Mothering Sunday (I) (2021)

Firth and Colman Yes, the Rest...
10 July 2023
The scenery is incredible, as is the performances of Colin Firth and Olivia Colman.

The rest of the movie is incredibly disjointed, and because there is no actual emotion or feeling between the two main characters, Odessa Young and Josh O'Connor, it quickly became annoying. There is only so much cigarette smoking a person can watch before you realize, I suppose, this is the point where the viewer is supposed to be emotionally touched. The problem is, I wasn't. Ever.

This felt like going to a beautiful restaurant and waiting so long for your meal that by the time it's gets there you want to throw the plate on the floor.

Much of the movie is beyond belief, such as the maidservant (who, between the wars, works for the wealthy Niven family), wandering naked through a manor house, seemingly unconcerned that the owners may show up...for over an hour.

At every turn, I kept thinking, here it is, we must be getting to the point...but 'the point' simply never happened.

A waste of talent and scenery, however it is worth watching simply for the performances of Firth and Colman. They are outstanding.

Ok, 20 minutes in...
14 March 2023
Actually thought this might be a parody, so I waited it out... for 20 minutes, which was all I could stand.

Seriously? It's incredible to believe that someone, somewhere, thought this was worth giving a title to.

Bruce Willis, I guess, was already ill when this came out. It's sad that he did this movie, and I wish his family would have stopped him sooner. He was a great actor, and action figure...but we'll remember him how he was.

It's also sad that Prime Video can list this movie as a reason to have a subscription to their streaming service, because really, it's a reason to leave Prime permanently. THAT, and the fact that they have started charging extra for anything worth watching.

Pathetic.

Don't torture yourself.

If you've watched every other movie in the world, and you're out of options, go for a walk.

Mayor of Kingstown (2021– )

More!
8 December 2022
Taylor Sheridan is pushing out some excellent content, hopefully someone is paying attention to his formula because it's pure entertainment. The dialogue hits home, it's incredible combined with the acting, and the storylines are ones you can't walk away from. Mayor of Kingstown is another example of this. To say this is a riveting series is an understatement, and I can't wait for season two.

Far more than just another violent show, which so many series seem to get wrong, this has the story to go with it that will keep you glued to the screen. The finale of Season 1 will make you pretty tense!!

The subject matter of 'Mayor' certainly isn't within my purview, I only watched it because of the Sheridan factor....and then I was hooked.

If you feel like "WTH is going on? Is this a good guy, or is he...What?" in the first bit, don't worry, you're not alone. Kinda adds to the story that it isn't all laid out for you in the very beginning, like you might see in a Disney movie. Just hang in there for a bit, it's worth it in a big way.

You may see some complaints about 'the Mom', but it is a brilliant performance that lays out the juxtaposition between the different layers of society/whether we like them or not.

Definitely not something to watch while there are kids near by, don't even consider it.

Don't ruin it for yourself by reading any spoilers.

** If you are looking for a 'mistake', there is one on the blackboard.

"Significant" is spelled wrong. Maybe deliberately? Lol Who knows.

It broke my heart.
28 February 2021
I was literally amazed at Aniston's ACTUAL ability to jump to this very serious movie, with great comedic interludes. She was absolutely convincing, and this is a must see for anyone who deals with chronic pain, or has a family member that does. Great to see a movie where the lead doesn't 'overact' to drive the point home. Aniston handled this with precision. There must have been considerable effort to research how daily pain with very little hope for relief affects people, and how they exist day to day. I found the portrayal to be incredibly real, and can honestly say I was proud of Aniston's amazing performance. It broke my heart for those folks that live like this day to day. There was an occasional moment where I had an occasional niggle that the timelines weren't exactly right, which is the only reason I withheld one star.

Worth it?
28 February 2021
Worth watching? Absolutely. Funny? Very Any REALLY funny parts? YES. Baldwin is hilarious, and Hayek plays very well off of him. An entertaining, enjoyable movie that I will likely remember I watched, and would recommend to friends! I wonder 2 things... Why all the negative reviews, and WHY isn't Will Ferrell listed in the credits?? Weird.

Exciting, but....
8 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Don't you feel cheated when it feels like the movie suddenly ended 30 minutes too soon? C'mon, do BETTER. Danielle Macdonald gave a great a great performance, as did the (?) little girl (?), but the whole (basically) indeterminate ending made me feel like the movie was a waste of time, which is too bad. Exciting, even riveting at times, then it seems like it was quitting time and everyone just went home. Still definitely worth watching, though.

Until...

Liked the movie, it moves right along... Until the end. Sorry Jodie Foster, big mistake. Hard to believe anyone went with THAT as an ending. Maybe they just ran out of time or film or... Money?

It's incredible.

You will never forget this movie. Win lose, or draw. If Meryl Streep doesn't deserve an Academy Award for this performance, no one did, ever. Ever.
