Foyle's War: Plan of Attack (2008)
Season 5, Episode 1

the motet the choir is rehearsing . . .
24 November 2012
. . . is Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus.

I wish they had a Catholic priest adviser for this episode. The following mistake would have been caught and remedied:

The church was not decorated in the way an RC church would look at the time.

There would have been a tabernacle on the altar.

The monstrance would not be on the altar without lit candelabra to either side.

No choir would think of rehearsing with their backs to the monstrance.

Men and women in a choir would be separated from each other.

Father Keppler would have worn his biretta in the top of his head, not toward the back of his head.

Inspector Lewis: Wild Justice (2011)
Season 5, Episode 2
4/10
Can they portray religious themes more accurately and sympathetically?
26 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I love "Inspector Lewis"; but I am growing less and less satisfied with the portrayal of religion, especially Christianity, in the series. Yes, the UK is post-Christian and all that, but greater fastidiousness is also characteristic of British sensibilities.

Yes, "Wild Justice" correctly distinguishes friars from monks and correctly identifies Saint Gerard's College as a permanent private hall.

A little digging would have uncovered the fact that Gerard was an eighteenth-century Italian saint, a sentimental favorite patron of expectant mothers but hardly in the same intellectual league with Dominic of Blackfriars or Benedict of Saint Benet's Hall.

But the carrying of a monstrance, without any of the trappings of adoration, at the head of an academic procession is upsetting to RC sensibilities. This RC professor of theology was upset, anyway.

Surely the producers and art directors could have asked for some trustworthy advice in these matters. Hathaway's character deserves better.

Doctor Finlay (1993–1996)

the contents of set two of Doctor Finlay
21 July 2006
Set Two contains the following episodes: "A Delicate Balance," "Childsplay," "Stolen Lives," "Burning Bridges," Secrecy," and "In Arcadia."

Perhaps another fan can tell us which episodes to look for, to hope for the DVD release of.

My wife and I are enjoying all three sets so much. I was able to read Russell Baker's script of his introductions to series two on the Masterpiece Theatre website.

Can anyone suggest where I might find more material on "Doctor Finlay"?

I'd love to see a website devoted to "Doctor Finlay" as good as the one for "Foyle's War."
