The Prince of Hearts (1997 TV Movie)
7/10
Charming TV movie
9 November 2021
This is a sweet movie that will especially feel charming for fans of Robson Green and Rupert Penny Jones. I have always liked Tara FitzGerald as well, but her horrible attempt at an American accent kind of ruined her performance. (Simon Curtis should know better, since he's married to an American.) The interaction between Green and RPJ is delightful and humorous.

Condor: Mistrust Blossoms (2018)
Season 1, Episode 10
3/10
Season 1 Finale
13 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The logical fallacies in this episode are myriad. But the worst is that our hero does not kill the hired assassin who just murdered his closest friends, and recently murdered all of his colleagues and a would-be girlfriend. And then 30 minutes later puts a bullet in the head of the high-level federal agent he just kidnapped, even though he apparently wasn't able to kill in cold blood. Not to mention that everyone has been trying to track down our hero for weeks, but then they blithely let him back, no questions asked, even though he just murdered a federal agent. And he's the one heading up efforts to stop World War III. Then once the plan succeeds, they just let him go on his way. I really like this show, but this was terrible writing.

Spinning Out (2020)

Gripping story, great ensemble
3 January 2020
Like other reviewers, I stumbled on this show. Since I enjoy figure skating, I thought it might be interesting, so I gave it a shot. I couldn't stop watching until I'd seen all 10 episodes of the first season. The story pulls you in and the acting keeps you there. Now I'm hoping Netflix picks it up for another season because I really want to know what happens next.

Life Itself (2018)
9/10
Emotional and unpredictable
25 September 2018
This is one of those times when you should ignore the critics and make up your own mind. I usually agree with them and even when I don't, I think they have some valid points. But I'm flabbergasted by the negativity around this movie. I went into the theater without reading any reviews, having only seen the trailer and I'm glad that I had that "clean slate." I feel so strongly that they got this wrong, I decided to add my two cents here.

It's hard to explain how unlike this movie is from anything you've seen before without ruining it. There are some breadcrumbs along the way that you'll want to pay attention to. You also need to go into the movie knowing that it will pull on your heartstrings. If you don't like that type of movie--or haven't enjoyed Dan Fogelman's other work ("This Is Us," "Crazy, Stupid Love")--keep on walking. But this film has a beautifully crafted plot and moves very quickly. In fact, it was so fast moving that I thought it was only 90 minutes long, until I looked at my watch.

The acting is superb, from actors you've seen and several you probably don't know. The characters are believable and the situations are much like life itself: emotional, unpredictable and worth giving a chance.
