Idiocracy (2006)
No wonder this didn't get a wide release
In a few words, this movie is just not that funny. It is actually pretty damn boring. When I first heard about this movie, I thought to myself, "Now that sounds funny." I was wrong. While channel surfing one morning after a night of reindeer games, I happened across this "gem" of a film I had read was flat out funny. All I saw was ridiculous situations and just your usual, "My God you are stupid" jokes. Now I understand that I will never be a fan of Mike Judge because I have never EVER found anything he has done to be humorous at all. I wanted to like this film because it had every chance in the world of being incredibly funny and being a classic i would want to relive every month or so. However, I was wrong. After sitting through this waiting for the funny to happen, I realized I was waiting for a dinosaur to come around the corner. I was waiting for something that would never happen.
And I don't blame the stars. The performances were OK, nothing memorable, but it just never caught on. This is just one of those movies that did not work at the end of the day.
Resident Evil (2002)
Resident Evil? More like Resident Laser
The movie was suppose to be based off the hit video game Resident Evil in which you play members of a special group in a mansion fighting off zombies and other chemically enhanced monsters. In this movie, our specially trained highly equipped special forces are killed by......lasers. More than half of the team is taken out and honestly, the monster madness isn't really much. This movie was pretty ridiculous. I thoroughly hated the movie. It is not faithful and it is not even a good adaptation of the games. The script is pretty silly. The action is god awful. The story itself is written by a monkey of a man as well as directed by one. I don't think this movie is very good for anyone. Even the blind would be offended. Weak acting from Milla Jovovich and bad acting from anyone else. So basically, go outside for a long job before you even think of watching this movie. It would do you a lot better.
300 (2006)
Visual beauty, but the dialog is what grips me
Many people love this movie because the fight scenes are visually interesting. To me, it is great film because of the dialog. This movie is quotable for many situations. Whether you use it as a joke or you use it as a threat against someone.
Truly this movie makes you want to stand up and go to war for your country because it does rip at your emotions. I don't mean that is a war hawk sense, but in a way that it just jacks you up for anything. Frank Miller is a master of writing and this has to be his best work that does not focus on his love for call girls. His skills here are brought to full power in this masterpiece of the written and spoken language.
Of course, these speeches and quotes are only as powerful as the person giving them and Gerard Butler delivers them like no one else ever could. He proves himself as a leading actor in this role and you would follow him into Hell itself with the way he commands attention.
Alien³ (1992)
Watch the Directors' Cut!
I saw the original cut many years ago when one my friends brought it over. I was bored and frankly, felt the film was pretty weak. I was never a horror fan and I felt this just didn't make me care at all. However last summer, my friend brought over his directors' cut copy of this movie and begged for me to give it another chance so I did.
I was blown away at how much better this movie was. I actually cared about the characters and was blown away at how much better the movie was. I did not want this movie to end because i felt they really had a good handle on this one. It felt a lot like the first one. More suspense and less action. Now mind you, my favorite of the series is Aliens because of the action, but this movie really grabbed a hold on me and did not let go. Do not let the length shy you off because you won't feel it by the end. The movie has so much more emotion in it and after viewing this the second time became a favorite of mine which will sit in my library. 8 out of 10 and it ever so deserves it. why the studio cut it down so much in the first place, I'll never understand. Great movie
Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)
What a fun movie...To watch really late at night with a bunch of friends
I wanted this movie late one night with a friend. It was on some movie channel and we had nothing better to do. At the very beginning we knew we were in for a treat. Every time an action piece occurred it was like we were watching the entire plot for a new movie. It was like the most epic piece of crap I had ever seen. I was amazed at how hard they had tried to make every scene so epic and important. We were rolling on the floor. Plus the entire plot can be summed up "Boat can't stop." Much similar to the Speed before it "Bus can't stop" but without the good action and enjoyable popcorn feeling. This movie is pretty bad. Watch it with some friends one night when you need a good laugh.
Traveler (2007)
What a cool program
Last night, I caught the sneak preview of the new ABC show "Traveler" which is about three friends who go on a two month road trip on for two of them to be betrayed by their one friend and set up for an act of terrorism. Now on the run from the law, they must figure out who their friends was and why he set them up.
This was a fast and fun program. I look forward to following it in the coming months and I think ABC may have a super fun journey for the summer. I highly recommend that anyone who is looking for a new Thursday night fast pace thriller check out Traveler. It is full of a few twist and turns, but is a little predictable. I get a similar feel of the Fugitive from this show so who knows? It could turn into one of those total American summer thrill rides in which everyone tunes in just to see what will happen next.
Travler airs May 30 at 9/8 Central on ABC. Check local listing for further listings.
