Bring Back Alice (2023)
Don't let the low ratings fool you!
I'm three episodes in, and so far, it's great! I'm honestly not sure why it has low ratings -.seriously. The story slowly unfolds with a great plot, and a great group of young actors.
Is it at the Euphoria level? Not quite - but it's definitely a great Euphoria adjacent alternative. For anyone who's looking for a dramatic, suspenseful show to watch, I highly recommend this. Between the music, the costumes, the storyline, and the acting, it's a wonderful series - you won't be disappointed.
**The only issue I've had so far is the sound fades in and out from time to time - not sure why, but don't let that deter you.**
Cunk on Earth (2022)
"Thanks to the volcano...
We know everyday Romans had gray skin, were totally bald and spent their time laying around inside their shockingly dusty houses.
But it also preserved glimpses of how sophisticated Roman life was. With creature comforts like indoor plumbing and cunnilingus."
Diana Morgan, "Philomena Cunk," is a fantastic mockumentarian who shares loads of insightful historical quips, delivering them with a deadpan, sarcastic absurdity along with some Nutella. Then she rounds everything out with the "Pump Up the Jam," music video.
Kudos to the experts who knew the interviews were mock, but were asked to take them as seriously as possible-that couldn't have been easy. And yet, they didn't crack.
This show is truly marvelous!
Lake Mungo (2008)
Lame...a giant nothing burger
After watching a documentary about the top 100 horror movies of all time, and seeing this movie mentioned near the top of the list, I thought I'd watch it. Not sure why It ranked so high...it was lame.
Nothing happened,
A young girl drowns
Her family is distraught and sad
Her friends and boyfriend are distraught and sad
Her mom can't cope with the loss and starts seeing her daughters ghost
Her brother sets up cameras throughout the house to capture the ghost
Her brother admits he set up the shots using old videos of his sister - there's no ghost
Mom isn't convinced and rewatches footage and sees the next door neighbor hiding in her house
Mom wonders why he's there - she recalls the daughter used to babysit the neighbor kids
Mom goes into daughters room and finds a locked safe
Mom opens the safe to discover a VHS tape showing her daughter having a 3 way with the neighbor and his wife
Neighbors sell their house six months after the girl dies and they leave town never to be seen again
Friends show phone videos to family which shows daughter burying something at "Lake Mungo" which is actually a desert
Parents go back a year later and dig up a bag containing a cell phone, a bracelet and other trinkets "her favorite things"
They turn on the phone and find a video of what looks to be a disfigured version of their daughter
Dad recalls it looks exactly like the body of their daughter following her drowning
After returning to the house they now claim they can't feel their daughters presence
Both mom and daughter see the same physic - he records their sessions
Mom and dad sell the house
Mom has one last sessions with the physic - she "mentallY' enters the house and no longer feels her daughter's presence
The physic shows video of the daughter saying her mom is in her room and doesn't know she's there (recorded before she died)
Did the daughter know she was going to die?
Perhaps
The end...
Dark Shadows (2012)
Tim Burton + Johnny Depp = MOVIE MAGIC
Anytime Tim & Johnny come together, you can guarantee the movie with be filled the unique whimsical style and visual aesthetic that has made their pairing so successful over the last 30 years. This movie it's just as expected. It's filled with Tim's gothic cinematic style, dark humor and quirkiness: it's "Burtonesque." As for Johnny, while we all know that it's Johnny under the makeup and costumes, he is a true chameleon who loses himself in each role that he plays. With all of that said, if you're a fan of the dynamic Tim & Johnny, duo, you'll enjoy this movie. Especially when you toss in Helena Bonham Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green and Jonny Lee Miller. It's a delightful movie that's definitely worth the watch.
Yellowjackets (2021)
The music alone, pulled me in - then the storyline & acting hooked me!
Christina Ricci & Juliette Lewis - do I need to say anything else? They are, as always, absolutely phenomenal actresses and are nothing short of captivating in this show. Next is the music, which is the soundtrack to my high school and college years. Then there's the storyline, which sucked me in from the first episode. It's a great combination of suspense, drama and intrigue, and at the end of each episode I'm wondering how an hour went by so quickly, and I'm already anticipating the next episode. It's a great show and I'm hoping there's going to be a second season. Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the young actresses hold their own against the seasoned actresses and they do a fantastic job emulating the adults version of the characters they're playing. Everything about this show is awesome. So much so, that I've been recommending it to everyone who will listen. This show is a definite must watch.
Them (2021)
Haunting and intriguing!
I disagree with the low ratings - I had seen the previews for this series, which had a Jordan Peele vibe, and it hooked me in. Although he wasn't tied to this show, it was nothing of spectacular. The writing and cinematography were superb. When you consider what's going on in our nation right now, seeing racism, discrimination, red lining and "white flight" filmed in this way, was truly horrifying.
Black Is King (2020)
Beautifully done! It's a feast for your eyes!
Visually Stunning, Artistically Beautiful, Musically Perfect!
I don't understand all the 1 star ratings. This is so well done, and the cinematography was impeccable.
I thought this movie was absolutely stunning. "Brown Skin Girls" made me cry. Showing so many beautiful, proud black Women, was powerful. It's a piece of art. This was art in motion. Personally, I loved every minute, every song and every visual. Beyoncé is truly a gift.
Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made (2018)
That's an hour and a half of my life that I'll never get back
The good news is, I lived to write this review. The bad news is, the demon squirrel was truly horrific.
