The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
Oscar worthy? What did I miss?
With all of the hype surrounding this movie I expected more. Seinfeld was a show about nothing. Well here's a movie about nothing. (disclaimer, I loved Seinfeld, this movie not so much) The point of this movie may have been over my head but neither my wife or I found much enjoyment in sitting through this one. This film is listed as a comedy. Huh? There was much more sadness than laughter. The story started nowhere and ended the same. The donkey was my favorite part and they choked him to death on a detached finger. Sounds strange right? That's my point in a nutshell. Yes it's easy to see that the actors gave their best and there's some beautiful shots but this one just didn't deliver for me.
The Terminal List (2022)
Great show! Very dark. Not the story. The picture.
Loved the show. Great characters great acting, great story lines. The only complaint is the film style. The entire series is so dark it's hard to make out detail. We thought our TV was going bad or something else was wrong with streaming until I read some other reviews. We still have two episodes left so I'm not sure if there room for another season? Hopefully a change of style will be considered. Otherwise great! The story builds momentum as you go. Definitely worth a watch if you enjoy a mix of action and great story telling. A ton of great supporting cast members. If there is another season we will definitely be watching!
The Pale Blue Eye (2022)
I wanted to love this but
Nowhere near the potential in the concept. Christian Bale was good but the story line fell flat. Very drawn out and boring in my opinion. I waited months for this one and was very disappointed. I won't be recommending this one even though it filmed in my locality. Very predictable except for the ending that was also anticlimactic. Just didn't live up to my expectations maybe? I don't know. Judge for yourself. I'm no expert but was expecting so much from the previews and advertising. I also knew of the local hype for filming so this one was close to home. On a bright side there was some great scenery and cinematography!
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (2022)
All over the place
Some of these are watchable and others are absolutely horrible. Not worth the time if anything else is available to watch. Judge for yourself if you have the time. Some of the stories kept my interest throughout but others I watched just because I already had the time invested. I would never recommend this to any of my friends or family. Felt forced like good writing wasn't attainable. A few episodes drug on and on with no value added. I like some of Guillermo del Toro's work but this is a definite stretch. Feels like a bunch of stuff was thrown at the wall and whatever didn't run totally off got included in the Final Cut.
The Old Man (2022)
Started out great
Loved the first two episodes. Next two really slowed down and dropped off. The confusing flash back sequences were unnecessary. Hoping things will pick back up. Love The cast.
The Batman (2022)
If only 45 minutes shorter and more focused
Started out liking the first hour or so. It was kind of a mix between a Batman movie and a psychological thriller. Then it lost it's way and never came back. Way too long with little payoff. Nowhere near as good as it's predecessors. DC should have stayed the course with the previous run. The ending of the previous Trilogy could have rolled into so much more.
Ratched (2020)
Only made it through 4 episodes
Another season of AHS. If you liked the asylum season you may like this? Although I made it through the whole season of Asylum?
The Ranch (2016)
Was a ten for me until latest season.
This season is just not the same. I was disappointed that Danny Masterson was let go due to allegations and I have to admit that the dynamic is not the same without his character but above and beyond that the whole season just seems off. The story line and writing were lacking when compared to previous seasons. Maybe they were rushed with rewriting due to the loss of a major character or something else? Or maybe it's just me? Either way if I feel the same after watching a few episodes next season I won't continue watching.
