Man of Steel (2013)
Should be Super Destroyer of Buildings Man
First part of the movie was flash backs. Then were the fight scenes. Buildings got destroyed. There were a few scenes where people stared up at the sky. Then more buildings getting destroyed, people destroying buildings, spaceships destroying buildings, buildings destroying buildings. I had a mini nap and when I woke up, buildings were still being destroyed. So much asbestos getting inhaled.
The acting was good. The fight scenes were long and drawn out and felt like padding for lack of a solid plot/dialogue.
I'm pleased that there was never a Man of Steel 2, although its also sad because Henry Cavill makes a great Superman.
Fate (2016)
Everything is terrible
Terrible music, terrible acting, terrible script.
Everything felt amateurish and forced, especially the music. I ended up turning off after 30 minutes because I didn't have the patience for it anymore. It was too loud and interfered with the dialogue, and it was too obvious that they were trying to manipulate an emotional reaction - except their choice of music made it too forced and immature so it fell flat.
The script was poorly written and felt like something put together last minute for an assignment. The acting was stiff and unbelievable.
I hate not being able to finish a movie, but there was nothing there to make it worthwhile.
Restored by the Fords (2016)
Bland show
I don't care if these people seem to be stoners. Who cares about that? What bothers me is Leanne's constant use of white. Yes, her interiors have texture, but she's using the exact. Same. Style. Every single show. You could put a room out of each episode next to each other and they would look like cookie cutter copies of each other. Not only do they destroy beautiful architecture, they also take all the character out and turn them into bland clones of every other home they've done.
Plus Leanne sounds like who ever wrote her lines used to work for an infomercial. If she comes up with her own script then she's missed her true calling in infomercials.
Stasis (2017)
Unconvincing performance
The biggest problem is this: Seattle is a 20-something year old who finds herself in the body of a 15 year old. If you were an adult who finds yourself in the body of a teenager, you would still act like an adult since you've taken over their body.
Instead, the actor who plays Vessel Ava behaved like a petulant, immature teenager with neither the maturity, experience or acting ability to understand that her role required her to step outside of the familiar and become someone else. There was no difference between Vessel Ava and Ghost Ava as there should've been. After all, one is technically supposed to be an adult who has grown up, learnt things, seen things, experienced things. Instead we watch this teenager play 2 different characters as the same whiny, sarcastic character for 1h 24m.
But it's not just her acting that was bad and unconvincing. All the actors seemed to be delivering lines that they don't believe in and the extras are just cardboard cut outs being told what to do by a director that has no business directing anything. At one point this man (I didn't bother learning his name) gives a gun to an extra, followed by a motivational speech and the extra cheers but there's no conviction behind it. It was almost like the extra didn't feel confident to put enthusiasm into it and I can't help but wonder what the hell was going on behind scenes to cause that.
It's a shame the acting and directing let this movie down because it was a great concept otherwise.
Russell Brand: Re:Birth (2018)
I wanted to enjoy this but...
What's with the obnoxious camera work?
Russell tells joke.
Shot of audience laughing.
Russell tells joke.
Shot of audience laughing.
And on and on and on. I felt like I was getting whip lash. This is a comedy show - of course the audience is laughing. We can hear them. We don't need to see them laughing Every. Single. Time.
I only got about 10 minutes in and decided to give up.
