Shelter (2007)
still great after all these years
The acting is great, the dialogue realistic, and the story really heartwarming and sincere. Beautiful portrayal of a positive LGBT relationship. The actors are really natural and make the movie stick with you.
Seeing this again in 2023 it feels like this movie was ahead of its time in terms of the positive type of gay relationship it shows, the amount of intimacy between the men, and what kind of life they can live. It is also nice to see how the straight characters treat them.
I also love the soundtrack. The songs fit the story super well.
There need to be more LGBT movies like this. 10/10.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
don't get the bad reviews
Huge movie buff and yet I really enjoyed this movie. I'm also a big Resident evil fan, but I hated the other Resident Evil movies from the 2000s as they strayed way too much from the video games and were just ridiculous.
On the other hand this movie had good horror elements, lots of easter eggs for fans and honoured the original games well.
My only complaint is that they should have given the first and second games their own movies, and Birkin talked too much when turning. That and Claire should have had her ponytail :)
Hope the sequel does Code Veronica since that was one of my fave games.
Emergency (2022)
amazing film with great commentary
This movie should be part of school curriculums. Has so much to tell about our society.
Yet I see bunch of low reviews from people who clearly missed the point and have no idea about the fears and struggles that so many people live with even in first world countries. Crazy how oblivious some people are. But I guess that is why we still have the inequality we see so much of in the first place.
Anyway, highly recommend this movie. Has good comedy, drama and is even part thriller. The pace is good, acting is great, and the dialogue is believable and well written. Should give people some good things to think of and talk about.
Heartstopper (2022)
great characters and really charming!
All the characters seem very real and are well developed. I also really like that whenever you think conflicts in the story are going to go in a predictable/cliche way they actually don't and they get resolved realistically.
Love seeing such a sweet story with lgbt characters. Looking fwd to the next few seasons!!
Kathy Griffin: A Hell of a Story (2019)
this woman is brave and hilarious
Really funny special, and Kathy was so brave to do it after everything she went through with that ridiculous 'scandal'. Glad people like her have the courage to stick up for what they believe in.
Love, Victor (2020)
great show and engaging cast
I read the book and watched the Love Simon movie and loved them both. This is a great continuation. They did a great job with the theme, the new characters and did not make it feel like a duplication of the story. Love it!!
Selena: The Series (2020)
great series!
Acting was great, use of Selena's felt organic and the series gave a lot of character to Selena and the rest of her family. I think this story works better as a series as there was a lot of context added here that was missing in the original movie. Really enjoyed it!
By the way the main actress nailed Selena's mannerisms and performances.
The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears (2021)
fascinating view of how mysoginy was and still is alive
Great pacing and good interviews and archival footage. This documentary proves Britney deserved better than what the world gave her and still gives her.
Our mysoginy as a society is revealed in how we treat (and tear down) women when they have any semblance of power, and is pervasive even under our laws. The reason Britney seems to be caught in a strange legal conservatorship under her father today is because women are much likely to be perceived as 'unstable' than men.
On the Basis of Sex (2018)
Great legal drama
Great actors, good pacing and interesting legal issues discussed in this drama. Really enjoyable film!
Cuatro lunas (2014)
Awesome film
Love movies where they have several different independent stories that intersect in some way. And these deal with gay characters of several different generations. Really interesting to see how they all dealt with it and the other things happening in their lives.
Great acting and characters. Loved it!!
I Feel Pretty (2018)
fun and good message
It was great! Don't get the criticism. Not as good as trainwreck, but it was trying something different and had a great message and a lot of laughs. Amy you rock and we loved your audiobook too
