Do Not Disturb (1999)
Weapons of Maas destruction
Those of us who are familiar with the work of (very talented) director Dick Maas, will notice that this movie is 'Amsterdamned', 'De Lift' and 'Flodder' re-re-revisited. Obviously the great man had a lack of original ideas at the time, as lots of scenes (and sounds!) appear as a deja vu. The movie is also a strange combination of amazingly over-the-top, yet realistic action scenes (although the location sequence is odd, the car chase is a masterpiece) and annoying cardboard moments, of which the scene on the roof of the hotel reminded me of the old Batman series on TV. A reasonably enjoyable film though (or should I say parody?), with only one big let-down. I mean: if you have Jennifer Tilly on board, being the actress with the best body in the business, well SHOW that body then!
Deep Purple: Doing Their Thing (1970)
Doing Their Thing
BRILLIANT performance - and it even features George Best!! In a shocking pink shirt, that is... Apart from that, the band plays a show that makes your jaw drop to the floor. Especially Ritchie Blackmore gives the best he has - which is a lot! If he had performed like this constantly, he should have still been in the band. On 'DTT' Blackmore is as close to Hendrix as possible, mistreating an torturing his guitar like the mean b*st*rd he is. Good songs too, by the way. Vintage Purple at its very best. So good I have to say it twice. BRILLIANT performance - and it even features George Best!! In a shocking pink shirt, that is...
