Manodrome (2023)
8/10
Drama about trauma
20 November 2023
A young troubled man is introduced to a male cult. When an amateur (Adrian Brody as cult-leader) tries to cure him from some deep and hurting trauma, the trauma takes full control. Things might even become worse when day-to-day life is stressful, like becoming a father and seeing your wife give over to postnatal depression. The trauma is out and Ralphie (Jessie Eisenberg) can't take back control. Things desperately go out of hand. Every day becomes more painful than the previous one. The cult-leader gives Ralphie a gun as a present. But guns can be very dangerous. This movie is a thrill from beginning to end but in a shocking way. - I doubt if many women will like the movie because all the men in Manadrome are victim of abusive relations where the women were the abusers. As was Ralphie. I suppose the message is that abuse by women in relationships is probably very common but somehow people don't speak much about it.

If you expect a Murder Mystery it is not!
24 December 2022
This is an entertaining movie which you can safely watch with your entire family. The movie is suitable for watching it on Boxing Day or New Year's Eve. And when the movie is over you think the time was well spent. For a while, anyway.

There was no real mystery, let alone a Murder Mystery, although people get killed. So what was I looking at? I would say at a lot of highly egocentric people who are very much in love with their own picture, or ego. They come out of different worlds like politics, fashion, social media and even science.

What connects them is that they are all funded by some billionaire who sends an inventation to a Murder Mystery Party...

The Prototypical SciFiHorror Movie
14 October 2022
Although from 1956 and in B/W this movie has so much suspense and action that you will be tied to your chair for the duration of the movie.

The characters are realistic and likeable, but they are all quite tensed and confused because they are mixed up in a sudden, great mystery. "Who can you trust and who can't you trust?" That is a theme that slowly develops during this movie.

In hindsight this could have been an Alfred Hitchcock movie. The director, however, Don Siegel, moved on and made many of the intense action movies featuring Clint Eastwood as 'Dirty Harry'.

I had seen, long ago, a remake of this movie, which is the original. Nevertheless I got carried away.

As you can see, I rated this movie with eight stars. In this rating I took into account that this was a movie made in 1956.

Enjoy! I recommend it.

Entertaining watch but completely pointless
25 August 2022
IMDB categorized this movie as Scifi, Horror, Mystery. It is a mystery movie, just that. I watched the movie till the end, haven't done that since a long time, that's good and that means the ranking is at least a six. - The movie drops questions it is not going to answer, that is extremely bad. We don't get the characters to know one bit, that is also quite bad. - So it is a miracle I kept the 6 stars...: I was entertained by a movie, since a long time.

I figured out why this series isn't quite well liked...
7 July 2022
It is Rebecca Romijn. She simply doesn't fit in Star Trek. - I liked her in the Librarians though. - The casting crew for SNW is probably very young and woke, without any knowledge of TOS.

Don't give your valuable life time to this series...
15 June 2022
Just don't... there are so many wonderful titles out there. Don't waste it on this one. It is somewhat mystery-ish but not funny and it certainly is not a horror series. - With the downfall of Britain so goes the quality of their movies and series. You'll understand. It is all gone.

This series is a Woke Lie - Romans 1:28
14 June 2022
Why is it a lie? Check the characters of Ron Guerette in this series and the non-fiction documentary from 2004. Some white guy suddenly became black! What is wrong with Hollywood? What is wrong with America? So Ron Guerette is the Token. The actor Robert Crayton was a traitor to his own people and race by playing the Token.

Now, if they did that... I can assure you this series is a Pandora's Box of vicious woke lies. - And yes. It is full of shocking deep LGBT filth. Which according to the series is "no problem" and "absolutely normal". I wonder if Peterson's daughter was in fact lesbian or that they convinced her that it was "for the good of" the LGBT-woke cause to portray her as such.

I say one word to KJV readers... everyone involved in this series must have been reprobated per Romans 1:28.

Technically, cinematographically this is an excellent series. All the acting, but especially by Toni Collette, is excellent. So how should I rate a near perfect series, with a message I detest? My rating is a technical one. Decide for yourselves ...

Sociopath or psychopath ?
22 March 2022
Limetown is a series about a radio journalist covering a major story. Many stakeholders in the story, including the FBI, rather leave the story for what it is: an unexplained event from the past. - The jourmalist is a narcissistic woman and a sociopath. She goes after her story in an absolutely ruthless manner. Early on in the series management insists that from now on she works closely with a partner .... From there on the series develops. I gave the series a 9, mostly for the suspense.

This is NOT father Brown ...
14 February 2022
... it is a brutal father Brown RIP OFF. But it does not even come close.

That said. If you like father Brown you might like the series. But not for the plots, not for the characters, not for the humor ( unlike in FB there isn't any ), you might like it because the scenery looks a lot like that of father Brown. You keep waiting when fB brings a visit to the sister but he doesn't.

And yes, there is a Token, and there are a lot of feminists. Haven't seen the gays, lesbians and transgenders yet, but I am sure the BBC lined those up for episodes to come.

I give it a VERY GENEROUS 4. For the photography.

In the middle of episode 2.
18 September 2021
Yes, in the middle... meaning, the episode could not hold my attention, let alone my focus. I got bored.

But I am not giving up yet. I'll continue watching one day, and if I do I might update this review.

For now, I love the actors, they are all convincing, except Nicole Kidman, why her? I loved her part in The Undoing where she played a role close to her character. But here you see Nicole Kidman acting , you don't see the character she is supposed to act. Big, very big, mistake to cast Kidman. Maybe she is thinking she can actually act.

IMDB categorized this series as Drama, Mystery and Thriller. Sofar there is all drama and zero mystery or thrilling about it.

Maybe later more. My rating until now, a 6 minus 1 for casting Kidman: 5.

Good sci-fi
20 August 2021
If you love real sci-fi then give this movie a chance and it will grab you. You'll watch to the end. That's all I usually ask from a movie: not to get bored. Note: all scenes are essential to the plot.

A lot of Crying Before Dark
8 August 2021
This series is all about Hilde Lisko ( Brooklynn Prince ). Hilde is a very emotional young girl. She gets angry quite a lot. And she is a star in creating all kinds of crying faces. She does this so often, that the magic of acting and film instantly disappears. You will experience a moment where you think: "that's another cry for Hilde". And then suddenly you realize that she is not really crying but that she is acting, and creating that (silly) face again. They clearly overused her crying talent. Come to think of it, I can't remember her laughing much. And that's what real girls of her age do most.

Kill List (2011)
9/10
Mindblowing
1 January 2012
Kill List starts off a bit slow but by the end of the movie you will be sitting on the edge of your chair. Kill List is a movie you won't forget that easy. Especially in the beginning the movie is so extremely realistic that it could have been a reality show, slowly fantasy is added but you know that the things you see are happening, somewhere and right now. Two ex army start off as contract killers when they return from Iraq. Normal people, with strong values about what's right and wrong. Jay is a family man, a loving father, and Gal believes in God. Like in the army they kill bad people for the good people. "They are bad people. They must suffer." , "I have never done any real bad sh.t" , says Gal when they are confronted with some real bad people. - It's one of those movies I'll be watching again and again.

An acting spectacle.
17 December 2011
At the time of writing this review 308 users have given a weighted average vote of 4.9. Note that 92 voters gave a 10 and 39 voters gave a 1. That indicates Another Happy Day must be a controversial movie. Let me add that it is a controversial quality movie. You may or may not like the story, if you don't then view this movie as a demonstration of good acting. Ellen Barkin is superb. And then there is Ellen Burstyn, at first I did not recognize her ( excellent make-up job ) but Doris and Sarah Goldfarb in Requiem for a Dream are both played by Ellen Burstyn. Demi Moore plays the part of a woman you should instantly hate and she does that very well. I simply forgot she was 'Demi Moore'. - I don't want to say much about the movie except this line, as I remember it. "I got upset because they called me autistic while I am only diagnosed as bipolar." - "Did they say that while you were there?" - "No, but I have exceptionally well hearing, I can hear frequencies as low as 20 Hertz."

The Clinic (II) (2010)
7/10
Thriller
28 February 2011
There isn't one boring scene in this movie. This must have been a 'low budget' movie but the result is great. A couple is on their way to spend Christmas with their parents. They decide to stay a night in a motel. When the man unsuccessfully tries to buy a take away meal somewhere at Christmas eve he discovers his wife is missing when he returns to the motel. - It turns out this was all just a prelude to the real movie which starts when we see Beth waking up in 'the clinic' in a bath tub full with ice ( as on the movie poster ). Her baby is no longer with her. We follow Beth in her quest where she is, what happened and most of all: what happened to her baby? - Most horror movies are completely over the top. This one isn't it, unlikely perhaps, what happens to Beth in this movie could happen to a girl out there, who thinks she is safe. It is a horror movie so expect blood and violence but again, very realistic. I rate this movie as a seven which means I don't think this movie will disappoint you in any way.
