One long exposition
20 February 2022
My biggest complaint about Wes Anderson films is the constant exposition full of whimsically redundant details. A little bit of this is okay but this film was non stop.

The film felt like one long exposition rather than a story. It's like a constant narration of what is happening instead of letting the story tell itself through dialog. The first story was good. I enjoyed it. It was a bit silly but that's okay. The movie gets progressively worse from there. The second story makes absolutely no sense at all. And the third story is somehow even worse.

It's the kind of story where it probably makes sense to the writer but the audience has absolutely no clue what is going on until watching it a second or third time.

That's not why I watch his movies though. I watch his movies for the production design and style. And this film was absolutely beautiful visually.

The story sucked but it looked nice. Typical Wes Anderson.

Dystopian Singing Contest
23 September 2021
I might have given 2 stars if the character designs had be at least half decent but they are terrible. The whole thing feels like some kind of dystopian concept conceived by a group of people too ugly to show their faces in public. Every person on this show has to talk about how "shy" they are. Yeah right! You're on a nationally broadcast TV singing competition I doubt you suffer from too much anxiety. Why does everyone have anxiety these days? Why can't people just be themselves? When did we start valuing artifice over authenticity?

The Most "Nolan" Movie You've Ever Seen
28 May 2021
My biggest issue with this movie is that I had a hard time understanding what was going on. Not because of the subject matter but because the style of acting and writing mixed with the loud music. Pretty much all actors especially the lead was engaged in what I call mumble acting. When combined with loud droning music over the top I was completely lost. Then on top of that some of the scenes seem to be cut short and jump straight into the next scene without any context leaving me wondering how we got there and what it has to do with the previous scene.

That being said I thought the idea of not only going back in time but traveling though time in reverse was really really cool. I can only imagine how strange that must feel. Super cool to think about. And then I was also impressed by the practical effects used throughout in the action sequences. It really took it to the next level.

So overall very cool concept and ideas and awesome stunts but poor decisions with the music and acting style.

Would you like a sedative?
19 May 2021
This movie doesn't really get going until over an hour in. At that point things start to get kind of interesting but then the ending is extremely rushed. It's okay (I've seen way worse) but it would have been better if the first hour was cut and they focused more on how they got from the middle of the movie to the end of the movie. There is a huge gap that I imagine they cut for time. Overall not good but not terrible.

What a boring movie
26 April 2021
I'm not a Wes Anderson fan. I find his style to be too much. The most interesting thing about his movies is the production design. Other than that the writing style seems very childish. I don't like his stories or how he directs his actors. And this movie is no exception. It feels like a cross between a cartoon and a play. And I don't particularly like cartoons or plays. The only thing it has going for it is its unique style but that can only hold my attention for so long. It is a dreadfully boring story told in a dreadfully boring way. Not a fan. And this will probably be my last attempt at trying to understand why people like Wes Anderson so much. It's not for me.

Not for everyone I guess
22 April 2021
The one thing this movie has going for it is its very unique style. But to me this can be too much at some points. I loved the set designs and the colors but I didn't care for the story or the characters at all. I didn't feel any kind if emotional connection to them. They all seemed too wacky and unrealistic. It was kind if like watching a cartoon. Nothing in the movie is realistic at all. It was as if it had been written by a child. I'm not putting it down as I'm sure that's what they were going for. I'm just saying its not for me.

Finally an interesting show on network TV
2 March 2021
In world of police dramas, medical dramas and emergency dramas we finally have another sci fi that looks promising. Though not perfect I have hope for this one. Its kind of reminding me of Fringe and X Files. I hope it can be just as good. Can't wait to see more.

I hated the main character so much
20 February 2021
The absolute worst kind of human being. She has such disregard for life it's hard to watch. I hate knowing that there are people like this out there preying on the most vulnerable people in society. Beyond that it goes full on spy movie at the end. Very unbelievable almost comedic at times but in the worst way possible. I only recommend watching this movie if you hate yourself.

To be honest the first 45 minutes was a bit bland and at times I was a bit lost and not reallysure what they were talking about. I'm hoping it gets better I'm definitely going to try to stick with it.

Great Movie but...
9 February 2021
So I liked this movie a lot but I don't exactly agree with some of the ideas in it. The movie is about a boy trying to sue his parents for being born. That is right off the bat an absurd idea. To start with his parents are dirt poor so good luck with that. His claim is that life is so bad he'd rather never been born. He believes his life is worthless. This however is not true because we see him greatly improving the lives of others throughout the film. I don't like this idea that so many people seem to share these days that life is meaningless and unimportant. Life especially human life is very important. Each and every one of us has a place and a purpose whether you realize it or not. I am so grateful for the people I have in my life. No life should be taken for granted.

Horrible plot hole that could have easily been avoided
12 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movies major flaw is the plot hole at the end that is so obvious it can not be missed. Julia cuts off Alex's hand and instead of running for the door to escape she instead goes upstairs and and activates a self destruct button. Doing this would have destroyed Tau as well. A better ending would have been for Tau to turn on Alex and kill him and never activate the self destruct. But I imagine the producers wanted a big action sequence at the end so they opted to just blow the whole house up.

Not bad
11 January 2021
It wasn't great by any means but it wasn't terrible. I liked the style a lot. Just one continuous shot in one location with very minimal camera movement. I imagine its probably hard to write something interesting with the rules of this show being that it must take place in front of the two pink doors. But all six episodes were decent. I think the first one was the best and then it kind of goes down hill from there. But each one is under 5 minuets so its not too hard to stay focused. If they had been any longer I probably would have lost interest. In terms of comedy its about one notch above the average SNL episode. So in other words not great but not terrible either. It's a quick watch and defiantly different than everything else being produced. All in all not bad.

Best Sci fi Franchise of Our Time
11 January 2021
The three films are so mysterious they leave you with more questions than answers and thus leaving you wanting more. I can't get enough of Cloverfield. It's a world full of huge monsters but each story focuses in on a specific part of what's going on and after watching all three films I'm still not totally sure what caused all of this. None of the films give you the full picture. You only know as much as the characters know and all the characters know is that they are alive and the whole world is in total chaos. None of the characters know what's going on and neither will you. To me this makes it feel very real because in a situation like this you wouldn't have any idea what's going on. All in all it's my favorite sci fi series and I hope it continues but that is looking doubtful right now because certain business decisions have left the future of this series in jeopardy.

How many times can you do the same thing?
2 January 2021
This is essentially the same documentary they made 2 or 3 years ago. There is nothing new here. Which makes sense if you think about their philosophy. One thing they talk about is the accumulation of stuff. They say that people buy things and it makes them happy temporarily. And yes this is true but there is nothing wrong with that. Imagine if you could buy something or accomplish something and after that you were forever satisfied. Well then you would have no goal or ambition or drive to accomplish anything else because your already happy. Which is exactly what happened in this documentary. They didn't say anything new that they didn't already say. It hilarious really if you think about it.

Took me 8 years to finally get around to watching this movie
22 December 2020
This movie came out when I was a freshman in high school though my high school experience was very different from Charlie's I still experienced a lot of the same emotions. Charlie is bullied in high school and I was not. Sure I caught a mean comment every once in a while but that was very seldom and far from bullying. My issue in high school was that I felt invisible. Like all of my friends had their own friends and that I just kind of floated between groups and no one ever really knew me. This movie made me remember all of those feelings.

This is a heavy movie. It deals with some horrible themes that no one should ever have to go through. At times it made feel nostalgic other times it made me sad and at one point I was very angry after finding out what had happened to Charlie. All in all this movie is very emotional and one that will stick with me for quite some time.

Took a star off because of the ending
20 December 2020
As someone who hates social media this movie really expresses all of my reasons. The biggest one being that everything on social media is fake. It's all manufactured to give an image that someone wants everyone else to see. I can not stand it and I'm glad someone made a movie about it. The girl in this movie is pathetic but so is everyone in this movie.

So I thought the movie was great in that sense and really thought it was saying something important until the last 3 minutes. They had an opportunity to make a huge statement and blew it with the last scene. It was a very shallow ending and they could have just left that last bit off and I would have thought a lot better of this movie.

All in all I'd call it a failed attempt to say something big.

I really wanted to like this...
19 December 2020
This is a garbage film. It looks nice it's well shot the actors are all great but the story is horrible. Nothing happens. Or really a lot of things happen but I don't care about any of the things that happened. It's like if someone you don't know told you about their day. It's that boring. This leads me to a big question. How do movies like this get funding? Who read this script and was like "yes! we have to make this"

Disturbing
17 December 2020
I only watched episode 1 and I don't think I'll be watching anymore. There is a content warning before but that did not prepare me for one scene in particular that was extremely painful for me to watch both physically and emotionally. All of the characters are horrible human beings but for me the worst one was the main character. She is so morally bankrupt that I didn't care what happened to her. She is a disgusting human being and awful mother.

Entertaining, but I didn't like the message
15 December 2020
The one thing I got from this movie is that Bong Joon-ho must really hate rich people. This is even more obvious when you consider that his other notable film is basically about the same thing. Rich vs poor. This is a bit odd considering he has a net worth of 30 million dollars.

This movie is about a poor family that lies and weasels their way into the service of a rich family. In doing so they not only screw over several people but also murder a few of them in the process. And yet at the end of the film we're supposed to feel that all of this is somehow justified.

Or maybe we're not supposed to feel that it's justified because I sure didn't.

Not really sure why it got so much praise. Could be because we are living in a time when the majority of movies being made are superheros or reboots. Thats basically the only thing this movie has going for it. It was entertaining and well made but I didn't like the ending at all.

Just because you don't agree with society doesn't mean you have to live outside of society
14 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Captain Fantastic is a movie that shows that not everything is binary. Not everything is black or white.

The movie opens with typical anti capitalists benefiting directly from capitalism. We know this from 2 main examples. 1. At one point they go to a bank and withdraw money meaning the father has a bank account. 2. Later in the movie the father explains how he ended up living in the woods. We learn he and his family were living on a farm that they sold to purchase land in a forest. So anyone who has ever bought land especially desirable land knows that it is quite expensive. Which means he has money. You could argue that his wife has a rich father and maybe that is how they were able to afford the land. Either way they are still directly benefiting from capitalism all while talking about how evil capitalism is. This is very typical of anti capitalists. The fact is that capitalism allows them to live their lifestyle.

And I believe that they learn this in the end as it shows him sending his kids to school. In other words he kind of accepts that in order to function you need to follow at least some of the rules.

There is a reason we do the things we do in this society. There is a reason we have organized religion and government education and shopping malls where you can buy anything you could ever want. To completely remove yourself from all of these things is a mistake. But at the same time to blindly follow everyone else is also a mistake. You need to balance your life and make decisions based on what you believe to be true. Because everyone says their way is best but only you can decide what's best for you.

Not how it works at all
21 October 2020
This "documentary" is about how the internet influences people's minds and how they think specifically teens and young adults. The problem is they way it is shown is completely inaccurate. It shows a young man being influenced by social media and notifications but the way it shows it is as if there are actual people looking at everything you are looking at and sending you things to keep your attention. This could not be further from the truth. There is no one looking at you and analyzing your actions on the internet in real time. It is an algorithm that does all of this for millions of people at the same time. This is mentioned briefly but instead of talking about how the algorithm works they show 3 people monitoring the kids every action and trying to influence him. Thats not how that works at all.

Another thing I don't like is that they assume everyone on the internet is a nut case conspiracy theorists. It is true that there are a lot of those out there but there is nothing wrong with people telling others not to believe everything the mainstream media and scientists tells you. Because actual scientists do the exact same thing as conspiracy theorists. They present theories as fact. You can clearly see this on Neil Tysons new universe show. He never once says that the things he is talking about are theories. He says this is the way it is and that is simply not true because there is absolutely no way of knowing what he says is true unless you actually observed it which no one ever has. My point is it doesn't matter if you are a scientist or just some guy with a webcam anyone's guess is as good as anyone else's guess when you are at this level. because no one has any idea how some of these things work.

This brings me to what I believe is the overall point of this "documentary" the point is to make people not trust anything. They are trying to get us to the point were no one believes anything. They are trying to create so much doubt that anything could be true or not true. There is no way of knowing. You don't even know if they way you are thinking is because you really do think that way or if someone is making you think the things you think.

My solution is don't concern yourself with things that don't matter. They try to say the world is horrible and chaotic and on the edge of destruction with climate change and riots and polarization but the truth is as I'm typing this I'm sitting an my patio and today is such a beautiful day. Its 75 degrees and there's a nice breeze the birds are squirrels are all playing and everything is just peaceful. I'm not seeing all the the destruction and despair they keep talking about.

I have a different view of what this is about
12 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of people seem to think this is about religion. Thats not what I got out of it.

To me the poet is a man who desires fame and wealth and for people to love him. His wife just wants a baby and a family to be happy.

The poet achieves his fame and becomes a celebrity. His fame destroys the family. Just like we see in hollywood when celebrities get married the marriage rarely lasts. They end up having a child and the child is exposed to the fame and the fame kills the child just like what happens to so many child stars. The people then eat the child.

In the end the whole family is destroyed and the poet rebuilds his life with a new woman. In real life the celebrity destroys his family and divorces his wife and just starts again with a new woman.

A Fine Film
3 September 2020
I really liked it. I don't understand the bad reviews. Just the look of the super 16mm film deserves respect. Some of the shots are absolutely gorgeous. The cast did a fantastic job. Speaking of the cast they were all very pretty people. The narrator did a phenomenal job. He has a beautiful deep round warm voice.

The story is about a very arrogant writer who has a little bit of success which only fuels his arrogance. I love the way he pretends to be humble by downplaying any compliments people give him but he's not actually being humble he's being arrogant. Everyone admires him from a distance but once they get to know him they truly hate him. He's an extremely unlikable person but that is okay because this is a movie. We don't have an actual relationship with this person so he is not hurting us we are watching him hurt the people around him.

I thought it was funny. Most people will not get this kind of humor. Its very dry and I don't believe I saw Philip smile even once throughout the entire film. He's a very miserable angry person.

All in all a great film and definitely worth a watch if you are into movies shot on actual film and or interested in cinematography. Its also great if you enjoy dry humor and great dialogue.

Its truly awful to think there are women out there like this
1 September 2020
Not only is her behavior disgusting but its celebrated. While watching the first few episodes I was trying to figure out if she was suffering from autism. One thing that points to autism is the fact that she just blurts out what ever sick twisted thought comes into her head. Then I realized she's not autistic she's just a bad person. Like at least if she were autistic it could somewhat justify her behavior because she can't help it but she's not. So whats wrong with her? Maybe she has some other mental health issue. I don't know. At any rate it should not be celebrated. She is not funny shes sad and has no purpose.

Wish thay had given it to Netflix instead of TNT
29 August 2020
I think this would have been a much better show on Netflix were they would have had a little more freedom to actually make it interesting. I hate the main character. The movies main character was so charismatic and just seemed like a true leader. The guy they got for the TV show has no qualities of a leader. Hes just some guy. Should have got someone more like Jamie Foxx. Someone with some attitude and grit who can take control and really drive the story forward. TNT is notorious for producing mediocre tv content and I hate to see this happen to such a great story.
