Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
Unbeleavably lama and getting worse every episode
Show creators just do not understand why peple watching Kaiju movies.
Here you will not see any giant creatures for the most of the time. Only few seconds on the end of the episodes and the same footage from one of the earlier Gozilla movies will be repeated again and again.
I would not have problem with it cause most of the good shows does not include Kaijus either. But they usually have good scenarios and good acting. Not gonna happen here.
Every actor here just dont bother acting. Every scene and background just screams "Cheep" at you.
One episode just completelly takes place in a tiny rooms like holding cells, trailers and garages. And no creatures whatsoever. In a basically Godzilla show. But included "The Agenda".
What a shame.
And alk this is happening while japanese Godzilla Minus One supposed to be in the theaters.
The Flash (2023)
This movie deserves more
Thanks to many scandals involving Ezra Miller this movie obviously lacked post-production attention it needed.
I suspect - this is why CGI is so low quality in half of the scenes, and especially in introduction act.
But some attention to details, on point jokes and many references to DC and other cultural refs are just awesome.
I was so surprised to see the best reference to famous Kevin Smith story - probably the best multi-verse thing around.
And Batman is just hilarious. With all the original designs and music. It is just a treat for fans.
I am very disappointed that this movie got so many negative attention because of scandals and will be discontinued, But it shows that Andi Muschetti is great director and his movies are on top tier list. I am really sorry that he had to go through production hell because of many scandals. This movie could have been so much more,
But is still very much enjoyable one.
Ogon (2020)
Nice movie. Resembles "Only the Brave". But mostly entertaining
Unlike "Only the Brave" - which is one of the most honest and tragic movie about firefighters - this one is not based on a real story. So this is much more intense and entertaining. Very good looking picture and great acting of Kostantin Khabensky.
But it looks like producers watched "Only the Brave" and decided to do same stuff but more. More fire, more drama, add a dozen of kids, a pregnant woman and some over the edge heroic sequences that does match with physics. Not a total rip-off of the Braves, but you can clearly see where did they get their fuel.
But where slow paced "Only the Brave" made real drama build up and make you cry in the end - this one just all over the place. Where first movie shows in details the actual work of hotshots and what is their actual line of work - this movie kinda more about dealing with people then with fire. May be this is more truthful to Russia.
In any case this does not hit you with a drama as much as "Only the Brave" and gives you more entertaining experience more like summer blockbuster movies.
I see no point comparing it to "Backdraft" as some other reviewers - cause unless you've been living under a rock for last 30 years you've got more flicks to compare too. Backdraft is classics, but let it go already.
Anyway, I totally recommend to watch this movie. Great flick! But the best way to understand it is after "Only the Brave". Cause they definitely payed some ommage to it.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Unbelivably blend story. Not a horror or a thriller.
Can't belive that in 2020 you can still shoot such blend and predictable stories. I understand that source material is from 19th centuary. But you at least should have tried to make it more modern. Moving timeline to our days is not enaugh to thrill.
This story should have been at least two times shorter. 9 episodes under an hour each made it unbeliavably blend and full o fillers self repetitions and just time streching scenes.
It is was a 3-4 episodes show it would have been much more interesting experience. But even in 9 episodes some parts of the story became untold.
What was the thing with a doll house? Why the well is abandoned and dry? What is the thing with the stairs?
Instead of it we will see mostly meaningless dialogs of characters. And some of them are painfully repetitive.
I can even say that the way it have been shot is very strange. Episodes shot in cars are too artificial - the blue screening is too obvious. Most of the night shots in house are too artificially lit as well. Scenes look more theatrical them real life. I'm not sure that have been done on purpuse or not but it breaks emersion.
Archive (2020)
A tastless compilation of other great movies.
Unbelivably lame movie. Based on old clishes and thing that other movies showed around hundreds of times. It looks like a cheep parody or a compilation of other flicks. If you've seen "Ex Machina", "I am Mother", "Moon 2112", or any other decent movie about a peson with AI - this one will only disappoint you.
Cmon, you will in 100 % guess the main plot and how a movie will end after 10 minutes of film.
Buy you probably will not last for 10 minutes. If you've seen "I am Mother" you can tell how you can make a good robot suit for a movie with small budget. But here you have a tasless copy of it. And wirst of all a person in a robot suit dont even try to play a robot. He just moves like a regular human in a suit. What an insult!
It just shows how a director and a stunt playing a robot were not even bothered by quality. Probably just asked first random guy to wear robot suit and point camera on hit on day one. No rehersals, not even trying to find someone to choreograph it or even get any robot impersonator from the city square.
Amazing Stories (2020)
Amazingly Trivial Stories
Amazingly Trivial Stories - that supposed to be the name. I honestly do not remember when I've had an opportunity to see such trivial and amazingly corny stories. Not telling that it was filmed very by very lazy people - all the stories have been told hundred times before. If you've seen more that 10 movies in your life none of these stories wil surprise you.
The most suprizing and amazing story - is how Steven Spielberg got involved in that.
The only good part - you can leave your 10 year old children to whach whole show - cause it is incredably friendy and without any touch of inappropriet contend. Kids friendly.
Fantasy Island (2020)
Very lame, badly acted and poorly scripted, but still kinda fun.
Actresses all look like were casted directly from Scream Queen show. In fact all actors act very poorly. Some of the directing choices look like were taken strait from the early movies in this genre and are well known cliches.
But still if there is nothing to watch and you go on this movie with intention to laugh from bad acting and directing it can give you some fun. I laught so much, but probably not in places where it was planned in script.
