The X-Files: Redux (1997)
Season 5, Episode 1
3/10
What a terrible episode...
18 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I'm currently watching the X-files on DVD from beginning to end and I must say this is the most excruciatingly boring episode so far.

The endless voice overs left nothing to the imagination and towards the end were insulting to the viewer's intelligence.

The story was filled with suspense and revelations, the closest the viewer has got to the 'truth' so far, it should have been exciting... much more exciting than it was... instead, we have endless wandering though corridors, over explanation and those wretched voice overs which remind me of the Harrison Ford voice-over from Blade Runner.

The way CSM seemed sad to see the evidence of Mulder's demise was the episode highlight for me, giving a tentative glimpse of more to their relationship than I first suspected.

Other than that, the episode should be the dictionary definition of anticlimactic... if that was the intent, then 10 out of 10. I suppose Redux 2 will probably redeem it, but why should one episode have to be so bad in order to make the next redemptive?

Life of Brian (1979)

It is simply a very funny film
18 July 2006
People shouldn't over intellectualise this film.

It is extremely funny, indeed it is funniest if you are a Christian, as I am, because it is about Brian not Jesus.

It is a satire about Jewish society AD 30 and in many ways its good to see satire which shows that people of any time are capable of being daft. The joke is on us, we are all desperate for salvation yet we are all still fools.

The Film isn't blasphemous, it simply shows that any history which is put up on a pedestal and made taboo is ripe for comedic pickings. Religion needs to be able to take a joke, if not then heaven will be a dull place.

Star Trek: Klingon Academy (2000 Video Game)
5/10
Good idea, shame about the controls
17 July 2006
Graphically, a good game. Damage on ships appears very well. It sounds like a star Trek film.

The storyline is good.

It has great atmosphere...

The problems begin with the controls...

This is a simulator, not an arcade game.

The controls are completely impossible...

On the Enterprise there are specialists who run the weapons, shields, engines, security and sensors... That is what they are for.

In this game it seems that all of these Jobs are down to the gamer. It is simply impossible to do. Unless you have more than two arms...

This isn't helped by the fact that the missions get extremely difficult very quickly... I wouldn't mind that if I could actually control the wretched ship or more actually rely upon some help from my crew while I am captain rather than have to do all the jobs for my entire bridge crew.

This game also explains how the Kligon empire, the lion of the universe was made into a kitten and chew toy of the federation. That is a wholly unsatisfying storyline... The Star Trek universe without its greatest bad guys is pathetic... the borg give me a break, they are boring, the Star Trek universe needs some outrageous bad guys to bring it back to its best, and the klingons with their individuality and warlike nature were the only ones for the job. Everyone else is simply anaemic.
