Dune: Part Two (2024)
Amazing.
Aside from some of the changes from the book unfortunately to fit the era we live in today... Dune Part 2 was absolutely amazing. Denis Villeneuve, outdid himself and the cast was at the top of their games. I didn't know if Timothée Chalamet could pull it off, but he was excellent. It was crazy to see how off the rails he went by the end. Hans Zimmer as always brought the world to life through his score. Rebecca Ferguson was amazing. Austin Butler was frightening. I will gladly sit through movies this long if they have this amount of world building, character development and depth. Intense especially as we neared the end.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Entertaining but a step back from its predecessor...
I'll keep it short and simple. Fallout was one of the best action movies ever and a hard one to beat, and this movie just couldn't do it. Yes it was entertaining and didn't have me feeling bored, but it didn't have the impact of the last film. It honestly felt like it was becoming borderline "Fast and Furious" with over the top, unrealistic spectacles and physic defying stunts (yes, I know Mission Impossible is not realistic, but it's stayed reasonably believable over the past few films). And on top of that, the action sequences are drawn out too long (for example the train falling off the bridge).
In the end it just did not have the emotional impact it should have, especially in regard to Ilsa Faust. Spoiler: they kill her off. What? Why? They built up her character quite well over the past two movies, and to just take her out like that? Totally missing the emotional weight it should have had. Other reviews express the same.
Overall still intertaining and maybe part two will make it better, but I finished it feeling, well... a little sad.
Hawkeye (2021)
I love Hawkeye as a character, but this...
This was a bit lame. Very childish and poor script. Bad acting all over. Not a great plot. Too many characters doing too many different things. Characters that seem to be going somewhere with the story but then really go nowhere.
A lot of the other reviews say it well...
A Week Away (2021)
Had a bit of potential but failed miserably...
Had a bit of potential in the Christian film genre but failed miserably...
Firstly - theology - where was Jesus Christ in the camp's message? All they ever talked about is feeling good and God is doing great things. When it comes to Christian films there are definitely preachy ones but this is far from it. Totally missed anything pertaining to the gospel.
Secondly, the teen romance was insanely annoying. You only have a week kids! Have at it! Where were the camp's rules? LOL, the camp leader's daughter was all over the guy! Apparently there was some sort of dress code, judging from the swimming scenes, but that was about it.
I guess just don't take this movie seriously haha...
Gattaca (1997)
Very interesting, thought provoking
Enjoyed till just before the end.
I don't understand why Jerome thought he had to kill himself, that just made it really depressing for me.
The Princess Bride (1987)
Possibly the greatest movie of all time
Ok, maybe not the greatest movie, but come on. It's such a classic. Probably the most quotable movie in history. Definitely a must see. If you don't have a good time watching it... I don't know what to say.
Bringing Up Bates (2015)
Great Family. Good Show.
Not everyone's thing, but overall it's a good show.
This family has a lot of haters, but people hate what they can't have. If it's not your thing that's ok, but just raise some good children before you criticize others for their beliefs.
I myself don't agree with a lot of their choices, but I can say this family is sweet and they really love and respect one another.
