Blind Terror (1971)
A puzzle
I enjoy this genre and in particular Mia Farrow who made a few thrillers,(Remember Rosemary;s baby?)
What puzzled me at the end of the movie was that each time we saw the killer inside the house, next minute Paul Nicholas was at the farm with the horses, He couldn't be in tow places at once. That threw me as I thought he couldn't possibly be the killer. Otherwise this movie has a touch of Hitchcock suspense. In all a well done movie with good performances from each member of the cast.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Dire
Looked forward to seeing this and was terribly disappointed. As a remake it is
probably the worst in history of the cinema. Whoever sat down and said "I know, let's remake Murder on the Orient express and gather together a stellar cast of big name stars, it will be a huge hit." They must have been dreaming a nightmare.
Not only have they not read the book, not only have they changed scenes from earlier versions, they have ruined the entire plot and script with bad acting.
I can only say to anyone looking at reviews, take heed because at the end you will be thinking as I did...what a waste of time. I would suggest you put on some gloves and clean out the inside of your oven, that would be more interesting.
Private Eyes (2016)
Not worth wasting time on this
What is it these days with putting a big head and a woman to be an unlikely dynamic duo. What is it these days to put a man who looks like a a tramp unshaven and dirty. Is this what TV series have sunk to? No, not for me thank you. There are many cop shows far better than this even if many of them are donkeys years old, I would still rather watch them.
The Mentalist (2008)
They've ruined a great show
In the first episode of the latest series Patrick Jane is seen unshaven and in a vest and what looks like a skirt. Living sort of rough while he "Finds himself" on an island. OK so far. But as the episodes progress and he's joining the FBI (again sort of) we see him still unshaven and looking unkempt. Now this is well out of character for the suave good looking Patrick Jane, by now he would have showered, shaved and could afford some decent clothes. So why change his image? It's bad enough that the continuity has been bridged by making the team in different supporting roles. The old cliché "If it's not broke, don't mend it" springs to mind. This doesn't work for the reasons above, Patrick would not look lie a tramp, the team would work as one and not as they have been here. I loved the show as it was, but my guess is that this is the end of the road now.
Splice (2009)
Terrific movie
I saw clips on TV and thought this might be worth a watch. I'm glad I did too. Great movie. The characters were good, it was so unpredictable like many other films. It gets you away from kitchen sink dramas and the sci fi genre is taking off once again. This was slightly different from your usual sci fi as it involves experiments by laboratory scientists. Which is plausible. I just hope they make a sequel, I for one will be among the first to see it. Of course, there would have to be new characters, but the plot is there, the scientists have a discovery, the money has been offered and yet to be accepted. In all, it leaves the way open for a follow up which is badly needed. I was glued from start to finish, which for me is unusual, I usually work out the ending half way through the movie....not this time though. A great film, good cast and good plot.
Case 39 (2009)
Best thriller in years
I watched this after reading good reviews. It's not like me to rave about a film, but this was by far the best thriller I've seen in many years. The story line was gripping right from the start. I always believe that the first ten minutes of a movie either grips you or makes you want to turn off. This one just revs up the gears with each passing minute. Rene Zellweger proves in this film that she is such a superb actress, not just in comedy roles but in straight acting too. Jodelle Ferland is equally engaging as the devil incarnate. I particular;y like thrillers and horror movies but find that many these days are so predictable. Not this though, I didn't know what to expect from one minute to the next. A superb cast along with a gripping story makes for one heck of a movie that I recommend to anyone, just don't watch alone and late at night. My guess is that you'll be up half the night.
Sinbad and the Minotaur (2011)
Atrocious waste of money
If they spent more than $100 making this they were robbed. The script is awful, the acting abysmal and the sets hilarious. My advice, don't waste valuable time watching this tripe. I cant honestly think of anything that was worth while watching. It is supposed to be based on the myth of the Minotaur, but the lead actor is so bad at acting. I have to mention the Kiwi accent of the male star that it's hard to take anything seriously right from the start. I'm surprised that SyFy channel even bothered to air this. Even the props were funny, but most of all was the plot. I've never sat through so much trash in all my life.
Bob and Margaret (1993)
Fantastic, brilliant writing.
We tuned in to Bob and Margaret not knowing quite what to expect. This was a breath of fresh air. Some of the situations they have found themselves in has happened to us and doubtless many more couples. This is what endears the couple to the viewer. It all comes from brilliant writing. I can't understand why Bob and Margaret hasn't been snapped up by a major channel and aired in a prime time spot. It would go down a storm and be near to top ratings. Simpicity, pathos and humour is the best tonic I know and top marks to this charming cartoon for bringing a little joy into our lives. Long may it run, I hope that they will make several more series as we become accustomed to their lives.
