Bloodsport (1988)

best martial arts movie of all time
17 November 2006
If you look at the rating for this film it is only 5.8 percent at present that is a serious understatement of this films genius. This film deserves a much more higher rating. Okay its not an Oscar winner for acting, but who cares! its not about acting its about true martial arts and fighting on the big screen and Bloodsport brings this to you superbly. One of my favourite movies it also provides the Rocky pump, as in like Rocky it has the emotion both in action and through the films music and the fighting makes you want to get up and starting punching and kicking anything! and you don't get that sort of feeling with many films. Rocky had it and Bloodsport has it, and if a fighting film makes you get up and fight your living room wall then its a winner! Van Damme is excellent, his fighting manoeuvres are breathtaking, the range of different styles of fighters is great and well know martial artist Bolo Yeung's destruction of all opponents is wonderfully filmed, and as Van Dammes main contender we have a great adventure. All the fighters give great performances and the fighting scenes are superb. Great performance from big Donald Gibb as the hilarious Ray Jackson. His running punch on his first opponent is worth watching for that alone! Donald Gibb is excellent and brings humour to the role as well as some excellent and sometimes hilarious no nonsense fighting! The story too is superb, the kumite bringing the worlds greatest fighters together and by invitation only and the location also brilliant. Hiden in the depths of Hong Kong badlands. A winner in all departments. I remember watching this with friends and going out in the garden for some Bloodsport kicking and punching well not each other, thin air! but it makes you feel alive. Not many films do that. 10/10 for me. Fantastic film!

Tightrope (1984)

wonderful dark, stalker killer movie, superb
24 October 2006
I love this movie, Clint Eastwood is fantastic. It's a very dark, mysterious movie set mostly at night. Within the adult scene in 80's New Orleans. With Clints character's sexual cravings he begins to cross the killers domain and realises the killer is not only very much in touch with him, but similar to his desires in many ways. It's a great story, simple stalker type movie but done superbly. Twists and turns throughout the film. It's a forgotten or perhaps not known very well Eastwood gem, not a dirty harry shoot em up though, a more dark, personal film involving Clints life orientating between father to his girls and his seedy sexual desires in the night of New Orleans, to his non stop crusade to bring a dark and mysterious stalker to justice. A wonderful film, great acting and suspense throughout. Very enjoyable. 10 out of 10

Dirty Harry (1971)
10/10
the best action movie of all time
24 October 2006
One of my favourite all time films. Superb for its time. Best action movie ever. Wonderful performances from Clint Eastwood and supporting actors. Dark, violent, disturbing view of the other side of life. Clint Eastwood greatest actor of all time without doubt. Harry Callahan legendary character. This is what we think of when being a cop, dirty harry style! Great story, great city to set film in too. Music score is wonderful too. It's a cult classic. This is the best of the series and so original. The seventies were cool, this made it even cooler! I would have liked Clint to have made say two more films in the nineties, but sadly they finished with the Dead Pool in 88. There are 12 novels from Dane Hartman and they continue Harry's adventures and are great reads if you are a fan of the movies.

Best sequel to the series and just good old slasher fun!
27 September 2006
I love this film and I love the funky soundtrack that opens and closes the movie, fantastic. Good old slasher fun as when it was at its best late 70's and in this case early 80's. Best sequel by far, pity they did not leave it here and stop milking a good story, but as in everything they do. Anyways if you like the first and second, this is an excellent sequel. I prefer the funky music opening and closing to even the original. Especially the dramatic music at the orginals end, rather have this 3rd installments funky music puts you in the mood for a good old kill everyone in sight movie! and we love that sort of thing, especially in the late 70's and 80's where slasher movies where at its best!

The Best Film of all time
21 April 2006
Quite simply the best film of all time. Tony Perkins gives one of the best performances from a male actor on screen. Sensational story, superbly directed by Hitchcock and excellent performances from all actors especially Janet Leigh. An amazing film for 1960, the story is the best horror of all time, the lonely hotel, the eerie house and the quiet mysterious deranged proprietor make the atmosphere sensational. Would have been very enjoyable to have seen this movie when it was first released as the story was unknown and to have the beautiful main character (Janet Leigh) killed so early and in the most vicious way in the shower was such an unexpected and shocking turn! The scene is one of the most famous in movie history but was not done by Tony as he was very squeamish and shy around woman! What began as a young woman running away with some money to better her and her boyfriends future turns into the murdering, deranged world of Norman Bates. You never know that Norman is the killer until the end, nor do you know he is mentally ill, but of course you always have this feeling! The film especially for its time is just so different, so wonderfully done and the story is made from amazing imagination. The film is much better than the book as the character in the book is not similar to Tony Perkins Norman. This was Perkins role of a life time and he does it amazingly, he was born to play this part and will always be here with us as Norman as the film will always be in the memory as it is the best film ever made.It has also influenced every horror movie since and continues to be influential to this day. RIP Tony Perkins and Janet Leigh and thanks for the movies, the performances and the entertainments you gave us.

Halloween (1978)

One of the best films of all time
21 April 2006
This film is one of the best of all time, certainly in the horror genre. The claustrophobic atmosphere is outstanding, the music is just as good as the film and the killer is as creepy as can be! Actors are fantastic, RIP Donald Pleasance you were fantastic as Dr Loomis, he made the film even better. Without him the film would be missing a vital ingredient. Jamie Lee Curtis is also superb as our beloved scream queen! Her innocence makes her unaware of the real evil that is after her until she finds her friends grossly murdered in the house, which of course is one of the films best scenes. She gives a tremendous performance. I loved this film since it scared me like hell back when I seen it in the very early 80's and I still watch it to this day as it is a marvellous movie that just brings you in to this world were you could be gutted like a fish at every turn! The fact that it is a simple format of a mad man in a mask whom has escaped from a mental asylum and ready to kill everyone in sight without them having any idea that he is there, is just shockingly terrifying and indulges you even more into the movie as the events though fiction could easily be come true. We all know that unfortunately evil does exist in this world and a mad man with a knife is certainly not uncommon, a very disturbing an deep fear for all of this. Death at any turn. Halloween of course shows this in it's most terrifying way. Horror should be believable, and that is what makes the film enjoyable. It's just a simple story that is made into an excellent and terrifying atmosphere. As well as Psycho's superb storyline, both of which I adore, I believe there formats are the best horror has to offer. To me Halloween and Psycho are the best films I have ever seen and I will watch them all my life and never grow tired of them. Halloween is undoubtedly one of the best movies of all time.

Brilliant 70's football film, great fun
10 April 2006
Seen this movie a few times on TV and it is a superb football film. Nick Nolte is excellent as the gruff and rough guy with lots of problems on and off the football field. Being in the 70's makes it even better and more realistic. Made in a time when men where men and sports meant more than money, a lot more. Sex, booze, knocking heads and blood & tears is what make these players happy! Good, fun all round film with great thought put into the story especially when entering Nolte's problems with team management/owners. As we all know deep rifts and problems occur between sports players and club owners but we never get to really know the truth and what goes on in the boardroom and player meetings. This film gives us a little make look at what could or should I say happens! I enjoyed this film very much, love the music, great characters and a good story. A winner all around.

Cruising (1980)

Wonderful movie
28 January 2006
I love this film. I love the locations, the acting, the music. It is a fantastic story and being in 1980 a perfect time. Al Pacino is great in the main role and nothing sums up the movie more than when he leaves the club and the guy follows him and Pacino stops and says "not tonight!". The underground club scene at that time in the Gay world is shown brilliantly and the mental effect on Pacino takes its tool and is shown well. It's so good because it so different, if feels true and with lots of serial gay killers at the time it's like a documentary of one of them. I watch this film regularly and never grow tired of it. Shown regularly on UK television and I am glad they do and not take the easy way out and think it offends cause it doen't. In fact it opens up a forgotten world. Not appreciated enough.
