Viskningar och rop (1972)
Not THAT great
Yes, it's beautiful, brilliantly acted and slow - typical of Bergman's works. But, at the same time, it's an odd film for me, because it never really gets there... You know?
Just like his other works, Bergman cuts deep and goes way beyond the surface with the script, meanwhile experimenting with color, light, framing and staging - and other elements related to the Form. It's a dialog and detail based piece of film, using lots of "empty spaces" and silence, thus making a very slowed paced and contemplative work of art.
Even though it's a good film, it gets boring at times. I didn't felt the depth of character contained in Through a Glass Darkly & Winter Light, for example, present here in Cries and Whispers - even though it spends a lot of time with those three characters: it's a lot of suffering, crying, subtle dialogs - but, at the end, it doesn't really reach a most significant level to stimulate mind and heart satisfactiorily.
Good film, nonetheless.
Ukigusa (1959)
Outstanding visuals; apathic script
Ok, Roger Ebert, one of your ten favorite films of all times? Damn...
This is my first experience with Yasujiro Ozu, and although i rated Floating Weeds as a 5 out of 10 stars, i wasn't bothered with the artistical elements of the film neither dissapointed with what i was seeing, on the contrary: i was fairly impressed: the shots, the mise-en-scène, the overall feeling of the movie made a good impression on me.
But it wasn't enough, since the story is neither compelling or funny. The script is superficial, banal and apathic, and, honestly, if brought to screen by a more shrewd and well paced director, it could have turned out a more impactful work of art.
Remember Me (2010)
Cliche romance movie done right.
It feels like you've seen this type of movie and characters dozens of times before, but this one does everything right with a compeling cast, well executed cliches and a genuinely surprising ending.
Ally, the female lead character, could have been more profound and well developed due to her complicated past traumas, but this doesn't really bothers. Robert Pattinson (as always) shines in a intricate rebel character, despite the main relationship seeming to have a lack of romantic mingling at first, but resolving later.
After all, a worthwhile movie to sit back and let it carrie you, unpreoccupied.
Skammen (1968)
Intimate war movie
Not a movie for everyone.
Slow paced, personal and theather-like script - typical of Ingmar Bergman's writing and directing style. Both main characters have depths which we speculate upon and observe through their idiosyncrasys, juxtaposed with the cold, relentless and chaotic "external world" that, brutally and heartlessly, forces them and their relationship to undergo a number of harsh events. The pessimistic view about humanity and life makes this a penetrating, heart-breaking work of art.
Although i enjoyed the picture, it felt like it lacked something to enter the list of one of Bergman's best films. Probably related to the unnecessary extension of some sequences and rhythym.
Glass Onion (2022)
Exciting comedy wannabe
I'm absolutely sure that this is the kind of film that's going to be entirely forgotten by everyone in 50 years, except by the fact that there's a bunch of famous actors working together in here - and that's it.
Of course this was directed and written by Rian Johnson, the guy that destroyed the new star wars trilogy, right? The only thing that's funny in here is it's script trying SO HARD to be intricate, intelligent and funny at the same time. The director's choices in relation to shots, editing, cinematography, rhythm, etc, are cringe and edgy; it feels like they all came from a to-do list givem by the producer to make a popular, comercial, "relevant" and awesome! Movie.
At least, we got some voluptuous women in bikinis, nice beaches and rich people dresses (which is always cool, at least for me). And Dave Bautista.
