Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Thank you for ruining every Star Wars story line that ever meant anything.
Disaster. This franchise should have ended with Return of the Jedi.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
A reboot by any other name ...
A good movie in its own right, though casting of Adam Driver as Kylo Ren was hideous. Guess they had to have one pretty boy for the kiddies but there's more charisma in the mask than the character. A few plot holes as well but overall not bad.
The problem is, it's basically a reboot of the original trilogy with enough homage thrown over it to keep the fan base from rioting. Rey makes an excellent - if rushed - heroine, and Daisy Ridley commands every scene she's in - even when sharing screen time with the usually indomitable Harrison Ford.
Unfortunately the story also left us set up for a pretty obvious reboot of Episodes 5 and 6 in the upcoming movies. It was a thrill to see another Star Wars movie in the vein of the original trilogy, but ultimately I'd hoped for a continuation, not a reboot.
Atlas Shrugged II: The Strike (2012)
New cast makes this one not nearly as good.
The pace of Part 2 was much better than Part 1, but then that's true of the book as well. Didn't think much of the new cast nor the new look - it's as if the producers tried to glam it up to make this one look more appealing than the first - for example all the female characters were well endowed and showed it off needlessly, including a very cheap scene with Dagny early on. On the subject of Dagny, the actress in that role was terribly miscast - too old for the character, and she had a very bloated look which probably looked worse than it was because of the slim, trim Dagny we saw in Part 1. Acting was well short of the first. Overly dramatic at times and poorly acted in general. Bader turned in a good performance in a small role, as did the rail line worker Dagny spoke to alongside the train near the end. By far the most believable character in the film. Too bad, I think the original cast would have done a good job with this story.
