rule the Harem, not the country.
Why are the turks portrayed as rightful, while people defending their lands are seen as evil?
This is a work of fiction, with some truth sprinkled here and there, by real historians, take it as it is, enjoy the actors, and move on.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)
No, just no.
I watched all the movies in the past week, and this was the most boring, predictable and annoyingly bad out of all. The whole franchise is a money cow, and they did this one just for momey, because people would still buy tickets to see Jack Sparrow. Sorry, captain!
The only character I liked was Salazar, and Bardem is, as usual, brilliant. I suspect he was the only one thoroughly enjoying his character. The star is for Bardem.
I loved the first 3, really did. 4 was good enough. This was awful.
Out of all things that defied logic, and there were a lot, there's Will Turner's son, on sea, being kidnapped and whatnot, and The Dutchman is nowhere to be seen.
It took me 3 days to finish it, I kept pausing in order to watch other things.
I read Depp is reprising his role, hope he gets better writers.
Inside Man (2022)
2 episodes in and...
I suspect the best story will come from Ben, who goes to a concert and comes home disappointed. I'd watch his whole story, instead of this.
10 min in, first episode and you understand you're taken for a fool. Vicar's wife, the character, is as useless as it can get. The guy in prison somehow understands, from a blurry picture, that someone, across the ocean, has a 9:00 PM Skype call. The same guy, in prison, has access to phone calls anytime he pleases. The journalist can fly between US and UK, anytime, trying to write a story she doesn't know anyone might want to read or publish.
The vicar is troubled that a pedophile might want to kill himself after being exposed, so he goes to extra lengths to keep him safe, but he's fine with keeping a woman in his cellar, handcuffed to a pipe, covered in wounds (that he does nothing for).
Who gave the ok for this? Why?
The Crown (2016)
Season 5.
My review refers strictly to season 5. There's no chemistry, none at all between the characters. Almost everyone looks out of place, badly cast, like they were on their way back from the market, and somebody asked them to play in a movie for a while. The script just doesn't do them justice.
There was a certain continuity between the interpretations of Foy and Colman, now, there's nothing. That is a new person, who uses words like "on bended knee", and has far too many facial movements to express displeasure.
The only one I enjoy watching, is E. Debicki as Diana, and the children playing the princes.
It's a shame, as I greatly enjoyed the first 4 seasons, to feel relieved that this is the last one.
Friends from College (2017)
Loved it.
This was fun to watch and still is. I loved the show, first time, and still love it now. It is light, funny and easy to watch. I had the feeling that whatever maturity level you were expecting to get, 20 years after college, wouldn't always come. And that's ok.
I am watching it again, for the third time, I've recommended to my friends.
Spencer (2021)
Terrible.
I pushed myself through to see the whole movie, hoping that my first impression is wrong. I shouldn't have. I hated it from the first scene of Diana speaking. She came across as childish and spoiled. She walks like she's on strings.
They haven't decided if she should talk normally or whisper so they asked her to do both in the same time. That tilt of the head Diana used to do, is overused. It almost gives you the impression that it was all they knew of her.
She was a complex woman, one that did a lot of growing during the last years of her marriage. Sadly, it is not shown here.
30 de ani de democratie (2019)
Masterpiece
Very well made, documented and interesting.
I always watch documentaries by Recorder, they never disappoint.
It is a must for all who lived through those times, nostalgics and the new generations.
Flavours of Romania (2017)
Good documentary.
This is a wonderful series, informative, exceptional scenery. Loved it.
The only reason that I did not give 10 stars, is, as someone mentioned before, there's no mention about the hungarian culture (for the Transilvania episodes), also the turkish-tatar culture when it came to Dobrogea episode. Romania is a multicultural country, Dobrogea is a model for it mixture of ethnicities, it's a shame that is not mentioned. Every village has a mosque, some dating back to 1500, it's so unfair that it's not mentioned.
When They See Us (2019)
This is a must!
There's no words that could do justice to this show. Acting is brilliant, all of them did a great job. You'll laugh, cry and it will break your heart in million pieces.
I am watched all episodes today, and I read about the case and I'll watch whatever documentaries there are.
Ava DuVernay has made a work of art!
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
The weakest Harry Potter movie until now.
I saw the movie and I think it is the weakest HP movie until now. Mike Newell really made a mock of the book and characters. And there are differences between the book and the movie which can't be explained in the future movies. What is Barty Crouch Jr doing in the beginning of the movie? Where is Dobby and the other house-elf? And so many inaccurate things that I can't remember all. I read the book many times and hoped that the movie will be great too, but it's not even good. I would like to see Peter Jackson directing one of the future HP movies. He proved he's capable with LOTR, I am curious what he would do with HP.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Weak Lion, Witch and Wardrobe...
I think it was a weak movie. I saw it and I was disappointed. It is the weakest movie among its kind. I saw a lot of classic scenes, the hero on a white horse, the wicked witch of the west trying to take over a kingdom, the snitch who was forgiven, the good wise character offering himself for sacrifice for the snitch...and so on. I thought that Lord of the Rings had set a standard (clearly for me it really did), and movie makers had learned a lesson from Peter Jackson. If you want to make a movie using special computer effects, make sure they're so good that people don't know the difference between real natural scenery and computer created scenery. Not a movie to be seen twice.
