The Squabble Squad Files (2014)
Excellent! Unique!
I'm a big Smack the Pony fan and I can clearly see where Ben Fairey got those ideas from! It's really good that it goes further than that and lets the characters, sounds and visuals have their own styles and identity. I think Sisqo is the housemate/dancer that I relate to the most. He seems like the peace maker whilst Rudy and Lydia are a bit ego-centric. Or is Roxy the Dog supposed to be the secret fourth member? Either way, I really liked this series! I can easily see it in a sketch show if anyone bothered to make those anymore!
The Squabble Squad Files: Episode #1.4 (2015)
Funny enough for a short!
I've seen a few comedy sketches about housemates from the 90s. Back before the BBC commissioned middle of the road, gentrified and offensively boring sitcoms. Even though it's on a small scale, this short is like a hark back to that era! It's refreshing! And good to know actors are still letting their characters just be funny by being random! Yay!
M.L.E. (2015)
Wild, weird, random and satisfyingly strange
M.L.E was a title that didn't give much away for me, personally. But once I started watching, everything just felt like a really nice fairground ride going at just the right pace. Even the colour looks like those teacup rides I used to go on with my cousin as a hyper 10-year-old.
I have a lot of respect for the lead character Julie for dealing with some of the situations she got into, (especially when they asked her to be a spy!) All those funny little references to puppets, games and figurines hit the sweet spot for me!
I don't think everyone would like this film but I guess I'm enough of a childish nerd to really get it! Nice job MLE Movie!
