Super 30 (2019)
A movie that deserves your watch.
Vikas Bahl, after his last disaster, got back on his record as an A-grade director with this film. Super 30 is a journey and not just a film. Bahl's direction in the film is creative and aesthetically pleasing. Coming to the casting and performances of the film - Hrithik Roshan went way out his comfort zone to deliver this character which is very commendable, I liked his performance very much but he definitely wasn't the best fit for this role, the casting of the students and the other supporting roles were also on point. Mrunal Thakur had a very little amount of screen time but managed to do wonders with her role and it was very pleasing to see Aditya Shrivastava back and Pankaj Tripathi, with his unibrow, was a breathe of fresh air to the film. The movie was filled with little stupid but funny gags which kept the momentum going. The movie is narrated by Vijay Varma who also has a cameo in the film. I had a tough time to get used to the background score of the film which was sometimes like a fairytale and sometimes like a war movie, which made sense as the film was based on IIT. The film did get a bit dramatic and surreal in the second half. At the end, I thought the movie was wonderful and we have to give the credit to the makers.
Bharat (2019)
Let's see.
A massive upgrade from the previous Bhai film - Race 3 in which I suffered from the start to the end. I was having 0 expectations from the film but it wasn't that bad. I must say it's a remake of the old Bollywood scripts and the plot line is almost constant with no thrill and fun whatsoever but the first half did have some clichéd Bollywood humor but still was able to make me giggle at times. The performances of the film - Bhai didn't do much there, it was a below average bhai performance, Katrina is trying to improve her skills, which is commendable, I think. Sunil Grover kept upto his name as an amazing and effortless actor and the other performances of the film varied accordingly, some were very cringe while some were great. As a Bollywood movie usually does the lack of story was compensated with unnecessary songs and item numbers. The story has nothing special to offer and gets really complicated in the second half. Although it being better than other Bhai films it's really not worth your time and money.
Student of the Year 2 (2019)
A Movie Which Can Not Be Spoofed
After an amazing 2018, and mindblowing movies in 2019, here comes Dharma to take a 146 minutes dump on Bollywood. Such cringe performances are mere product of nepotism. I myself have no problems with star kids unless they are as good of actor and actresses like Ranbir and Alia. This movie is cringe, meaningless and unworthy of your money and time. The whole movie is out of place. I respect Karan Johar for some of his movies. But this just needs to stop right away.
Gully Boy (2019)
The Perfect Underdog Story
A story which justifies the hype it created before even releasing. There's alot to the other than just big names. The contribution of Zoya Akhtar's whole team is brilliant and is visible throughout. The film has a gripping narrative. It has a lot of parallel stories which are quite clear due to Zoya's brilliant directing. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt have delivered great performances which were expected. Siddhant Chaturvedi is also a delight to watch. The authenticity of the film if commendable.
