Sonic Prime (2022–2024)

Finally a good Sonic Show!
18 December 2022
I fell in love with the original Sonic Cartoons as a kid in the 90's, but Fast forward to today and we had the choice of Sonic X, which is just a load of cheese and cringe, or Sonic Boom, which is mildly amusing but hardly an adventure and with no real plot.

Sonic Prime still has some of those cheesy one liners, but the story is finally something I can get into, with characters that take themselves seriously instead of every other line being some sort of dumb joke.

Serious Tails is so much better than fanboy Tails Serious Amy is so much better than "Herp derp I'm a girl lets go on a date" Amy.

Serious Knuckles is so much better than the dumb meathead he is portrayed as in Sonic Boom.

I waited until watching the whole season before reviewing.
18 October 2022
I wont lie, it was a bit confusing and slow for the first few episodes. Trying to figure out who characters were and whether they were god or bad or even important was a struggle, but a fun struggle at least. I guessed a couple characters before they were revealed. Last few episodes got me hooked, and I was sad to see we were only getting eight episodes this season.

The good: High production value. Feels like you are watching an extended version of a theatrical release. The story is good once you get a feel for what's going on, and the costumes and makeup are top notch!

The bad: If I could say one thing that really bugged me, especially toward the last episodes, it's how completely the Hobbits or half foot or whatever changed their ways, which they were so serious about in the beginning. They basically went from, "Nobody leave the trail even if it means we have to leave the crippled behind!" to "Oh hey let's not only start acting brave and heroic, but willingly send a child to go with someone who is being chased by evil people who just murdered one of us! Yeah no problem! Here's a big lovely dovey farewell scene!

Also I can see what they are doing with Poppy Proudfellow, but she is not the Samwise the Brave they are trying to make her out to be lol.

Oddballs (2022–2023)

I'm a fan of James on youtube, but this is not James on youtube.
10 October 2022
There is a certain charm that comes with the simple animation and low budget of youtube animators. Unfortunately once Netflix get's their hands on it and injects their patented formula for failing nearly every original Netflix series they create, it loses that charm.

The show itself seems to be attempting to be some sort of Adventure Time/Regular show clone. As far as I can tell (I haven't watched ever single theodd1sout video) the James in Oddballs is a completely different, incredibly dumbed down version of the version he plays for his youtube audience.

I'm proud of James for selling out, I would have done the same, but it's too bad it turned out to be such a chimera of every other garbage cartoon Netflix has pumped out for the last few years.

The reason they released three episodes at once was because it's so slow and boring.
22 September 2022
The first episode was so slow and boring. I still have no idea what the plot is other than the speculation that comes with being a sequel.

You know how most first episodes, even if they have a slow start, leave you with a cliffhanger that really makes you want to watch the next episode? Not here! I literally have two more episodes available to watch immediately and zero interest in watching them.

Is this even a Star Wars series? You wouldn't know from watching it. Yeah they have a droid, but it's not a droid that reminds me of Star Wars. I think I heard them mention the Empire once or twice but at that point I was already half asleep from watching this.

We need another Thanos snap.
7 September 2022
If all these new shows were written before the snap, we would all be cheering Thanos.

Bad writing, offensive jokes, horrible plot. It would be fine if this were being treated as a non-canon title, but you just know eventually these characters are going to start having little cameos in other superhero movies and it's just going to ruin the atmosphere.

And I get it, maybe it's not made for me. I'm one of those horrible cave men after all, but this could have been made without ruining the Marvel franchise. Disney has lots of terrible shows that nobody even cares enough to write a review for, because it's Disney and that's just what Disney does, but nope, Disney is just going to keep milking that Marvel branding until it's shriveled up and worth nothing.

Blew my expectations away!
28 August 2022
Let's just say as a 41 year old man, I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. After all it's a show with a 16 year old heroine produced by Disney. Boy was I wrong! I waited until two months after it's release date to watch but ended up binge watching the whole thing on a Sunday!

The story and production were A+. I can't believe some people are trying to compare this show to the low budget cringy CW shows. This was like watching a movie made for theatrical release!

I have literally nothing bad to say about this show. Best thing to come out of Disney+ since The Mandalorian! Can't wait til the Marvels movie comes out next year!

Weak start. So weak I turned it off and finished watching the next day.
23 August 2022
The first half of the first episode was so bland and boring that I literally found myself falling asleep.

The second half got a little better. It just good enough that I will probably watch the second episode as well, but if there is no improvement I'll probably be quitting this show only two episodes in.

All but maybe two of the characters are interesting to me. This show has a lot of catching up to do if it wants to live up to it's predecessor.

Good movie. The people claiming some nonsense about "woke" are full of it.
9 July 2022
I finally watched this movie, held off a bit because of the bad reviews but I'm glad I finally got around to it because it's a solid movie! Other than a few easter eggs it's completely independent of the Toy Story franchise so if you are expecting Toy Story, don't.

I was kind of astonished at how little "woke" material was in this movie, considering the outraged. If you are offended by a ten second scene in which it is casually mentioned that one of the main characters has a girlfriend instead of a boyfriend, then you are indeed a fragile little snowflake. Oh, and the "kiss" scene was literally a less than one second peck of a kiss, never referenced again.

So feel free to enjoy this movie for what it is! A sometimes cute, sometimes sad, sometimes funny Pixar film! It's not the best by Pixar standards but it's a solid 8/10!

Slow start, good ending.
24 June 2022
The writers certainly had some high expectations to live up to, and I can't say they did that. There are some very deep plot holes in what should be plot that practically writes itself. You also just kind of gotta, suspend your annoyance at some of the pretentious "cleverness" that you get any time a child actor is involved.

That being said, it's very watchable. I think a season two will out perform the first season simply due to the freedom the writers will have to create a new story that perhaps doesn't involve Luke or Leia.

Disappointing, but your kids will probably like it.
19 February 2022
Was hoping for a little more of an adult comedy, but instead they removed some of the most important plot points of the game in order to make it kid safe and tried to emulate the "so stupid it's mildly amusing" style of Spongebob.

It lacks the rubber hose animation style that made the game charming, it lacks the plot, and the voices they chose for the characters may as well have come direct from Bikini Bottom.

I gave it a reluctant six stars because I'm sure kids will probably enjoy it.

No matter what race you are, you will cringe hard at this terrible show.
30 October 2021
I don't like to write a review without watching at least a couple episodes, but I just couldn't do it, It took me three hours to watch the first episode, because that's how bad it was. The best way I can describe this is imagine if a 13 year old homeschooled kid who's only form of interaction with other people was via the internet, was hired to make an "adult" comedy about middle school kids. I'm pretty sure this garbage show is what you would get.

They had a good idea but the gameplay is terrible.
22 April 2021
Loved that you can make your own avatar, loved the plot, loved the backgrounds, but the gameplay is terrible.

For the most part it's super easy (so easy it's boring), but then there will just be a part of the map you have no way of knowing about so you can't not die a few times. Seems like the developers where like, "Let's make the game so easy a three year old can play it, but let's make sure they die a few times at random parts of the game just so they think it's hard."

Once you have played the entire map once you can play it again with your eyes closed. It's all about knowing where that one place you need to jump is.

Would have been a better game if it were open world instead of everything on a track.

Just when you think it's over it's not over!
6 March 2021
There have been a few movies with similar Groundhog Day plots, but this is not the same! I mean you get the basic idea from the synopsis, but there were some unexpected surprises that really kept this movie going!

I only took away one point from this movie for the absurdity of the ammount of firepower the boss sends to kill this one guy who they just met the day before. I mean I get it's an action movie but c'mon lol.

Something interesting better happen fast.
15 January 2021
Two episodes in, and it's actually done well if you like old school sitcoms, but despite the decent writing, the teasers for what's to come are too little to keep me interested much longer. I don't have 22 minutes to waste just to get 30 seconds of plot every episode.

Six out of ten stars right now but it's going to loose a star every episode if something interesting doesn't happen fast.

Good idea, but less would have been more.
23 December 2020
Overall I love the idea, and I mostly enjoyed the movie, however I would have enjoyed it more had they cut out two pointlessly dramatic scenes. It was dramatic filler that added nothing to the plot, but rather distracted from the point of the movie.

One of those scenes was so bad I almost turned off the movie. If they had consulted even one amateur survivalist they could have explained to the writers why that scene was so terrible.

I liked the ending. Not as predictable as I thought it would be.

Star Trek: Lower Decks (2020–2024)

It's really good. The only mistake was using Star Trek branding.
24 September 2020
All the people who are giving this show low scores would be giving 9's and 10's if it were named anything but Star Trek. As a stand alone show, it's very good. Good storyline, good jokes, doesn't take itself too seriously but doesn't go overboard with crude humor either.

That being said, I can see why hard core Star Trek fans don't like it. It's not in the spirit of the other series. If you are expecting something that could believably be part of the Star Trek universe, you are going to be very disappointed.

They should have made it it's own thing.

Loved it. It was like John Wick with more plot.
31 July 2020
I was honestly surprised at some of the criticism I saw of this movie. I loved it. It had action, a unique plot, a suspenseful end that didn't feel like I was cheated out of a real ending, and great attention to detail. Lots of moments where I was like, "Wow they didn't have to do that but they really went the extra mile."

Also Netflix loves to force race and genders into roles to make it seem more inclusive, but this time they managed to do so without it feeling forced in the slightest. Everything felt perfectly natural to me.

This might be the first Netflix movie I have rated a 10/10

It's above average for kids/teens, below average if you are an adult.
30 July 2020
I would have loved this show as a kid, it's better than the transformers we had back then, but as an adult I find it predictable and the writing is pretty lazy.

The CG animation is not great either. Makes it look like the robots are made of rubber rather than metal.

It's watchable to the end, which is more than I can say for a lot of other Netflix animations, but then it is only 6 episodes long.

Another Netflix series with potential ruined by bad writers.
9 July 2020
Every single time the main character started in with her internal monologue I cringed so hard. If it were not for that, I'd raise this to probably seven stars. But that was not the only issue. The plot holes are just huge. Quadriplegic who never left the institution where she was raised by hard ass nuns somehow has street smarts and talks like she grew up affluent?

Netflix, please stop hiring 14 year olds to write scripts.

A superhero movie where I never felt the need to suspend disbelief!
21 April 2020
Good solid movie. Not over the top like a lot of Marvel films. It actually felt more like a good heist movie rather than a superhero movie. The superpowers, robots and drones were just fun little bonuses.

It's like listening to a podcast with a cartoon on mute in the background.
20 April 2020
I mean it's interesting enough that I'll keep watching, but it is kind of like they had a team of animators, and a team of voice actors who both finished their work before ever coming into contact with each other, and then someone had to try and stitch the animation and the audio together.

It's not Adventure Time as some would tell you. It is it's own weird thing.

So much potential in this world Pixar built... too bad we didn't get to see it.
5 April 2020
Feral unicorns, dragons, Minotaur and all sorts of other races, beautiful looking city... and we get stuck in a van for two hours. At least that's how it felt. The larger of the two brothers felt like a reskin of Buzz Lightyear, while the younger brother was everything I hate in a character. The action? Well if you watched the preview you have pretty much already seen all the action this film has to offer except the ending, which was really not at all satisfying. You are kind of left feeling like you are peeking through a hole looking at what could have been.

Season 2? More like Seasonal poo poo.
26 December 2019
I loved the first season of this show and was really looking forward to the second season. I barely made it through the first episode. So boring. The second season starts out seven months after the end of the first season, I guess they just decided to skip all the stuff that would actually be really interesting, like them crash landing and setting up base, overcoming problems, ect. Nope, none of that, instead we get a cringeworthy Christmas scene.

There was some action and some attempts at drama, but it was not at all interesting. It was more like, "Oh they are going to do that now? Ok. Ho hum."

The first season I binge watched in one sitting. In contrast it took me three hours to finish the first episode of the second season because I kept pausing it to browse reddit because it was sooooo boring. Maybe in a week or so I'll try watching the second episode, but I'm not looking forward to it.

Who thought this was a good idea?
3 November 2019
Why would you choose someone who's primary audience is children to host a 1:30 slot? I'll be honest, I didn't know who this person was before I watched an episode, but I was confused and cringing the entire thing. So then I looked her up on youtube and it all makes sense now. This show should be on the Disney channel at 3pm when preteens are getting out of school, not at a time when they are sleeping.

I gave it two stars instead of the one it deserved because hey, Conan was pretty bad his first season too. Maybe she'll adjust.

Finally a Netflix Sci Fi Movie I watched all the way through.
31 July 2019
Netflix has put out a lot of bad content lately and I blame the bad acting for most of it. Turns out the trick was less actors! A well told story that wasn't as predictable as I thought it would be. Honestly if this was a theatrical release I might have given it a 7 or 8, but as far as Netflix content, I give it a solid nine.

If you watch this and think you found a plot hole, you need to watch it again!
