Gojira -1.0 (2023)
How did it get an Oscar?
I read so much about this movie since it was not released in my country and was so hyped up about it. I wanted it to be so good and I guess it resulted with being a bit disappointed after watching the movie. Had I not expected that much then it would have been an ok for me to begin with. To summarize I wonder how it recieved an Oscar for the visual effects as it's very bad. It's nowhere near the other Godzilla franchise. Not even close. And the biggest flop is there's not much action in it like yhe other franchise so how in the world did it grabbed an Oscar is a wonder!
The storytelling is quite ok but it's a bit more dramatic but at points its serious. There's no single joke in the movie as I remember. Sometimes scenes transitioning from one to the other feels like watching two different movies at the time as it feels not connected. You can clearly see that the movie is made with a low budget. Godzilla is seen only a few times in the movie and i believe that's how they maintained a low budget but still it's compilation of mediocre action scenes. Nothing serious hence my question as to how this got an Oscar for it's visually effects?
Acting is ok but nothing remarkable. It's generic and typical Japanese soap opera cinematic style can be seen throughout the movie where it tries with a serious opening, moving to melodrama, and showcasing sensitivity at the end to create a heartfelt story but in my opinion it's flawed and didn't quite succeed. And the writing is not that good.
Compares to the other Godzilla franchise this can be rated the lowest compared to it's stories, actions and vfx. Compared to this all other movies in the other modern franchise should get Oscars for its visual effects...
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
Spectacular failure!
It's like Seinfeld. Jerry can't act so the rest of the cast did a massive job to capture his humor and made one of the best shows ever produced. This version of avatar is trying something similar. The acting is bad with the exception of few. Writing is bad. Sole dualogs are just painfu for the original show fans. However it's visually stunning. Action sequences are well crafted. These guys are trying to mask the bad outtakes with the visuals and actions. It's not true to the original anime. I guess thst why the OGs left the production. The original anime is one of a kind and suitable for kids and adults alike. This version maybe ok for first time viewers and kids who don't watch anime. It's a mediocre show. They should have done a proper job with casting and good writing. This Aang cannot act!
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)
Way Ahead of Its Time
Comparing this blockbuster to the recent movies released, this is a masterpiece. The human, action and acting is well crafted. The silliness in some scenes gives its comical feelings and nothing like exactly done in recent years. Chemistry between Angelina and Bradd is seen very well throughout the movie which made the movie a classic. This is way ahead of its time for a release in 2005. Of this was released in 2020s it would have made millions more as moviegoers are more likely to watch similar movies and consider it an action blockbuster without considering its silliness in actions. There are few attempts to create similar stories afterwards but no other films have succeeded crafting its genius again. A view in 2023 - is a fun summer blockbuster where people would happily entertain in a theater!!!
The Crowded Room (2023)
A Disturbing & Slow Revealing Show Which Gets FANTASTIC at the End
This show is a A Disturbing & Slow Revealing Show Which Gets FANTASTIC at the End. Watch till the 4th episode. It's very slow till the 4th episode but you will understand why it's very slow made at the beginning once you watch the show.
Tom's acting is astonishing in this show. The only bad thing about this story is that it actually happened mote or less. Everything else is quite unique in storytelling. Tom's acting will give a innocence to the story and you will wonder what's going on and you might think this is a typical story and not interesting at first.
Once you go on into the middle of the story, then the real story begins. The entire cast is phenomenal and you will feel bad for the people who is suffering like the main character after you watch the show.
Give this show a chance. It's a must see if you are a Tom Holland fan. This guy is going places after thus acting for sure!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
DC is in Good Hands!!!
Recently Gunn told that the new Superman movie must have heart in it. After watching this movie I realized what he meant. This movie talks to your hesr directly and deliver one of the most insane action sequences with a good story. In fact the move had one of the best hallway fights of Marvel I would say send only to Daredevil or in par with that quality. The story is separated from the rest for maybe to give a boost to the next phase. Chris is a good actor and Rocket steals the show. I loved every bit of it. I'm sure the new superman movie will be nothing like we have experienced before. Gunn will deliver! We can have faith in him.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Avatar 2 > Entire MCU
He's right. The motion capture, technology, cinematography, story, action sequences and phasing all great. One of the movies you must watch in your lifetime!! It's beautiful, touching and speak right into your heart...
Cannot wait till the next movie is out. This will for sure break all the records. The Academy should recognize all the efforts put into making this movie. It's good that they took all the time they needed to make it. It gave us the right time to warch this movie with the mind blowing experience.
PS: I'm a MCU and DC fan but now I understand why James Cameron said those things about the MCU...
You got to see it to experience it. Highly recommend.
The Shrink Next Door (2021)
Watch the first 3 episodes and skip to the final episode!
This show does not have that much of a story. If you have watched the entire series, then you have wasted some good time in your life. This story could have been handled with 3 episodes but the drag was not needed. Writing is not that good. Acting is solid in most scenes. You will feel like you are wasting time while watching this.
Peacemaker (2022)
Finally a DC does a DC show for DC Fans!
Arrow, Flash and all other shows are soap operas compared to this show not to mention that this actually happens in the extended DC universe. This is how you do a show. And another thing, not many would understand the fuss about this show because they watch the CW @#$@. This thing is the real thing!!!!!! James Gunn should do more with it.
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (2021)
50% Story + 50% Action
If you expect 90% action then this is not a movie for you. Trailers built the hype but this actually a good story with a bit of action added. It's not the G. I Joe we know and this is kind of a modified take. Some actions goes with supernatural elements and gives you that feeling when you watch F&F movies ;) However this doesn't deserve less than 6 ratings as many of the reviews mentioned. It's a different take, so have an open mind. Storm Shadow is well written and acted well. "Warrior" actor justified the acting for Storm Shadow in this movie. I was rather attached to that character than to Snake Eyes.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)
Sex Didn't Have to be Dominant in this Show! It's THAT GODO!!
Talk bout flawless storytelling and correct phasing throughout the story. This show has it all. Unlike most shows made recently this one does not let the sex in the show dominate its story and its acting. It's not a fairytale either. It feels real in most of the part and Rachel Brosnahan's talent in acting is highlighted and I'm sure that this show will be a breakpoint in her career. What makes this show great is not the stand up comic acts, it's how well it's written as a drama and how well it has integrated its comic acts into it with a great phasing and character developing. A great show!
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021)
More F Words Does NOT Give a Good Story!
This is a movie filled with many jokes and it is funny in most cases but including profanity in almost every sentence does not make it funnier. Including Salma Hayek is not really a good choice. Her acting is mostly yelling and using profanity. Using profanity has made more films funny in the past specially with Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds's way of cracking jokes but this movie is not one of them. Those inclusive use of profanity gives out a cringe feeling to the viewer and most of the time it is out of the line and does not have any use to make the movie funnier. If you are watching this movie for a good story then you are watching a wrong movie. This is a silly story with lots of silly actions and this is a sequel which is less in quality than the original.
War of the Worlds (2005)
A Movie Where Humanity is Defeated Badly!
This is a movie where you would hate to watch as it goes. Once the red layer is put on the earth's soil, you would immediately start hating the movie because not many movies depict that much defeat without giving a reason until the very end. Even at the end you would not feel that much relieved as the end caused by nature itself. Usually in most apocalyptical movies, alien invasion storylines, it's always USA vs Aliens or the World vs Aliens but in this one it's mostly Aliens. I believe that gives an idea about the total ratings this movie has on IMDB. This is well acted movie with few hiccups but with great action sequences which can challenge movies in 2021 very well. Best watch on a bigger screen. Most viewers will get a=really annoyed by the drama in the movie because it shows how vulnerable humans are even with all the power we have. Watch with an open mind. Great movie!
Loki (2021)
A 10 for Marvel MCU Fans. 5 for the Rest!
To understand the significance of this show, one must have to follow all the movies and its shows in the MCU. It's connected to everything. Take WandaVision for an example. It's not that connected to every aspect of the MCU. Same goes to the Falcon and Winter Soldier. So anyone who has not followed everything in the MCU would not understand the significance and would rate this show as maybe a 5 or even less. I rated as 9 only because I feel the story should have been a bit expanded to more episodes.
If you take this show as an independent one, then yes the story is not a great one, it's a good one. There are many shows with great stories similar to ratings of this show or even higher. But in this case Loki gets the ratings for its storytelling first, second for its acting, why? Because it's significant to every other MCU property. The way it's connected should be praised highly. Acting is well done and even smaller characters done it well.
It should have been at least a 10 episode show but I get why Marvel has done it with just 6 is just to get the pathway set for the next Doctor Strange and Ant Man movies and for the continuity of the MCU. It's financially practical for Marvel and for the fans it will be a thrill ride and a new experience in the Phase 4 as we had not experienced TV shows prior to a MCU movie. This is a Mandatory watch for all Marvel MCU fans.
Black Widow (2021)
What a Waste on Taskmaster!
Black Widow is a good action packed movie with more drama in it. Actions is similar in scale that of the Ant Man movies, maybe less than sometimes. However the character Taskmaster is a pretty much wasted and twisted. There are some twists in movies which are interesting for viewers but in this movie Taskmaster doesn't do anything. And the final scene is pretty much nothing compared to other Marvel movies. I wonder what they were thinking when they wrote the script. It's disappointing to watch for any Marvel fan when we know what Taskmaster is capable of. This is a bummer.
The Way Way Back (2013)
Steve Carell Can be a Villain Huh!
It's a very good movie and surprisingly Steve can be really annoying and villainous. Sam Rockwell acts very well and story is really good. Not the usual sentimental crying at the end type of a movie so this will be enjoyable for many.
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013)
A Drama with a bit of Comedic Acts Added to it.
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is a first a drama with a bit of comedic acts added to it. It has few funny moments, not the very best of Steve Carell's but enjoyable. How the movie starts and its slow pace after the beginning might not be the best way for storytelling but after that the movie gets interesting and there are one or two acts which are very funny. I'm sure you would love Alan Arkin's one particular scene.
The rest is actually a drama. Give it a try. I wouldn't care much of the negative reviews.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Don't Believe the Negative Reviews! Give it a Try
There are stupid lines and acting. But the action sequences are very fun to watch. It's not the most complicated story. It's very simple and predictable but this movie is very much fun. And a very good alien design. Not the typical designs you would see in most movies. This one is really good. If the movie has a darker tone, this design would work way better like it did in original Alien movies. Also at one point there's a twist and it was good. I would give solid 7 for this movie. If they fine tuned those loop holes and those stupid lines, then this movie is a solid 9!
Troy (2004)
A Movie to be Preserved for All Generations to Come!
I first watch Troy many years ago and was shocked by the brilliance of it. Recently I watched it again and i realized that this movie was way ahead of its time with its effects and how it has used technology and movie magic. It is still way ahead of most of the modern movies. Storytelling and its pace is astonishing. If this movie to be made with modern day politics and everything else, probably it would have been made as a trilogy. The movie is more than 3 hours long and its first half can be considered a standalone movie. The action, war scenes and choreography is brilliant. This should be preserved for all generations as it is nothing like other for its brilliance.
Eraser (1996)
90s Action Movie with Good Special Effects. + Arnold
In most Arnold's movies he somewhat looks a bit robotic which made him more suitable for his flagship franchise Terminator. However in this movie his acting seems a bit relaxed with more expressions involved and he really acts well in this movie. His actions are similar to Tom Cruise' typical actions which makes this movie is very enjoyable. Very simple story without stupid or corny dialogs. Easy to watch and enjoy.
Looking at the movies releasing in 2022, i see this movie's CGI ahead of its time and looks really cool. Practical effects makes you think that you are watching a modern era movie.
If Arnold is young and make this movie in 2021, I'm sure it would look like a high caliber action packed movie with damn good affects.
Robots (2005)
I Don't Understand the Low Ratings. Robin Williams is Astonishing!
After years I accidently found out about this movie as I was searching animated movies for my nieces. At the time i didn't know that this movie has such a superb cast. I mean Robin Williams!
The movie was an instant shock to me and apparently my nieces had watched it before me (joke is on me :) As i watched it I laughed out loud almost throughout the entire movie. The story is unique and simple. Very entertaining to watch and it has so much laughter. No wonder the (fender) character makes you so much laugh as Robin Williams has voiced it.
This is a must watch movie. No unnecessary drama, no political statements and just pure fun. Pure original old time fun. It made me search about how it made and about the cast of the movie after watching it. Add this to your watchlist if you haven't watched it already.
Voyagers (2021)
Don't be fooled. This is no Sci-Fi
The entire movie can be watched as a speedrun. There isn't much of a story. Very predictable and poorly written. I felt as I wasted time watching this movie. I wouldn't watch this even if this is available in a streaming service like Netflix.
Infinite (2021)
Great Potential Made Into a Bad Fairytale
The concept of the movie is a very interesting idea and has great potential. However it is deeply rushed and poorly written. Dialogues are ot of place in many scenes and feels like amatuer writing. This could have made into two movies easily. Not a very bad movie. Enjoyable for an average viewer.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
A Well Required Topic in COVID-19 Era (10++)
This show is what we really need in this kind of an unprecedented time especially. We all deal with grief and our own struggles and this show shows it greatly. To me this show is not a thriller about directives and murder. To me this show is a family drama and a thriller which deals with real life issues almost realistically with a twist of a murder case being added to it. Kate Winslet is marvelous in this show. Her acting, her dresses and the way she deals with so many people is very realistic. Even though this show deals with grief it also gives out how people would be relieved and move on with their lives with a surprising ending and that ending is what we need to see in a world filled with COVID. These kind of shows are very rare and there should be more and more shows like this which tackles things close to heart to many people. Great show and this is a must watch!
Army of the Dead (2021)
Snyder has FAILED! (had high hopes)
This movie has some good fun actions but its writing and acting is very low for a director like Snyder. I mean he speaks against WB and discrepancies and whatnot implying that his work is really good. If you talk the talk then you should walk the walk right? When you watch this movie, you wonder how Zack went through the entire creative process and calls this creative in interviews! Entire cast is acting like some high school students with cheeky lines. Story is pretty much simple and that's ok. I gave 6 for the actions. However the acting in this movie can be rated only 5 or less. It's bad. It has so much potential and its wasted very well. You definitely will doubt any of what Zack says after watching this movie.
The Office: Broke (2009)
Best episode in the show.
What a writing! Pure brilliance! Speechless! I'm in HR not in USA or in Europe but in Asia. We do HR differently here in Sri Lanka. And i'm learning so much from this show every day. This show has captured so many things in business and in HR even though it doesn't directly show us that off from Toby. Brilliant.
