Aliens in the Family (1996)
A live action Family Guy?
The premise of this show wasn't bad, but it's timing and time slot may have done it in.
Alien Brady Bunch? Perhaps. The baby had funny lines that became catchphrases around my house. Alien kids from Henson's Muppet Shop, so they were quality. I would have liked to see more, and see the episodes I missed which may have given exposition on the looks of the kids...
Well written, to my mind. Easy to watch, laughs abound in each episode. Is that so bad? It was supposed to be a comedy. However, most well written comedies don't survive anywhere on TV, much less basic cable. Such a shame.
Nice lighthearted fare, safe for the whole family.
Kin-dza-dza! (1986)
Mad Max meets Zardoz?
A quirky movie, currently viewable on Google videos with English subtitles.
Vladimir and Gedovan are thrown together onto a strange planet. They struggle to survive in a low-key, cerebral and absurdist romp on Pluk, a desert planet.
Social structures are lampooned, post-apocalyptic survival methods are skewered, and the heroes try to get home without becoming lost within the expectations of others.
Mesmerizing and possibly low budget, the effects aren't any too dazzling. But the script and the heart of the characters carries the film brilliantly. Thought provoking and at times laugh out loud funny. If you like eclectic and unusual films, Kin Dza Dza is a great addition to any collection!
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip: The Christmas Show (2006)
Best episode yet!
Funny start, to a tear-jerking end!! LOVED the coconut killing the table scene, I laughed out loud both during the previews and the show itself!! And the whole jerk father thing, and who loves who, etc, a great thematic arc is developing. The NO musicians at the end was awesome and beautiful. I truly hope the musicians were actual NO refugees. We both nearly burst into tears at the "All I want for Christmas is my city back" banner. And will there be a TCA show? We love TCA (gag).... Many thanks to those who decided this show should be retained. It is inciteful and intelligent, which in Hollywood is a sure sign of impending cancellations!
