The art of good entertainment.
22 February 2006
I guess we have to look at these films from a generation view point in what the great Shirley Mclain has recently stated in that they should start to make films for the over 50s age groups.

The film of today certainly seem to be targeted for a ' a different generation" as often I have to switch the box over to see if there is something wrong with the stereo settings as all I can hear is music and a very muffled speech.

I find the older films, as in this case, to be irreplaceable and standing in support of the old saying "they don't make 'em like that anymore" With taking anything away from the modern ladies of the screen, were can you find another Shelly, warm, funny, voluptuous with a distinctive class she retained to the end. Ossie Davis, irreplaceable and a gutsy person to play his part with the obvious dedication with which he did.(no wonder he won over hearts and minds) I doubt if the is a black actor with such dedication to that role today as Ossie was then.

Burt and Telly. as usual, delivered first rate parts in what proved to be good all round entertainment value. Amazingly enough my 13 year old son sat through it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Which cant be a bad achievement from our generation of old timers.

The Terminal (2004)
8/10
A really good famly movie
22 January 2006
Very neat pseudo tear jerker playing on all the moving human emotion yet not losing the essential light magic touch of comedy.

The movie was well put together, at least from my perspective, and is a clear indication of what a great Mr Spielberg can do when directing humans and not machines(War of the Worlds).

Furthermore, it just goes to show class will always win through, no sex, no violence, no swearing, and no eardrum shattering horrible music that ruins so many films these days.

In many ways reminiscent of the classic lightweights of the 1940s. I liked it and would recommend it as good family viewing.

Tom Hanks is always a winner for me and he really settle into this part admirably, his accent, which is a difficult one to imitate was brilliant and Catherine Zeta Jones is just so darned beautiful! Put this with her great acting skills, and although we did not see enough of them together, you could feel the electricity all the way from Heathrow to JFK A really nice memorable film

Kojak (1973–1978)
Kojak the original is simply the best
29 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Gosh how time flies is it really 31 years since Kojak hit our screens? In those heady days of the 1970s, a Saturday night was sacrosanct, the pinnacle of the week when we all got together for a great dinner dance night out.

Then the BBC8I originally come from the UK) ran Kojak at 9pm and my fate was sealed! I was in 'till 10 pm glued to the "box"and hooked. For me it remains the best ever TV cop series.

Well made with great colour, good story lines throughout, no foul language, and only the best in romantic subliminal suggestive sex.(the only way to view it on TV where the eyes speak all) The location shots were perfect, which are always very difficult and hard to get right "every time" under the pressure on making a TV series, and the camera worked hard to deliver the best from all involved and did it so professionally! Sadly when trying to revive a great series something always suffers(Star Trek!) and today's attempts to give a¡us a 2005 version of Kojak are regrettably a very third rate posture, as the whole magic of the name Kojak is lost and we end up with more than just a whacking great big anti-climax with the new crew! Try as they obviously do, to me Telly Savalas, and the rest of the old crew, are just too tough an act to follow. Consequently, with respect, I am forced to give the new series a big thumbs down and predict a very short run, if it goes two season I will be surprised. Sorry guys I don't mean to be harsh but there was only one Manhattan South

Not too good a review I am sorry
29 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
After waiting for this film come out I found it to be a great anti climax. There was more suspense in the older version which at least kept you gripped. This film was so predicable and boring than it may have been better to have made it an all out animation for what the contribution of the actors was worth.

It was more about animation than a credible story line.

It went from an ever deminitive Tom Cruise whom I like normally to antiquated graphics which were bettered in previous films.

Is this now the decline and swansong of Spielberg and Cruise?

I know this is a contrary view but its honest and I give it a big thumbs down
