Doraibu mai kâ (2021)
Drive my away!
Japanese film based on Murakami's novel of the same name.
It is a dramatic and philosophical tale, although the first half hour feels like an erotic film.
The dubbing does not give credit and the dialogues are too didactic.
Nice cinematography but it lasts too long, almost 3 hours.
The Deep House (2021)
Low ratings is not fair
Blumhouse is the main horror production company in the world and it's a guarantee.
This movie is worth to watch: anxiety, fear and breathe taken.
Of course the screenplay is not exceptional but it's part of the movie, true the characters are not well written either but if you think that younger crowd could do anything to get more followers, than the actors are pretty good.
The first 20/25 minutes are very slow, the movie starts when the protagonists get into the house.
The Batman (2022)
It's different but was not necessary!
This Batman, is based on the Earth 2 comics and does not follow the timeline of the previous DC films.
Beautiful cinematography and epic soundtrack.
Finally a darker and less sweetened version.
Unfortunately, despite a rather well structured script, it really lasts too long! Almost 3 hours.
Don't expect any post credit scenes.
Rating 7,5.
Uncharted (2022)
Younger audience entertainment
Fans of the game, might be slightly excited.
There are several elements that connect it to the same.
All in all, it's a movie suitable for a younger audience and that doesn't push much on the story, but on simple entertainment.
Lots of spectacular sequences, but the quality of special effects is not excellent!
Wait until the end of the credits!
Nightmare Alley (2021)
Del Toro, as always, is a guarantee
Remake of the homonymous movie of the 40s and set in the same period.
Del Toro, as always, is a guarantee: excellent direction, cinematography and screenplay.
Fantastic cast.
Even if the movie is 2h and a half long, on the whole it flows well.
It captures your attention even if the ending is obvious.
Loki (2021)
Much deeper Loki
THIS SERIES PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN OUR DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF LOKI.
THE CHARACTER IS NOT ONLY WHAT IT APPEARS, BUT MUCH MORE.
FANTASTIC CAST AS WELL AS THE SCRIPT.
RATING 7.5
TWISTS AND TURNS ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER.
Eternals (2021)
It could be shorter
The story itself is pretty flat!
It starts immediately with a bang, and then continues in over 2 and a half hours with few ups and many lows. The Oscar-winning director demonstrates the technical qualities in the chosen style and skill in knowing how to manage an important cast, but she could have done it much shorter. Interesting from a social point of view, given the inclusion of various themes. I advise you to wait for the end of the credits.
Rating 6.5.
Diabolik (2021)
Accurate to the comic!
The story take up in a precise and detailed way number 3 volume of Diabolik.
The actors are perfectly portrayed, the choice of the two main characters is right, even if Diabolik appears very detached, a little less so Ginko, his movements are right but a little too Roman accent.
Even if the story tells about the first meeting and the union of the protagonists, the film gives more importance to the figure of Eva and less to Diabolik.
Direction promoted only in the second part of the film, soundtrack no!
Questionable screenplay.
2 hours are too many and the first half hour is too slow.
Vote 6,5.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Reflecting our society!
Cynical and ruthless!
A cast bordering on the surreal.
Funny, ironic, but above all very dramatic ...
Direction by Adam McKay is very hectic with dialogue cut from one scene to another, although perhaps it could be shorter.
The actors, sometimes, are over the top enough to make you believe it is a parody when in reality it is the mirror of society.
I give you some advice: stay seated until the end of the credits!
You can see the film at the cinema and on Netflix.
Rating 7.5.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
It's a blast
You couldn't ask for better than this.
Fun, sentimental, action-packed but above all very dramatic.
On several occasions you risk crying.
Soundtrack and special effects are not discussed as well as the cast.
Tip: stay seated until the end of the credits!
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
So close but still far away
Well, it's the closest version to the videogame and I appreciated more than M. Jovovic versions!
Pro:
_all characters involved from R. E. 1 & 2;
_villain look like from the V. G. (Finally);
_some details used from the V. G. (60% only, no spoilers)
Cons:
_characters looks differently and Leon is the worse;
_3 weapons in the whole movie! Really?!
_R. E. 1 & 2 combined!
_too fast, it could be longer and more accurated.
Vote 6,5.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Carnage but not so carnage
Last film owned by Sony before moving on to Marvel (Disney)... and you can see it!
Cute, yeah.
Funny sometimes.
CGI, slightly improved.
Too bad it's too fast!
A villain who does not convince at all, leads the film not to be remembered among the best
(much better the first).
Spoiler: It's worth watching for the post-credit scene.
No Time to Die (2021)
Entertaining Bond's bomb!
A pure entertainment bomb ready to explode!
Screenplay, soundtrack, acting and special effects that leave you breathless.
Nothing is missing: humor, drama, love and above all, action, a perfect mix like a Martini.
The only "flaw", the choice of the next 007!
Dune (2021)
Technically outstanding but empty emotionally
A spectacular film from a technical point of view (special effects, audio and soundtrack) that deserves to be seen at the cinema, but less so from the point of view of the contents. Too long (2 and a half hours), main characters (apart from a couple) lacking characterization, and that apart from the real action scenes (too few), leaves too much space for filling and empty dialogues ... leading you to fall asleep in more than a chance! Vote 6,5.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Hell yes
Finally we have what we deserved for years.
This movie is gore enough to be compared with the videogame.
Screenplay is limited but it's enough if you think that it comes from a fight videogame.
Something not necessary is this new character Cole, needed to give them a storyline to follow but not necessary, they could choose an original one...no spoiler.
Fight moves and catch phrases are brilliant...FINALLY!
Now you can delete from your minds the old ones.
Sound of Metal (2019)
What a fantastic act Riz
This movie, as simple as it is, is actually not.
It deals with an important and demanding issue such as that of deafness, connected to drug problems and addiction, so much so that it faces them in a way as real as it is as deep as a punch in the stomach; the recreated audio effect as well as the silences of deafness are spectacular.
Riz Ahmed has passed himself with a fantastic acting as protagonist who nominated him in the running for the statuette.
It runs with 6 Oscar nominations, among which my bets are for best actor Riz Ahmed, best sound and best motion picture of the year.
Judas and the Black Messiah (2021)
Good film but already seen
This film is based on real events.
Yet another in a series of films inspired by the events of the Black Panthers and the struggle for the rights of the African American population.
Despite being a good film, beautiful cinematography, great screenplay and excellent performances by the two protagonists, it leaves you with that "already seen" feeling.
Maybe too long, just over 2 hours!
It runs with 6 Oscar nominations, among which my bets are for Best Supporting Actor Daniel Kaluuya, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography.
Vote 7,5.
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020)
Just Davis & Boseman acting
The film comes from a theatrical transposition, which should have remained so.
A direction that is not excellent and that sees the two protagonists nominated for the Oscars, Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman, great drivers.
Beautiful costumes, sets and photography.
Minus the script.
He runs with 5 Oscar nominations, among these my bets are for the best production designer and the best leading actor, the late Boseman, who will win post mortem hands down.
Promising Young Woman (2020)
A feminist and captivating movie
A captivating film, not obvious and that makes you think, in particular on the personal actions that characterize the choices of the protagonists.
Although its duration is almost 2 hours, all in all it is smooth; but it could easily last 20 minutes less.
A feminist film, written and directed by a woman, Emerald Fennell, and masterfully acted by Carey Mulligan.
Vote 7,5.
Pieces of a Woman (2020)
Good the first one
This film marks the directorial debut in English by the Hungarian Mundruczó and what a debut, the first 24 minutes all in sequence in 1 single take (good the first one).
A poignant story that is built in 2 hours thanks not only to the excellent script, but from the Oscar-nominated performance by Vanessa Kirby, thanks to which she obtained the nomination for best leading actress, and in my opinion possible winner.
A film written by a woman for women, where the only 2 prominent male figures are eclipsed by female performances.
Mank (2020)
Oldest but coolest
This film, very particular and not commercial, certainly offers some interesting historical / cultural ideas but above all it highlights some of its characteristics, such as the color in black and white and the style of the 1930s films, which it means straight to the Oscars with his 10 nominations.
Appreciated the interpretation of the protagonist, Gary Oldman, possible winner, as well as the costumes, cinematography and direction.
These are my bets.
Colectiv (2019)
Not a simple journalistic scandal
This film deals in such a raw and direct way with events that go beyond the simple journalistic scandal. By exposing all the fragility and corruption of the country's government / health system.
It's not the classic Oscar movie, technically it's not perfect, but it should be taken into serious consideration.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Sufficient but the rental price is not worth it
A sufficient film that deserves to be seen only in the cinema and not in streaming.
However, it entertains even if it is not 100% convincing. Right to give a moral that very much reflects the trend of these times, but perhaps it would have been better to give a role as a main villain to Cheetah, and not as a simple supporting actor.
Some special effects were not that special, as well as the choice of colors, not exactly matched to the historical period of the film.
It's too long and too expensive to renting.
Tenet (2020)
Crazy but not the best
Personal rating 7/10.
I don't understand why people say: "I didn't understand" ... maybe you were too busy with your smartphone !!!
Having said that, it is a crazy film, on a technical and directing level it will surely have given many a headache, something like this was not seen since Inception.
Too long for my taste, even if for good or bad it never lets you take a breather, to see everything in one breath.
Impeccable cast, a little less the script and the plot.
