Guy's Big Project (2017)
A fun series for any up and coming chef
I went in thinking "oh god, ANOTHER Guy Fieri show?" Food Network is a fine channel full of fun, enjoyable series, but they OVERDO Guy Fieri, so looking into the series like this was unthinkable. But after the first episode aired, all my friends said "Oh this is amazing" and "oh this is one of the greatest Food Network shows yet!" Really? Better that Guys Grocery Games? Better than Worst Cooks? Better than Iron Chef? By god, this must be AMAZING! I checked it out, and I have to say, I'm impressed. It not only used Guy Fieri's likable personality and fun attitude, but it introduced a bunch of new ideas for shows that could appear on Food Network (my personal favorite was "Crazy Creations" seriously, how did that not get green lit?) I definitely recommend this show for any chef of any age.
Lilo & Stitch (2002)
20 days of Disney Day 3: Lilo and Stitch
Ok, so I hate to say it. I have NEVER seen this film until yesterday. And everyone is saying I should review it. Everyone got me hyped. And... I don't just like this film. I REALLY like this film. Okay so it's not Lion King, but it's still up there with something like Treasure Planet or Bambi for me. The story is Lilo is a young Hawaiian girl who adopts a pet she thinks is a dog. In real life this is an alien named Stitch. He is an experiment made by Jumba Jookiba, an alien scientist who, along with his friend Pleakley, is on the chase to find Stitch and take him back to his home planet. So obviously my favorite part is Stitch. This guy is so funny and so original for Disney. And then there's Lilo. I don't think she's terrible, but I think she's kind of Boring... as for the aliens, Jumba is pretty funny and gets a few laughs, Pleakley is pretty funny as well. I just wish I got that with Lilo. In fact, I thought all of the human characters were boring. But for the aliens, I do recommend this visually and comedic gem.
The Lion King (1994)
20 days of Disney Day 2: The Lion King
I will not be the first to say I freaking LOVE this movie. It is such a masterpiece in the hall of Disney fame. It is so nice to see that even over 20 years later, still not much can beat The Lion King. The story is about Simba, a lion who's, and I know I don't give any spoilers when I say this, father, Mufasa, dies when Simba was young. He meets Timon and Pumba, and learns the saying Hakuna Matata, which means no worries. It is still so weird that this films story remains a masterpiece. Simba is a very likable character. Scar, in my opinion, is one of the most amazing villains in a Disney film EVER. And with villains like Ursula from Little Mermaid and Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians, that's an accomplishment. Now I am going to say it, I don't like Timon and Pumba. You can hate me all you want, you can boo me. I personally don't find them funny. But for the rest of the movie- oh, you thought I forgot the songs? I LOVE these songs. Maybe if I had to choose my least favorite, it would be "I just can't wait to be king". I think it cheesy. Personally, I feel like it is just a masterpiece among the Disney Vault.
Treasure Planet (2002)
20 days of Disney #1: Treasure Planet
Before I get started, I just want to clear what 20 days of Disney is. For the next 20 days I will review 1 Disney film. And yes, that sounds exactly like Channel Awesome's DisneyCember. I will admit, I am exactly ripping that off. But I'm putting my own twist, where I don't go in order. I just choose randomly. Also, I will NEVER give any spoilers. Anyway, here's the review:
Treasure planet is defiantly a different film from Disney's past films. For one, it's very modern from others. Where something like Romeo + Juliet (1996) was a modern version of Romeo and Juliet, Treasure Planet is a modern spin on Treasure Island. In some respects, it works. In others? Well... let's look at the story. Jim Hawkins is a boy who, unlike in Treasure Island, is a delinquent. His dad left when he was young. Yes, a father figure left the protagonist early in Disney Film. I don't understand either, but let's move on. One day he finds a map shaped like a sphere that leads to Treasure Isla- Planet! I keep forgetting this is Treasure Planet. He is joined by Doctor Doppler, some friend of his mothers, and is later joined by a whole gang of different characters, including Long John Silver, who is actually a Cyborg in this film. He is also joined by a robot played by Martin Short. That sentence make me love him already. I freakin LOVE Martin Short. So, for the story, in my opinion, even if it's a little different from the original source, it's still a good story. The characters: Jim is sort of a typical Teenager who want to be cool, and blah blah. Silver, I kind of liked. He's played by Brian Murray, and he's actually kind of funny in this film. And to be honest, Martin Short robot was probably my favorite part. So obviously I like this film. Perfect? MMMMMMM. No. For one thing, it's WAY to modern. Instead of a pirate, long John silver is a cyborg... eh. The ships suddenly can fly... wait what? Yeah, so all in all. I like it. It's problems can be annoying, but all in all, it is a film I can definitely recommend.
