2 Guns (2013)
You can't go wrong when Denzel Washington is on set
Without getting too much into the specifics of the plot which doesn't really matter. This movie is not a serious action movie and should not be treated as such. Instead, expect an easy going comical take on the supposed relationship between drug related organized crime and government agencies.
The movie creates some sort of serious mystery to-be-discovered premise, but then discards it and moves on to pure comical action. I personally feel it served it much better.
The action itself is pretty engaging - there aren't long moments of talk and suspense and trying to figure what's what.
And then there's Denzel Washington doing his bit with a cool Mark Wahlberg kicking everyone's ass while having fun (not my words).
Either way, if you're looking for a film to watch in the cinema and won't go for this one because it says "action" in the genre; you really should consider it as "comedy" and just go ahead and watch it.
Drive (2011)
An action film potpourri
The film starts off nice, like you'd expect some blend between Gone in 60 Seconds and Fast & Furious, but then the plot becomes less and less coherent to the point you're wondering if someone actually bothered writing the script. There are missions in GTA that have more depth than this movie.
Then begins all the violence (senseless violence, like you're watching a horror movie) that impresses nobody. Very little cool driving scenes, and those weren't really cool.
The film gets a 5 because what was actually bothered to be done, was done well (scenery, effects, acting).
Unless you're a sucker for extreme violence, don't bother watching this movie.
How to Rob a Bank (and 10 Tips to Actually Get Away with It) (2007)
An allegorical take on social dynamics.
While the title of this movie is "How to Rob a Bank", it had only scenic reference to bank robbing. This movie really is an allegory about social dynamics; how to be a master of your own destiny (rob a bank) instead of being moderated into a meaningless controlled life by society (pretty much having very little money after paying for charges, etc...). "How to Rob a Bank" is a good movie that can be easily misunderstood if taken as either an action movie, a thriller or a straight on comedy. It has a genre of its own and a powerful message. The acting is the strongest aspect of the movie and rightly so, in order to deliver that message. The movie could have been better if it had more time to emphasize and elaborate, but then the rather short runtime of the movie (81 minutes) were quite effective. If you do watch that movie, pay attention to social dynamics instead of technical bank robbing details.
